Anyone have a WII?
My wife purchased a WIi for my Birthday/Christmas gift. I have not owned a game console since the Sega Genesis (Sonic) days of high school.
So far i've been pretty pleased.
System Positves.
Easy to hook up and transport.
Very small.
Wireless remotes and many options on remotes/accessories. (See negatives too).
Balance Board. (SWEET)
WIFI connection (Online gaming) Hook up with friends.
Many channels such as weather and news with WIFI.
Shop Channel. Purchased old school Techmo Bowl for $5 Carrie Purchased Tetris which can also be played with the Balance Board for $12.
Lots of movement games.
Interactive
System Negatives.
Added costs of accessories/remotes.
Graphics are not as good as other systems i've seen at the stores.
Game selection limited.
Games I own.
Mario Kart is awesome. Online racing is awesome. The wheel is a good concept but i'm starting to race more consistent with the nunchuck.
Call of Duty World at War. Awesome game. Kill/Kill/Kill
WII Sports. Came with system. Bowling/Tennis pretty cool. Not a fan of the rest of the games.
WII Play. Purchased to get the 2nd controller. This game sux!
WII Fit. This is a pretty cool game/fitness. You are not going to get daily Cardio needed but the Yoga, Balance, and Muscular are a solid workout.
Shaun White Snowboarding. Using the balance board this game is pretty cool. Without it i'd find this game to be very boring.
Games that i've played.
We Ski is absolutely terrible. The makers of this game should be shot!
NBA Live 09. I absolutely hate NBA basketball these days but this game was fun to play.
Guitar Hero World Tour-Liked the music and this game a lot. Online play option. This is a fun game but wow the Tour Box is expensive at $189.
Tiger 08 & 09. Both very solid and fun to play. I plan to buy 09.
Game Party 2-- TERRIBLE
Scarface-Did not get a chance to play this long enough to give it a good or bad review.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympics--Game was ok. Quite a few events and lots of action with the controls. Would get boring playing for a long time. Possible renter definitely not a buyer.
Games i'd like some opinions on.
Brothers in Arms Double Time
RockBand over Guitar Hero. Im really interested in the AC/DC Version.
Skate It
Tomb Raider UnderWorld
James Bond
We Love Golf--How is the online play?
Top Spin 3
Any of the bowling games any good?
i own godfather blackhand edition: real fun especially how u can just point the controller and spray bullets across the whole screen. different than the regular godfather and the dons edition. more missions and more hand to hand moves than the regular edition.
i also have scarface: theres not as good graphics as the other systems, but much funner. point and shoot, no 2 button aiming/shooting.
manhunt 2: this is a game i thought wouldnt be realesed by nintendo, but they were the only ones that didnt blacklist it at 1st for its gruesome ways of executing people. i mean cuttin someones face in half with a skill saw or sufficateing someone in a walmart bag wow. this is a great game if u like to take the city back from brutal gangs by finding ways to execute people. theres nothin like it.
mariokart: one of the funnest games out there. my friends from sterling and i played this till 1am each night of the weekend of the illinois open 2008. addicting, but fun. the only game my wife plays.
i have skate it. it's a decent game but being not a big video game player as well, i trader my xbox for a computer when my hard drive crashed because it just collected dust, i am struggling with it. i can do tricks but my steering is terrible and i used to skate. however, i just got the wii fit board for christmas so i am still getting used to it. the game itself is the standard skateboarding game, play one player to develop and become a pro skater. it breaks the the wii fit board into six sections for hitting tricks and manuals. it also gives you the option to play with the controller and nunchuk as well as just a controller. so if i give up on the board i can play sitting on my couch. the multiplayer is cool for competing too. there is things such as best score and best tricks competitions and the wii fit board recalibrate for each person so if one skate goofy foot and another skates normal it no problem.
i've only put a hour into it so far though. we have been addicted to rayman raving rabbids tv party which is addictive, funny, cheesy, and honestly dorky but we love it and i get to play viedo games with the misses so i can't complain. i also have star wars unleashed from the library which is pretty cool and has to go back on the 11th so i have been putting whatever little free time at home into that as well before it goes back.
I got Boom Blox for Christmas. The basic concept is that you are either knocking down jenga-ish towers with as few baseballs as possible or pulling out blocks surgically with what is essentially one of those sticky hands. The single player sequence is essentially lots of puzzles, coupled with some steady hand/eye coordination. The multiple player options are a lot of fun with a couple of different ways to play against each other. You can probably find videos on youtube to get a better idea of what this poorly written review is describing. I've definitely been enjoying it.
Raving Rabbids TV Party. That game is a trip. It has provided me hours of entertainment already.
My console number is:
6828 0449 6769 7407
Let me know when you want to race!
In general I like Rock Band over Guitar Hero as a game. From general songs I think you'd like Rock Band better, Brett. I can't speak to the Wii version specifically but generally GH has better hardware and RB has the better game and songs. On the PS3 I wish I could play RB2 with the GHWT drums. If I had more money I'd own a Wii just for the Mario Cart game.
yeah for christmas i got beach sports for the wii which has disc golf on it! for some reason it is on the beach so you cant get anyskips the disc just diggs right in. you also can't like throw anhyzers or anythng like that. but what do you expect its a video game haha
I just talked to a guy who is renting James Bond. He said its pretty good and the 1 player mode is pretty challenging.
My Mario Kart # is 1161-3518-4972
Current Rating: 6685
one of the 1st games for the wii was super monkey balls, which has a bunch of games on it and one of them is disc golf. i havnt personally played it but ive seen it played looked fun.
and once u beat all of the 50cc, 100cc, 150cc on mario kart u unlock the special cc in which all the tracks are reversed.
I saw Big Beach Sports has disc golf but have not played it.
I have gold in every cup (50cc, 100cc, 150cc, & mirror).I have opened up most vehicles and characters. When I played last night a character and vehicle opened from online racing. I think I need to spend some time at the time trials to open a character.
My Mario Kart # is 1161-3518-4972
Current Rating: Just over 8700
I find online Mario Kart very similar to disc golf. Once I added the 2 star to my profile and when I got up over 8000 very few people will continue to race after 1 race. It's hard to get into the 10-12 player games. They just drop like flies. It's very similar to the pro division. :'(
My quest has been to get rated over 9000. When your rating goes up and if you finish outside of 1-3 depending on the # of players it drops drastically. For example I was racing last night and finished 5th of 12 and lost 147 points. It figures one of the few 12 player games I was able to get in. I've also had a few games where my internet connection has failed. What a pisser that is. 200 point kabosh! :MEGA1:
I have a Brand New In Box Wii Fit if anyone is interested in purchasing. $100. They are going around $110 to $120 on Ebay.
I think I sent you a PM; if not, let me know if it's still available. I'm interested.

The Disc Golf game on Tiger 10 looks pretty good.

That disc golf game looks really good. I NEEEEED a Wii.
I told myself I would never buy a WII but just might have to get one now. Looks like a really cool game and should be great exposure to our great sport.

This looks really awesome. Its too bad they put the baskets on the greens. maybe that will change. Just read this article about it, http://www.ea.com/news/tiger-woods-10-wii-tournament-mode. You will need an addon for your remote called the Wii MotionPlus, http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/eMMuRj_N6vntHPDycCJAKWhEO9zBvyPH, to play this game. I did find this bundle at GameStop, http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?sku=230592&WT.mc_id=tw20. I will be preordering mine this afternoon.

I think it is appropriate to put the baskets on the green. Golf courses are designed with the green as the placement for the target. Disc golf courses that share ball golf courses do not put the basket on the green because the discs can cause more damage than balls. However in a video game this opportunity to play the course as designed is opened up.
let's just hope that this is the first successful version of many and then maybe one day its own release. Right now it looks like you get your choice of 3 discs, that's it, and the driver and mid-range looked to be semi-overstable. The bounce of the disc at the end of flight looked more like a ball bouncing/thumber disc landing than what a disc that is hyzering would do - on short grass you'd expect more of a skip than a bounce landing. It would be nice to have long distance under straight and overstable, fairway drivers of the same, mid's, and a couple putters. I do like that the sand traps are OB.
In time maybe they'll start to recreate actual disc golf courses (eg. starting with Winthrop Gold), so that way it would have a lot more disc golf related obstacles (aka. trees).
Based on the motion it didn't really look like they were offering an overhand shot (other than just holding your arm that high), and I don't know what plans they might have for sidearm or roller shots. Based on the remote just going off your motions, you might be able to pull off a sidearm, but again, this is just version 1 of hopefully many!
I saw the preview video last weekend. Tiger 10 and the wii motionplus may just have to get on my christmas list...
Is the motion plus a hardware add-on or a different controller or what?
pretty sure it pops into the bottom of the controller, where the nunchuck would usually go.

Yes from what I have read that is how it works. It looks about 1inch long and the same width as the controller.

Thanks!
It looks like the Wii MotionPlus is retailing for $19.99. That's not too bad; I paid $10 more for a docking/recharging station for the controllers. It looks like both the MotionPlus and Tiger Woods PGA 10 are set to release in June. I wonder how hard it will be to get a MotionPlus. It would kill me to buy the game & not be able to play it. It sounds like the MotionPlus is required to play it. Is that what you read, too?

I suggest going to GameStop and putting $5 down on a pre-order of the bundled game and MotionPlus.

Thanks for the tip. I reserved my bundle today. $60 for the bundle; a $10 savings.

Games i'd like some opinions on.
Tomb Raider UnderWorld
I solved the very first Tomb Raider for the PS1. Tomb Raider underworld has the same spirit, and the puzzles are a little more intuitive. I think there were some puzzles on the first one that were not as intuitive and hard to find. I can lose interest if I spend too much time farting around in the same puzzle.
I'm on level 4 or 5 right now on Underworld and I'm happy with the game play and the puzzles. It may be a little on the "easy to solve" side, but I'm happy & still interested.
Got Tiger 10 with the MotionPlus yesterday. The golf portion is sweet, very hard for me so far but i'm just getting used to it.
As far as the disc golf game goes, it has a cool feel to it like your really throwing a disc. However, its super easy. My 2nd round I shot -14. If I played again I think I could get a -18. I probably won't play the disc golf much anymore because I bought Tiger 10 for the actual golf game, but I could see little kids enjoying it more than the ball golf portion.
Bottom line, don't buy Tiger 10 for the disc golf side game unless you enjoy just throwing your money away. Play it once or twice at a friends house and that will be enough for you. It would have been nice if they could have made it harder, but its unbelievable exposure for the game of disc golf, so I'd say its nothing but positive for our sport! They have a little intro calling it one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

Yea I would have bought the game for the actual golf too if I had a Wii, right now I just play my mario golf on the gamecube, lol. Anyways, I don't know if anyone else knows about this other disc golf game for the Wii. It looks harder than the one on Tiger 10. It comes with the game Big Beach Sports and is one of the many games on the disc. The disc golf course itself is placed on a beach with much more obstacles than you would get on a golf course. Click the link below to see a youtube video on the game. The picture is not the greatest, but it does a decent job showing you the actual gameplay. I don't own a Wii so if anyone has this game or gets it let me know how the gameplay is. Just another game advertising disc golf to the world. ;D

My daughter bought me new Wii game because it had disc golf on it. I haven't played it yet. The thing is I'd rather go out and hit an actual course. It's kind of like they bought me the Wii Game that has cornhole (bags) on it. It just isn't the same thing, and if when I play, the physics just aren't right. It was obviously made by someone that hadn't really played before.

I have that game. In terms of being real, TW10 is much better with the motionplus, but big beach disc golf has more options. You can actually throw side arm and there are more obstacles. however, it's extremely easy like disc golf on tw10. i played that game the first weekend and i got it and now it only comes out when i have people over.
I got tw10 for the actual game too and was well worth it. it is really fun to play and the swing is pretty good at being realistic. the career mode is pretty solid with different features to keep you interested instead of just playing tournament after tournament (challenge mode, match play tourneys, etc.)
The only thing missing from this round was an ace. PERFECT 18.

WOW. I wish I could play a real disc golf round that fast and that good if I wanted to.
Now that we are done, done, done with our apartment, I've had a chance to play a couple of rounds of disc golf on both TW10 and Big Beach Sports. I'd say that both are fun but not exactly disc golf simulations. I think TW10 looks better and is a "little" harder but the physics of flight are better in Big Beach. I would say that they are both tied for the best disc golf video games that I've played...but there's lots of room for improvement. One thing that I can say is that for someone who has not been able to play disc golf for over three years it was a lot of fun to throw a disc...even if it was virtual.
Brett, I bought Mario Cart for the Wii also...ready for you to school me! ;D
I think that TW10 with the Motion Plus is a great game for the regular golf portion. The Motion Plus does a great job of picking up the rotation motion of your wrist, and makes the ball golf pretty challenging. The disc golf portion is really easy and not that challenging. I may break it out at parties for fun, just like Wii sports. There's also no tournament or career options with the disc golf portion, like there is with the ball golf.

Currently the PDGA are in cohoots with a programming coompany that is making a disc golf game. The game has been under development for some time and was going to be released last year until the motion plus was announced. so in order to make sure they could produce the best product they have reprogrammed it to be capatable with the motion plus. The game will recreate some of the best/well known course in the world. it will be called PDGA presents Disc Golf. From what I understand you will be able to throw multiple ways and with a number of different disc molds and models. I believe that they are looking for a release date closer to the end of fall when a lot of disc golfers start going indoors.
