IOS #2 @ Crystal Lake, IL--6/6 & 6/7 2009
I sent in the sanctioning request and the money for this one today.
Cool now the IOS is rolling i hope that brett or bruce finds a location for the IOS 3
Is this going to be at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake?
you are correct - 18 holes plus a decent number of awesome temp holes made by brett I'm sure :)
Brett will probably post course routing information shortly after the Chicago Am Champs are done.
EARLY PRE-REG DEAL
Here's a deal: Until I notice that Discontinuum has IOS # 2 in the store, and that might be tomorrow for all I know, I'll take pre-reg by paypal. $35 gets you a $30 amateur entry AND the two dog lunch. $55 gets you a $50 pro entry and the 2 dog lunch. [2 dogs, 2 buns, chips, a beverage, condiments, and she won't run out of relish this time.] E-mail address for my paypal is rollerdoos@aol.com. Include name, pdga #, division and day in the comments box.
When i notice that IOS #2 is in the store, this post and this offer will magically disappear.

Any chance you have any early bird deals for juniors (<16)?
Early bird junior and 2 dog lunch for $24. Make sure to include your name, pdga #, division and day you are playing. Although the day playing may seem redundant, it confirms for me that the player is not confused about that detail.
We already have players pre-reging for IOS 2. We might not show pre-reg on PDGA.com for a few days because Brett has the Chicago Amateur Championship this weekend. We have six players in that I know of. For the benefit of players who are new to the IOS, Crystal Lake usually fills and sometimes we add a hole or a floater group and are overfull and then we turn people away. I can already tell you what the weather will be:
High of 81 with an afternoon thunderstorm.
That's been pretty close, year after year.
This is the cryztal ball art concept. Does it work?
That looks cool to me and it passes the Michler test...it has a basket on it! ;)
Kelsey was helping me with some Photoshop techniques on this one. Because I'm a tactile learner, I was having her talk me through the things I don't understand very well, like layers, opacity and how to make white turn into clear. And she kept saying stuff like Jon just said. She said what Jon said almost word for word, and "I cannot believe you are going to kowtow to the masses by putting a disc golf basket in a hotstamp." And, "I like the other idea more, but it can't compete with a picture of a disc golf basket."
the crystal ball looks nice. i would buy at least 2discs with that stamp on it.
Yes, the design looks pretty nice and I will likely get some kind of disc with the design. However, I liked it when you had the lame PT Cruiser design. That way you were stuck with lots of them at the end of the year and I now have a practice basket filled with PT Cruiser Aviars that I got el cheapo. ;D
prereg is online @ the club store (http://store.discontinuum.org)
Sorry for the delays. I had planned on getting it online last week but ended up working a 60 hour week instead on top of the usual mothers day and related stuff.
Anyhow, go & prereg!
I'll be getting my payment through soon...
Go Hawks!
>:D
lol, i noticed on the pdga page that kiralyn brakel has the wrong pdga number, and i dont think she lives in the state PA or is male.
This course has kiked my butt 3 times, twice in tournament rounds and once in casual play. I must say I am intimidated to play there again, but I will probably be doing it anyway. Won't be signing up until I have the money to do so though.
The course is in good shape with two exceptions. The area around 5's basket is very muddy and needs to dry out. I wore boots and was fine. The "fairway" on 14 once you clear the woods is a bog that is shin deep and will not dry out for a while. I did not go right on 11 but have to assume that area is wet too. There are fly pads on all 18 holes and the surrounding limestone is in good condition. There has been some, but not drastic, clearing in the woods. The wooded areas were dry.

Hole 5 will probably dry out. There are areas on holes 11 and 14 that are usually swampy until we have an extended dry period. We will cover casual water rules during the player's meetings as needed.
Discontinuum will have a couple of club member only CTPs at this event. Thank you for your support of the club.
Will anyone be at Crystal Lake tomorrow to take pre-regs? Or even any course to take pre-regs tomorrow?
I will be at Holly Woods tomorrow afternoon, but I suppose that is not helpful information. Brett will be at Grand Woods, which is just more unhelpful information. ;D

lol you crack me up Bruce
Hey, I looked at site for pre reg for juniors and said juniors dont have to pay $10.50 for non PDGA. It still charges it when u go to the next page. Also, I assume trophy only is because low attendance?
Maybe Mirth can fix the programming on that.
We do juniors trophy-only more as a values based thing than a tournament economics thing. When you want to play for prizes, the ratings based divisions are there for you. But, for $20, the player pack, pdga fees, trophy costs, and ctp add up to entry fee.
Ok thanks. ;) What would be the best one for me to enter if I wanted to play for prizes? Probably should play junior though.
Uploading has begun.
This event has had 179 and 186 players the past 2 years. If you play on Sunday you better start to think about registering. There has been 113 and 114 players on Sunday.

(and Bryan Beyersdorf has a fat fingered PDGA #)
Yeah. She's outside the two weeks even if she was pre-registered. Diana will play Am 4 and Kira Am 3.
When someone gets a chance can my PDGA number be fixed on Sunday 6/7. 36425. Saturday is correct. Thanks ;D
Going to ask this again. Will anyone be taking pre-regs at bevier this Friday? Or Crystal lake this Saturday?
Looks like Brett will be taking pre-reg in Milwaukee...
I will do my best to be out at Crystal Lake the Friday afternoon and evening before the tournament.
I turned in my order today for both Innova and Discraft. If you go back to page 1 of this thread, you can see the artwork. I'll be getting custom Star and Champion Bosses, T-Birds, Orcs, and Sidewinders, and R-Pro Aviars and Darts. If you have not seen the R-Pro yet, it is really flexy stuff. On the Discraft side the tournament stamp will be on Soft Magnets, Z Surge SSs, Z Comets, ESP Zones, and ESP Meteors.
My name isn't up for saturday intermediate. I registered in that early bird special time period.

1. Make check out to DISContinuum Disc Golf Club
Send to
Brett Comincioli
1018 Lotus Dr
Round Lake Beach, IL 60073
Checks must be received the Thursday prior to the event.
2. You may also preregister online at -> http://store.discontinuum.org
3. You can pay Brett Comincioli prior to the event. He is usually at the course the Friday before each event. He drives a blue Honda Element. You can pay at local leagues or any other time you see Brett on the course. Bruce is usually at the course the Friday before each event as well. Look for the silver van with camper.
4. If you are a Sunday player you can stop by during the event and pay on Saturday.

If anyone wants to stop by Biagi's in Bloomington Saturday night i'll take regsistrations during my mother-in-laws retirement party. I'll probably be at Pekin, Morton, or Eureka during the day. My mom would more than likely accept any registrations in Gridley.

I'm going to work on IOS 2 trophy discs tonight. I'm going to experiment with some R Pro plastic. A dye test showed that the R-Pro will take blue dye as a medium to light blue, but good enough to work for trophy purposes. If you get a trophy disc with a splotch of blue dye inside the rim, that was the dye test disc.
The custom stamps look really nice on the Innova. You can look up thread for the artwork.
We will be doing the two-dog lunch deal again. $3 gets you two big dogs, one chips and one beverage. The dogs are not kosher and they are very big. Officially they are smoked sausages, but they taste like dogs.
Is there a tournament schedule posted somewhere? I'm mostly wondering when and where the player's meeting is. Any info would be appreciated.
Info is here: http://discontinuum.org/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=26&topic=4390.0
Checkin between 7:45am and 8:45am. Player meeting at 9:15. Tournament Central will be near hole 1 at Lippold.

I'm working on the trophy discs. I'm using nice computer set and machine cut lettering. The white R-Pro plastic takes blue dye in a light sky blue kind of color and I have to be really careful warming the dye so as to not warp the disc. So most of the R-Pro trophies look good enough. Usually plastic that is somewhat dye resistant holds the dye in place, so I'm hoping the lettering doesn't get blurry over time as fast as other plastics.
I saw the Rockford guys in the pre-reg, so I'll add an Am Master trophy.
;D O0 ;D hay guys we played dubs in the monsoon 2night and the course still played great! holes 5 and 14 are playable, 5 is dry enough and 14 has just enough water 2 make it the best hole on the course. wondern' if theres any thing you want help with before this weekend. are we going 2 use all the actual tees this time around and witch alternates cause there doin construction on the front of the park.
Brad, i'll bring your CTP cash from week 1 of spring league this Sunday.

I think they are planning on updating tonight. Our pre-reg people are also players, and they were in Peoria this weekend.
Thanks Tom
I'm mailing my prereg to Brett today. Sorry for being so late becasue i saw the check has to be there by Thursday! :o I am signing up for Juniors U16. Hope the check get there on time. :)
You're going to be too late for me to get a trophy done, but you'll get a trophy substitute, a tournament stamped disc, unless you lose to some other junior < 16. If you are about the same skill level as the junior under 19, beat him and get that trophy.

Fred,
There is nothing that I can think of right now that needs to be done. The long tee will be used on #4 and the tee to #18 will be moved to the area used in the past. The rest of the rubber tee pads will be played. I will be out marking alternates on Friday. See you this weekend.

Regarding the juniors question - The store isn't intelligent enough to know that if somebody picks Juniors and they're not a PDGA member to not charge the PDGA nonmember fee......
Basically, pick your division and if you're a junior regardless if you're a PDGA member or not you say yes (and then make a note that you're not a PDGA member) and go on your merry way not having paid the fee.
Sent in my registration today and signed up for junior U16. Should get to Brett's house tomorrow at latest.
:hippy2: :toothy9: :hippy2: good to hear Brett thx
Patrick Boone 36021 Yes 918 Arlington Heights IL USA <----------- Needs to be moved to Intermediate
Actually, i think they have the wrong PDGA number for Patrick Boone.
The PDGA shows "36921 Am Patrick Boone IL USA" in the member search and they have him at 877.
So he needs to move to Intermediate or move over to Rec on Sunday.
Yes, Patrick Boone is 36921 - and the one that is currently entered as a typo is actually Daniel Pantalone (you would think the PDGA logic would be smart enough to confirm the names - or at least the last name!) So I'm presuming he'll be moved to MA2 by the end of the night (or MA3 Sunday like Bruce said)
my pdga number is incorrect also im 31297 not 31927 lol and i dont live in modesto CA(unless there is a prize for farthest travel to the tournament). ;D
What are the different ways that juniors playing in the tournament can earn funny money?
We might start our trip tonight if we get it all together.

I have 10 FLX Drones. You can take one for your player pack or they are $15. They will all go on Saturday.
I have 10 of the latest run of 150 Esp Avengers. These are overstable. Good headwind driver for the 150 thrower.
The other new stuff i mentioned up thread from here.

If there is anyway you can set aside an FLX Drone for me I would also love to have one for my player pack.
This is my last checking in before leaving. I'll set aside two FLX Drones for you guys.
I'm slowly recovering from a pulled ribcage muscle (or something); that, some family commitments (HS graduation!?) and a general lack of 'tournament focus' will keep me away this weekend. Good luck to all (hope it doesn't rain much this weekend!)

How big of a selection of Bruce's discs are usually left by the time Sunday rolls around with everyone playing and buying them I assume on Saturday. What discs usually always go first and such?
For example,
If I was looking for a popular disc like a Buzzz, Teebird, or Valkyrie would there be much of a selection left?
he'll have a good selection on Sunday, no worries :) He may even still have FLX Drones Sunday morning, but just talk to him early on and find out. I'd say he carries 800-1000 discs? more? less? It's good stuff :)

Juniors get funny money for a players pack. There is also at least one CTP for the juniors-all CTP's are based on the number of players in the division.
Juniors can also play in ratings based divisions and play for prizes. Of course that costs more than the Junior divison.

I was hoping to get this done tonight but had to come up with some emergency lesson plans for summer school. Nothing like planning PE class without having the use of a gym. I hate the rain. : >:(
The winner will be announced sometime tomorrow night.
Please let me know if I missed you. I looked over the list but i'm a little tired. I'm not sure if someone purchased a new membership on Sunday or not.

This is the correct list. I had all the players highlighted on my main sheet but I must have been sleeping thru the transfer process. I added J. Brakel and A. Gutierrez. They would have played if they could and put in 2 full days of work.
Thank you Brett for including Jon and Adrian. I wanted to suggest that, but I didn't want to be lobbying for changing the rules after the game was announced.
Responding to Duain, the Bruces won the Old Guys' divisions, Pacey in Am Master and Brakel in Am Grand.
A variety of juniors won in junior divisions.
The delay on posting scores is mostly my fault. I played on Sunday instead of Saturday, and that had a domino effect on getting things done at tournament central on Sunday. Sorry. I didn't realize at the time that all that would happen, but I'll take the blame, because i should have known.
I just want the Am Grands to know that I won't be playing Am Grand at Sinissippi or Fairfield. It was an IOS one-time thing. I really wanted to play the course without distractions, and the Am Grand field seemed like the best place to do that. Polite old guys just having fun and all. If I play Sinissippi, it won't be Am Grand.
I was surprised that you didn't play MPG on Sunday since no one played it Saturday.
Hey, Im not trying to hurry anyone or anything but when do you think the second round scores for sunday gonna be posted.
Thanks
Mike, I was surprised too. Maybe Bruce wanted to beat more than just Bruce to win? Maybe Bruce saw the look of steely determination in Bruce's eyes and realized he needed to play in a different division from Bruce? I don't know half of it.
Grayson, hopefully tonight. We all have day jobs.

The funny thing is I cut the names out and forgot to pull my name. My wife Carrie pulled the first one and started laughing. It was my name. We have enough disc golf stuff in the garage ;D .
Woohoo!
What the hell.
Sunday scores are up!
http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9165&year=2009&include_ratings=1#Masters
Bruce's playing really had nothing to do with scores not being up. Brett and I worked very efficiently. Not having power at tournament central is really what makes the difference. With power I can put in the scores as they come in. I need to get a new battery for my laptop. The current one does not hold a charge for much more than 15 minutes.
Thanks for fixing me in the juniors ;D
i think the drawing is rigged
Given the number of Discontinuum members who helped this weekend [Jon, Becky, Maddisen, Bruce, Diana, Kelsey, Kira, Brett, Tom, Mike, Stan, Adrian, plus anyone else who helped set up the temp course] it is not too surprising that an IOS helper person was the winner. I don't think Brett would ever rig that kind of drawing, but if it was rigged, it was rigged right! ;D
Brett has some weird luck with raffles. On that raffle that he sells tickets for Carmel High School sometimes, one year he sold all his tickets but one, so he and another guy split the last ticket. I was the last person he needed to deliver a ticket to. When he saw me he said, "Oh, I forgot your ticket at home. Hey, I've got my ticket in my wallet. I'll give you my ticket and then take yours for myself." I'm like, whatever. It's random. A few weeks later they have the drawing. The ticket Brett forgot at home that he swapped for the ticket in his wallet was a winner!
I, on the other hand, have luck with auctions. So it evens out. I saw this van on an on-line auction. The picture of the van did not quite match the description so I ran the VIN on the internet. The vin was for a van worth $3000 more than the van being described. It sold low based on the faulty description. To me!

Chris,
I hope you are joking. I hope that everyone knows that I was joking. If you weren't joking who should have won if it wasn't rigged?
This was a Discontinuum giveaway not an IOS giveaway.
Thanks to everyone who supports Discontinuum!
Chris is just salty that he did not win the basket... Should have played both days to get his mane in twice.

There is his problem. Chris really doesn't have much of a mane. O0

Maddisen Brakel probably is a member, but I wouldn't really know.
As to Kira, we bought a family membership and got four tags, so she should be a member.
Maddisen is a member-we did a family membership and got 3 tags.
TD reports for IOS #2 are in. Those are my 54th and 55th TD reports by the way...and boy are my fingers tired! ;D
