IOS #3 @Mokena, IL
DISContinuum Presents the ILLINOIS OPEN at the OAKS
8/15 & 8/16 2009
cant wait i think everyone missed a mokena tourney last year.
for sure i cant wait to win it this year one of my favorite courses around.
cant wait. never played here before. i just got released from physical therapy and the surgeon to play again after a 2month break from knee surgery, so im ready to get out and throw.
Thank you guys for coming down south and running a tournament on a course that I know so well. With two kids I don't know how many tournaments I'll make, but I will definitely make this one.

Bummer. Vibram Open. Maple Hill. Sounds like a miserable weekend.
It is probably premature to announce Mokena. It might not be a bad idea to hide this thread for a couple of days until we have official and final approval. Mokena has a multi-step approval process and we are near the end of the process. We're doing what we can to make this happen and think it will happen. We hope the players will support the tournament if it is approved, which seems likely to happen soon.
Unfortunately, it was premature to announce Mokena. My contact there really thought we could make it happen but the Board of Directors was stuck on a $1,000 [yes, three zeros] minimum course use fee for a weekend tournament. I don't know if that is their way of saying, "We really don't want tournaments" or "We really think you are as smart as a pile of bricks," but obviously that is a deal breaker. We tried to get them to go for $5 a player, and then we could see if our player base thought Mokena was worth $5, but they were insistant on a guaranteed minimum of $1,000 or $5 a player, which ever turned out to be more.
That is probably why there are no tournaments at Mokena. I cannot imagine any TD we know agreeing to a $1,000 course use fee.
Man, sure seems to be a lot of dumbasses in parks departments in the area as of late. That's a nicer way to put it at least.
The IOS is batting .500 right now on locations. Ouch.
Any chance that we can get back to Parkside or Rockford for August?
I believe the Prairie Open at Parkside is typically in August. And the GRABM Classic (Rockford) is also slated for August.
Wow that really does stink. I was going to fly home that weekend to play the tourney if it was going to happen. Looks like it will be Snow Mountain then.
Does Smokena realize this is the PDGA and not the PGA? Better call Nike for some big time sponsorship.
Side Thought-
What about telling them you where going to be doing a fundraiser? Say for a child with leukemia. The park district couldn't possibly want to take a slice of that pie. Then to keep Karma good donate a small percentage to the child with leukemia. We are doing something like that in Colorado. Not a sanctioned tourney but still a fundraiser for a 2 year old child with leukemia. It doesn't even cost a quarter of what smokena wants to rent out the park.

highland or aurora
Flip City! ;D
Road Trip!
One crazy idea would be to work with some place like the Naperville Park District and put a temp course in the back woods at Knoch Knolls (where the mountain bike trails run). That would be wicked fun.
Brett has a couple of other ideas.
It is unfortunate about Mokena. Eventually they will forget why they don't want tournaments and someone will get in there for $2 a player! ;D
I second flip city! I think they have a tourney this weekend. Better board the plane. Gotta go throw!

I'd Third, Flip City or even like to see Oshtemo park in Kalamazoo
Lets see, if i brought all my family, and Jon brings his, and there's Matt from Colorado,
Jon, do we really need more than seven players for an IOS?
If I wasn't going to Paris during that time, you could count me in for Flip City with minimal notice!
I keep getting asked to run a tournament at Lockport or New Lenox. I have not played these courses, although I've heard mixed reviews for both. Since Mokena was south, are either of those 2 a decent representative?
Lockport is a nice course.. private though
lockport is a good place to have it the guy that takes care of it will let you have a tourny if you ask him. hes a good guy not sure of his name he works at the care center in front of the course.
Streamwood !!!!!!

Thor Batchelor is his name. Gary Lewis knows him well. Lockport is a nice course with some challenging anhyzers and a good mix of woods and long open holes. Steve O did some nice work on that course.
patriots park is a great course
