I wanted to start a separate thread for Fox Valley's Ice Bowl at Jericho Lake since the other thread is talking about Ice Bowls in general and not always about this specific Ice Bowl.
While it's non-sanctioned, there is plenty of bang for your buck at this event. This event is designed as a fundraiser for Hesed House in Aurora.
Entry fee is 2 canned goods plus: Pro's $40, Am's $30, Juniors $15
Every AM/Junior player will receive a $15 Reward Dollars player pack redeemable for any of the merchandise available for sale from Paper or Plastic Sports.com. There will be 2009 Ice Bowl merchandise at this tournament. Special to this tournament: 2009 Ice Bowl Stamped KC Pro Aviar's. We'll also have a bunch of other discs and apparel all featuring the Ice Bowl stamps and logos.
$10 from every Pro entry fees will go to Hesed House. The remainder will be added into the cash Pro Payout.
$10 from every AM entry fee will go to Hesed House. There will be reward dollar payouts based on the PDGA payscales to all AM divisions.
1st round is singles, 2nd round is seeded doubles. Mulligans will be for sale - all money from these go to Hesed House.

Scott, can you explain this seeded doubles setup that is going to happen second round? Are the scores a total on the day or just from the first round?
Your scores are based on the total of the 2 rounds. Payouts are the same as if it would be singles for the entire day.
The way the seeded doubles work is that for round 2, whoever was best in round 1 will be matched with the worst score from that division in round 2. 2nd highest with 2nd lowest, 3rd highest with 3rd lowest, etc until people at the middle are matched up. If there is an odd number of players in a division, the person in the exact middle will get to play cali for the 2nd round (essentially 1 free mulligan per hole). The score in the first round is very important as you want to finish in the top half to have a chance at winning - if you're paired with someone that shot better with you in the first round you won't be able to win (because you and your partner are guaranteed to score the same score for round 2). It helps give the day a more enjoyable feel with a mix of singles and doubles, and you're supporting a great cause as well.
Does anyone know if there are going to be any gateway discs here?
I will be the vendor at the tournament, and yes, I do carry Gateway Discs. Send me a PM with what you are looking for and I'll see if I have it or will be able to get it before the tournament. I do have some SuperSoft Wizards and Stupid Soft Voodoo's on order to come with the Ice Bowl stamp on it.
40 free ctps, 24 items in the raffle (1 ticket gets you in all 24 individual raffles. You can buy as many tickets as you want), putting contest, free lunch, and a lot of stuff in the players packs.
5 more items added to the sponsors list since the last post.

Looks like only 4 or 5 holes will have ice ponds in play. I was out there today and it looks pretty good compared to a week ago. #2 tee box is actually clear now. The weather looks like cold in the forecast and some precipitation which means it will be a true Ice Bowl! We will try to keep the tees in excellent shape. They are all clear right now.

Just to clarify, you still have a chance at cashing if you finish in the lower half after the first round. Your post wasn't confusing, Scott, I just wanted to clarify since I spent the better part of an hour puzzling that out. Yes, I'm a dummy... ???
Yes you will still have a chance to cash you just will not be #1. If you and your partner go -20 for 19 holes your partner who finished in the top half will still beat you in overall scores.

"Cashing" means merchandise payout for AM divisions, cash dollars for Open/Pro Divisions. The top 45% of each division will receive some sort of payout.
Almost all of the divisions will have $10 donated from their entry fee to the charity for this event: Hesed House in Aurora.
All AM division players will receive a $15 reward dollars voucher redeemable for most merch.
do the lights work in the pavilion???? if we don't know it might be a good idea to bring some lights just in case.
Given that this event is primarily for charity, is there some mechanism whereby an entrant can waive his player pack and have that $15 go instead to the charity? Or perhaps only $12 since the purchasing power of the rewards voucher is not equivalent to its cash face value?

This would be up to the TD if he wants to do that. The vouchers are less valuable than you think - the $15 player pack is valued out to $9 (60%). But it's not up to me, it's up to Larry.

by all means if you want to donate your player pack to charity just mention it to the people at the registration desk.
Excellent! I assume that holds for AM payouts as well?
Others may want to avail themselves of this opportunity. Maybe you can have the registrars mention the option to players as they register. An announcement at the players meeting might be good as well. In addition, a well marked "players pack/payout" donation box would facilitate both the process and the final accounting. I would be happy to provide such a box, if you like. Obviously, pro cash payouts could be donated as well.

The disc golf world came through with flying colors last year!
There were over 255 Ice Bowls world wide, which raised over $250,000 and over 25,000 tons of food!
It would be great to surpass that total this year.
Special thanks goes out to all the sponsors, every disc golfer, and everyone involved in this wonderful annual event!
I would like to thank all of the many people that made this event a success!
All the volunteers, players, and especially the sponsors.
I would like to put a special thank you out to two people. The first to Scott Pitner for running a wonderful merch booth and having so much great ice bowl merch to purchase. Secondly I would like to thank Randy Moore Sr. for helping to get so many great sponsors for this event.
I hope that everyone that went had a blast and look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
do to the heavy snow falling mixed with the strong winds when i was trying to leave at 7am, i had to turn around and come back i couldnt see 20ft in front of me when i was driving from the blowing snow.( i didnt even make it to dekalb and its only 10 miles to the east of me). so i happily donate my prereg cash and player pack to the good cause. peace duain
It's just amazing when you can get 50 plus people to drive through snow storms and play Disc Golf in such extreme conditions. It goes to show how wonderful and caring the Disc Golf World really is. Thank you goes out to everyone who participated in the 3rd Annual Jericho Lake Ice Bowl. The Ice Bowl was a huge success and it will contribute a tremendous amount of help to a tremendous amount of people. Be proud.

I'll save you a copy of the paper for the next time I see you Tom.
