Any thoughts yet on the layout?
Think you'll be using some of the alternate's that have been used in the past?

I really like the longer one that you play along Yorkhouse throwing east to west, then over the parking lot entrance to the corner by basket #1. That's a fun one even though I bogey it every time.

I will get the course routing information together on the course page a month or so prior to the event.
I don't know what the weather will be like to cement/rubber tee pads will be used both rounds.

Temp Holes 3-4 Temps.
*I have to check on the soccer schedule*
Possible short hole between #1 & #2.
The typical anhyzer after #18 will be played.
Some type of hole on the soccer field.  Possibly longer hole with basket near pond.
Possible OB Island Hole near baseball field.
Up near the front of the course the par 4 will play across the road to the basket by the creek.

I don't thing we ever decided.  I'll start a poll!   ;D

We'd run IOSuperClass Open and IOSuperClass Advanced, only, if we did anything with SuperClass.  And on the opposite days from advanced and open.  But I don't know if there is enough interest to justify the expense.

Possible OB Island Hole near baseball field.

I remember one year where the basket was on the pitchers mound (or somewhere near there). There wasn't an island rule but that would be a fun hole: from the outfield with the island being the grassy area of the mound. Dirt is OB.

I suppose the pre-reg only plan won't work so well if we don't have the on-line pre-reg going.

I just sent in the sanctioning agreements today, so we should be up on the PDGA schedule shortly.

Putting Bevier up in Kenosha was totally not my fault!   ;D  I'm sure someone at the PDGA was just copying, pasting and writing over last year's information when she got interrupted by a phone call or something.

I'm no longer encouraging you to register with me.  That was only until the store opened.

I'm getting excited about this event - first event of 2009 where I actually get to PLAY!

Bruce - did you do any custom stamping this year?  What's the non-brass brass going to be like?  What new stock are you bringing in?  I'm probably going to be in the hunt for a Champ or Star Valk in the mid to high 160's.
Title: Re: IOS #1 @ Waukegan, IL May 2nd & 3rd 2009
Post by: Bruce Brakel on April 20, 2009, 07:35:00 PM
The Bevier Blast custom stamp is a simple starburst design.  It is less weird than anything you'd expect from me.   ;)  It will be on Bosses, Destroyers, Grooves and Monarchs.  Maybe Aviars.  It will also be on Buzzzes, Forces, Surges and Challengers, I think, from Discraft.  This is a tought tournament to order for because I have no way of guessing whether it will be an IOS tournament or a Bevier tournament.   ::)

The non-brass will be validated coupons for player packs and CTPs and vouchers for payout.  We'll also make some One Brass notes for making change.

The trophies will have the same artwork as the custom discs, but dyed and larger.  They will be on an assortment of Discraft Z discs.  I'm really hoping that Barrett plays.  The pro women trophy will be a on discontinued disc that she really wants.  We will have trophies for every division that is pre-registered by Monday next week.

Remember, this tournament is pre-registration only.  You can pre-register in the Discontinuum store, by mail, in person at leagues that Brett plays, at the course on Friday for Saturday or Saturday for Sunday.

We will have trophy discs for every division, but divisions that don't pre-register soon won't get their trophy disc personalized.  Currently, Pro Master, Am Master, Intermediate Women and Rec Women need someone to pre-reg soon.

I have never really done a tournament like this before so could someone explain what you mean by a player's pack and what exactly the customized discs are? Also, do all players get them or just the winners?

Saturday players will be able to register thru Friday. Sunday players can register online thru Friday and at the course on Saturday. Please understand that you will NOT be able to register for Sunday during busy check-in times on Saturday.

Bruce is making trophy discs for people who finish at the top of each division and for a few spots for the bigger divisions. People who play in divisions that have not registered soon won't have their division on their trophy disc.

Player packs will be given to all amateur players at check-in time on the morning of the day that they play. It will be a certificate worth $15 at the merch table. You will be able to use it to get a disc, hat, shirt or whatever Bruce has in stock. It may be combined with cash or other IOS prize certificates.

So if you are a junior you could play in Am 4, also known as Novice, on Saturday, or you could play in a junior division on Sunday.  The players in the Am 4 division who are PDGA members or regular tournament players will all be below a certain skill level, but they will be a mix of ages and of at least two genders.  The players in the junior divisions will all be below a certain age, but some of them might be really, really good.  If there is anyone in the Am 4 division who is really, really good, next time we won't let him [or her] play Am 4.

When I was a junior I played golf.  Sometimes I got to play in a foursome with my father's friends who drank, smoked, swore like sailors and told humorous salacious stories from the days when they were sailors.   :o  I also played some junior golf and found it pretty much intolerable.  Junior golf and Lord of the Flies are pretty much the same story.   ;D  Do what works for you.   Feel free to play Am 4 if you want to.

I have lots of questions.  When does on line registration close for Saturday and Sunday?  How late can I switch divisions for Sunday?  I'm not sure how many Rec Women will be playing so I want to play up as far as I need to to play with other girls.

I don't think we have a new policy on division switching.  In the past we've allowed switching divisions and changing between trophy-only and full-fee on the day of the tournament.  I know the on-line pre-reg cut-off time was posted recently.

Quote from: Jon Brakel on April 24, 2009, 08:18:35 PMSaturday players will be able to register thru Friday.

I had not planned on it.  The feedback I'm getting from players is that the new Pro D cuts too easily, wears too fast.  I have not met anyone who has been happy with the new Pro D.  It's like throwing cheese.   :o

I lilke the New Pro D....I switched to the Dart for my putter, because it throws great.  Ben Douglas may be making a permanent home for the Dart for his Driving putter, and Rob Strasser seems to like his too....

On Sunday what time does the actual tournament begin? I assume you can come early to play the course ahead of time. Also, if I were to play in the recreational division would I have to pay the extra $10 then? I know if I play junior I wouldn't have to pay the extra $10 for non-PDGA members.

Check-in before 8:45am
Player meeting at 9:00am
Tee-off two minutes after the two minute warning  ;D Probably about 9:30am
Every non or non-current PDGA member pays the $10 PDGA fee except for juniors playing in a junior division.

Dave - you're thinking the Innova R-Pro - they were talking about the new Discraft Pro-D models of Pro-D Force, Surge, Avenger, Avenger SS, and now general release Pro-D Zone.  I would have ordered these - except the announced them the day after my Discraft order arrived *d'oh!*  Need to wait for some more stuff to sell before ordering again :)

Scott,
Thanks for the correction...Duh...

Also, I was just going through the list of entrants for IOS #1, and I noticed John McHan  32123 Yes 866  Schaumburg IL USA is playing NOVICE. Does this mean a lowly 851 rated player could play there too?   By the way....I predict Kira kicking some hardcore hiney that day....I feel sorry for everyone in Novice...Beat by a girl...Oh wait...happened to me at IOS 6 Last year...I still wish I threw like a girl...

The cap on Novice is 849.  850+ must play Rec or higher.

McHan indicated when he registered that if he was rated too high for Novice, he'd play intermediate.  I'm sure that will get corrected on the PDGA page shortly.

I'll have the Zone, Drone and some other mids and putters in Pro D but not the new drivers.  Among my tournament players there is not a huge market for Pro D drivers.  Carl Spray likes the DX drivers for resale purposes.

I got out to measure the alternate holes today at Bevier.
A 227ft. Plays between 1 & 2. Slightly uphill with a low ceiling. The fairway is split in two by 4 trees prefectly lined up. You have an option to go to the right or left.
B 301ft. Tee will be in the limestone right by the press box of the baseball field. It plays longer than 301ft since it's uphill. The baseball fence sort of comes into play. On & Over the path is out of bounds and comes into play.
C 546ft. Par 4 that's been played in the past. The road is 403ft from the tee. In/Over creek is OB.

For Sunday players only, Kira would like to provide you with the option to have lunch at the course.  She is going to warm up fully pre-cooked jumbo dog sized smoked sausages [non-kosher], and for $2 you can have a smoked sausage on a bun, a bag of chips and a pop or water.  For $3 you can add another dog to that.  You'll have to get in on this at registration so she'll know how many dogs to make.  She will have some basic condiments, ketchup, mustard, relish, and it might be limited to however many dogs she decides to buy.

My name will be first on the list.  I eat her cooking whenever she decides to cook.   ;D

Serge, I would be happy to get a few for you, if you want to try them out.  They cut easily and break in fast.  New they are supposed to fly like the ESP, and broken in, they'll get flippy.  Let me know if you want me to set some aside for you.

I'm also going to get limited quantities of Z Comets, ESP Zones, and 150 ESP Avengers.

You have to sign up and pay in at check-in, if you want the cheap jumbo dog lunch. :grommit:

Diana will be making dogs on Saturday.

$2 = 1 Jumbo Smoked Sausage Dog, 1 Bag of Chips, and 1 water, pop or frozen lemonade
$3 = 2 Jumbo Smoked Sausage Dogs, 1 Bag of Chips, and 1 water, pop or frozen lemonade

The dogs are fully pre-cooked and not kosher.

I will probably wind up in Open so that would make for three Advanced rated players and three Pro rated players.  The Open division is so small right now, if three more advanced players were to get in [for half, if you want] one of the Advanced rated players would cash.

We got home safely at 3:00 a.m. or so.

Kiralyn is pumped to do hotdogs at Cryztal Lake.  If Adrian wants to wear the chef hat again, Kira is fine with serving as the Maitre D'.  She sold every dog she bought, so that worked out nicely.  2 dogs, chips and a beverage for $3 is pretty nice.

IOS 3 should be announceable pretty soon.

[edit] Now that this one is past, I'm going to unsticky it, if everyone is ok with that. [/edit]

The Two Dog lunch will definately be offered at Crystal Lake.  The price might go up 50 cents if the supplies are not available for the same good price as this weekend.  Right now you can prereg for lunch and the tournament by paypal to rollerdoos@aol.com for $35 for an Amateur or $55 for a pro.

This was Kiralyn's idea and it is her micro-business.  Adrian's volunteer help was greatly appreciated.
