Title: What are the Top 10 courses within 1 hour of driving from Aurora?
Post by: danknugs on May 10, 2009, 11:24:10 AM
I have heard there are some nice courses in Joliet. I havent made it out there yet. The best course I have played by FAR is Rockford. I would like to find some courses that are similar to Rockford. Any help is appreciated

What did you like about Rockford? What level of golfer are you? There are various types of courses in the area but some are more demanding than others, and I wouldn't recommend them to beginners.

Most of theses courses are well over an hour from Aurora, but less than 2 hours. They are all worth the drive, however.
Within an hour there are many courses.

Some of the better ones in this list include:
Madison Meadows in Lombard
West Park in Joliet
Community Park in Channahon
Highland Park in Joliet
The Oaks in Mokena
Shady Oaks in Streamwood
and if you want to stay local - Eagle Ridge in Oswego
however Jericho Lake in Aurora can give you a challenge from the longs ....... when it is dry!

Go play Sinnissippi in Rock Falls.  It is at about as good a course as either of the Rockford courses though it may be slightly farther than an hour (maybe 15 more min).  Other than that the top five within an hour of you would be Channahon, Highland Park in Joliet, all of the courses in Crown Pointe Indiana, Mokena just for the number of holes and the previously mentioned Sinnissippi course.  The best day of disc golf would definitely be in Crown Pointe.  Go early and play all four courses

Thanks for all the advice guys.... We went to Highland Park yesterday and I must say it was the toughest course I have ever played. But it was a lot of fun. I loved the layout of the holes, and it was cool how they had some elevation shots both going down and up. I have played Oswego and Jericho. I play them mostly since they are the closest. Thinking of going somewhere else next wknd. Are all 4 courses at Crown Point close to each other? Is it worth the drive?

Definately worth the drive from Chicago.  Leave early and play all day.  Here's a link to help you find directions:

I could give you a fish, but I'd rather give you a fishing pole and show you the river.   ;D

Two of my favorites that have not been mentioned are Trinity Links in Lockport and Lewis University in Romeoville.
DO NOT try to play Lewis or Mokena alone.  You WILL get lost trying to follow the course.  The layouts are poor but w/ good holes.  At Lewis, every hole (except #1 + #8) would be considered a "signature" hole on any other course.

Don't miss Peoria, BEST courses in the state, while Centralia is probably the toughest in IL.
