Let the games begin. Work will start @ Fairfield next Saturday.
04-05-03
8:00AM to ?
We will be working on tees #1 thru #6. We will also be spreading wood chips around those baskets as well. Hopefully the park district will install the #3 basket this week.
Please bring any tools that may be useful & a rake if you have one to spread the wood chips. Spread the word.
PLEASE HELP!! We need all the help we can get.
Thanks
Brett
I will try, but I can't guarantee that I will be there.
Oh yeah, I can supply a shovel and a couple rakes. I have a hoe as well.
Hee... hoe.
Its looking more like I'll be able to help out on Saturday. I should know for certain by tomorrow.
Yeah, its confirmed - I shall be there.
I'd really not recommend running two cleanups the same day at different courses... You're much more likely to get people to help if they are already there...
Also, maybe it's not a bad idea to do the cleanup on a Saturday morning like before... Judging by how the last day went we're more likely to get the help of some of the league regulars out there before 11AM versus at or after 11.
I will and perhaps Danny will also!
I will email Phil Clark & Tim Davis, and call Dave Brown and Alex Bingman.
Brett, have you sent out a general email? I will send/forward it to all the new players who gave us their emails at the HPC Memorial.
To those who have not committed: PLEASE show up and help! Supportive talk is fine, but we're gonna need you guys to get out and help!!! THANKS!
Done.
I can bring a wheelbarrow, a square spade, a pointed shovel, some garbage bags, a broom, and a rake.
I doubt I'll have time or room to bring coffee, as I had hoped.
Also, did not call Dave Brown. Lost his phone number. Brett, do you have it?
It is going to be raining Thurs, Fri and maybe even Saturday. It will be muddy and chilly, so please dress warm.
Let's do a great job on Fairfield!!!!!!
Will Keith or any other RLPD staff be there Sat morning?
13 Players drove from as far as Milwaukee and Chicago to come out this morning for the first of three or four "improvement" days at Fairfield. It was only 28 degrees with 15+mph winds. We finished two 5x12 teepads with crushed (I mean FROZEN CHUNKS of) limestone, and skirted about 10 baskets with woodchips. Also got some wooded fairways cleaned up and lined with felled trees.
THANKS to Brett Comincioli, Maddison, Becky (Tree) and Jon Brakel, Phil Clark, Al Short, Dave Brown(ie), Rob Schoenhoft, Myk Deardorf, Daniel Wheeler, Garrett Moddox, Jason Hany for such hard work in the cold! This was a real step for Illinois disc golf, as members of three different groups/clubs joined forces to tackle this project! The C-Tier Illinois Open on August 10th is gonna ROCK BABY!
My deepest apologies, BC! That was not intentional or subliminal, just MY dorkiness. sorry. fixed now......
Let's set a date!
Why not plan two? I suggest:
(A) Saturday, April 26th, 11am
or
Sunday, April 27th, 2pm (after Bevier leagues)
(B) Saturday May 24th, 11am
or
Sunday, May 25th, 2pm (after Bevier leagues)
Don't forget we have Bevier Cleanup on Sunday, April 27th before Bevier leagues!
Who is going to help? Anyone?
So far,
Brett, Jim, Jon, & maybe Danny.
Jim,
I did send out an e-mail. Please forward it. I sent it to Dave & Phil as well.
Met the the park district this morning.
We are going to be working on tees #1 thru #6 & spreading wood chips around #1 thru #6 baskets. They are still trying to locate basket #3. They aren't sure where it is. Once they locate it, they said they'd get it in the ground ASAP.
Tees-] There are going to dig 5X8, 4 inch deep tee pads. They are also going to fill them with limestone. We have to level them & pack them down. They are leaving extra limestone in the parking lot in case we need some extra to top off the tee pads.
Wood Chips-] They are going to dump the wood chips in 2 locations. A big pile in a central location where #3 basket used to be & by #6 basket. All we have to do is haul the wood chips to each basket & spread them.
Chain & Baskets-] The park district said they would purchase chain. They would be homemade chain upgrades but that would do. Shawn, can we see your basket to see how the inner chains are attached? They also said they would purchase paint to pain the top rims that are starting to rust. I'm going to buy 2" #'s to renumber the baskets once they are repainted.
Does anyone have a wheel barrow? We need at least 1 to haul wood chips & limestone. Please bring rakes & shovels as well.
They dug the tee pads today. As I drove by, I could tell they were done. Looks I hope the weather cooperates. I don't have Dave's #. Not sure where I put it. I have 2 shovels & 2 rakes.
i think there will be a worker there. not 100% on that though.
Excellent,
So Brett, Jim, Jon, Myk, Mirth, Phil, & Dave will be there for sure tomorrow. Hopefully we'll get at least one more.
I went out today. They dug all 6 tee pads & filled #1 & #2 with limestone. Hopefully they will fill #3-#6 later today. They dumped all the wood chips.
I worked on #1 tee pad. Man, they are BIG. #1 is 6X15ft. A few of the others are longner. The limestone is a little bigger than I expected. Some is more gravel size & some is smaller. The gravel is very wet so the bigger pieces are sinking in well. Hopefully when it dries it'll be like concrete. I raked the gravel in, leveled it, then tamped the pad to make it solid. It actually looks pretty good so far. I'm curious to see how they hold up.
Here is what I have planned for tomorrow.
4 groups of 2 people.
Group 1. Spread limestone/gravel quickly.
Group 2. Level limestone tees.
Group 3. Tamp the tees.
Group 4. Spread wood chips around baskets.
I think it'll take us about 1/2hr per pad. We are looking at 3 hours.
Well, we got started this weekend. Things did not go as planned. The park district was not able to get the limestoned poured into the tees due the the wetness on Friday. We were able to start spreading wood chips around the baskets (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 13, 18). Tee work will begin on our next work day. Thanks to all that attended!!
Speaking of work days. When would we like our next one to be? Please give me some date so I can arrange a date with the park district.
Played a round today @ Fairfield. #'s 3,5 & 6 pads now have nice small crushed limestone. They are somewhat level but need some work. Players have been throwing off them & they have great traction. Wood chips were also spread down the hill on #7. Still need more but the movement has begun. We'll have to go back & fix #1 & #2. Those are horrible with that big stone.
Help me out with a date. Any suggestions for the next date?
I just sent a message to Keith @ RLAPD. I'm checking to see if they can get more work ready by Saturday April 26th. I'd like to get 6 more pads done & chip holes #7, 8, 15, 16, & 17.
If Keith ok's that date, i'm going to take off work that Friday. I'm going to make sure everything is ready for Saturday morning & wood chips are dumped in the spots we want them.
I can't believe you guys want me to wake up so early on a Saturday morning. WoW!!
I'll be there though not with bells on.
Myk Deardork?? In the immortal words of The Blues Brothers, "What did I do to piss you off this time, Baby!!"
Seriously though, it's all good. I've been called much worse since 3rd grade. Just thought you'd be a little more original. :D:P:D
UWP Clean up is the same day from 9-1. Kyle and I are heading there to clean up then going to Tendick for a couple rounds. We still haven't played there.
I promise to be there. If I don't get much better between now and then, I don't know how much work I'll be able to do.
I'm thinking in my condition that Maddisen and I would be most productive leveling tees. I get really winded doing any walking or lifting as I'm still recovering from bronchitis. I'll raid my Dad's garage on the way and see what I can bring.
Also thanks to Tom Renn of Micro Medics for the fantastically hot coffee that he delivered out to the course for us!!!
