Anyone is welcome to attend.
Just a reminder: club meeting tomorrow night.
Few things evoke such emotion in me that I feel the need to vent on the message board. But, today at league at Warren Township one of those events occurred and I felt it timely to suggest a discussion of this matter at the Monday club meeting. Regrettably, I will not likely be present.
A playoff was required to determine first place after a tie between two teams. After all tee shots were taken, a question was raised by one of the players involved if the CTP shot had to be made or if the rules called for a CTP only. I stated my understanding that the CTP determined the winner and no shot had to be made. I was berated by the player (a fellow club member) who asked the question, stating that only the players involved (I was not involved) in the playoff decided the outcome. An argument ensued during which this individual referred to me as a "Jew" in an intentionally derogatory fashion. Needless to say, I found this comment to be offensive, obnoxious, and un-called for.
I am requesting to know the club's official position on this type of verbal assault between members or others present at club events. I would like to hear from each of the club officers, club members David Barish, Jason Cohen, Jonathan Dobberstein, Kenny Glassman and William Rosenbaum as well as anyone else who may have anything to say in this matter. Thank you.
This is my personal feeling and the club officers will discuss this tomorrow night.
Whomever started the make the putt for a CTP in this area should be banned from disc golf for life. It's a pretty idiotic rule.
The rule has been and will always be a straight up CTP for DISContinuum League.
Sorry to hear about the conflict. This game and league are supposed to be fun. I understand that in competition things get heated and some people can blow up. Racial comments are not part of that. I am totally embarassed if this is what happened.
Mitch
I was not there and take your version at face value.I don't know who you are referring to as I write this. One, You were correct. I have always seen ties decided by a CTP shot. Two, even though we all need to have thick skin, direct racial, religious, etc. insults are out of bounds. I am not referring to good natured banter. If anybody ever saw the banter between Clint Eastwood and his barber in Grand Torino you know those "insults" were made with respect. The type of insult you describe is verboten. To put it bluntly somebody can always call you or I an asshole but cannot call us a Jew asshole. My two cents. (I can make a smart aleck comment here about being to cheap to put in more than two cents. A non-Jew cannot, just as African Americans can use the N word and Whites cannot.) I am really sorry you had to put up with this.
Sorry to hear that happened Mitch. Obviously that is uncalled for and does not represent the feelings of the vast majority of Club members. Its embarrassing that somebody actually thinks thats appropriate.
As far as I'm aware we have never had a 'make the putt' rule at Sunday leagues for the CTP. I've actually never heard of the 'make the putt' rule anywhere in the country other than a few of these leagues in this area. There is no logic to the rule. Either have a sudden death playoff or an actual 'CTP', this in between thing people do around here makes about as much sense as the College Football BCS system.
Truly pathetic. Between this and all the virtriol a few weeks ago about smoking at Adler it's a wonder anyone plays leagues at all. You don't have to be Jewish to be offended by this...
Mitch, I feel really bad and embarrassed that this happened at league today. I enjoy your presence at league and hope you will continue to come out.
Don't forget there is a club meeting tonight.
Mitch- Truly a sad way to finish a good day at Warren. Don't let one angry person turn you off from leagues. It was inappropriate and uncalled for. As far as the 'need to put rule' on ctp playoffs, -ridiculous! Discontinuum has never used such a rule, but I have seen it used years ago at Adler leagues. -perhaps this is where the idea started...
I'm going to try to make it to the meeting. I'm going to drive half way and then do the math and see if I'll make it in time.
As for Mitch's situation, I can assure you that if I witnessed that at an IOS that the person would be DQ'd. And we would never have a "make the putt" CTP at an IOS either.

Mitch,
As a relatively new member, I certainly find this situation to be disappointing. However, I have faced similar circumstances in the past. Many years ago, I decided that my best course of action is to ignore the idiot who decided to stoop so low in the first place. Chances are, he only used such an insult to provoke further argument and/or a physical altercation. Responding to such an insult only gives that person the attention he so desperately craves, which is why I simply decline to acknowledge such stupidity.
While I understand that further discussion is on the hypocritical side of things for my point of view, I am only voicing my opinion because you asked for it. I truly believe that in this situation on the disc golf course or elsewhere, these types of insults should only be ignored. Such stupidity should not originate from grown men in today's world. I will not waste time or any sort of effort on people who choose to practice prejudice.
I also agree with most of the previously posted comments...I can and have taken a joke from friends who wants to call me a cheap Jew, but anyone with half a brain would never use that with the intent as you described it. Maybe we should bring a copy of "Manners for Dummies" to this uninformed dolt.
I hope this is a good learning experience for all. I am happy to say that in my short time (5-6 years) participating in disc golf, I have not been directly confronted with such stupidity. I hope I am able to say that for years to come.
Sorry to hear that Mitch.

The club officers in attendance discussed this very serious issue. We plan on handling this internally to resolve the issue with those involved.
8. Other Topics?
Club Promotion--We are looking for someone to create a nice looking club flyer that can be posted at all the area courses. We are also looking for individuals that want to get more involved.
A2B Board Shop-- There has been an issue with stickers being placed on many of the areas lcourses. They also wrote A2B on the bench in Waukegan. Brett is going to contact the owner to get this stopped.
I apologize for our stickers. We pass them out for free at our shop and
encourage kids to promote our shop. Kids will be kids and ill do my best to
make my way out there and get rid of them in the next few weeks.
We are really doing our best to help promote the sport in our area by
providing a quality selection of discs and accessories. Any help that you or
your club is willing to provide would be greatly appreciated by us.
Any furthur issues let me know,
Andrew Culp

"Any help that you or your club is willing to provide would be greatly appreciated by us." hehe, yeah, find someone with the club that would be willing to be your contact to provide disc merchandise for you! lol :-P
Hey Club Members: what's up with the attendance (or lack of it???) 4 people could make it, that's it? I hope that my excuse of being 2 hours away finishing a closing on a house is good enough, but I would have gone out of my way any other day of this week to be there.
115 club members and only 4 show up - we need to step up and show our support more! I'm sure we all have our excuses and reasons - and I know for some it's tough to get to Grayslake, but man, if it wasn't for the extremely hard work of a select few, this club would be NOTHING.
I didn't get out of work in time to make it up to Aurora. There was a time when I was on the ops committee and then later on the board when I'd wish that fewer people would turn up for meetings. It was chaos and every time someone would want to vote on a rule about league. Back then league rules could change at every meeting! But later when things calmed down and we changed the way the club operated and voted on things, I never felt like members weren't supporting if they didn't show up to meetings. We all do what we can when we can, right?
WAsn't able to attend Mitch's on Monday, but I went there Tuesday night. Almost got that Big Foot dog, next time.

I understand where you are coming from Scott, but I think we should be careful before going down the road of putting Club Members on a guilt trip if they don't volunteer their time. Some people just want to pay their 15 bucks to show support to the Club and the active members who make the wheels turn. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and nobody should feel they have to explain themselves if they don't attend or help out at a club function. Afterall, very few of us are benefitting financially from this game, its just something we do for fun in our freetime to escape the rigors of your everyday job. If you can step up and give more of your time, then great! I'm sure every bit of help is greatly appreciated by the select few who do the majority of the work.

Dan- Well said and true.
I think I get points for a shorter answer.
We all do what we can when we can. I'm fine with the people that my statement means $15 a year.
I will not get to a weekday meeting for the same reason I can't get to a weekday league. I work in the loop. How many people did we have when we had a virtual meeting about a year ago? That meeting was pretty well attended. Want to have a really well attended meeting? Have one between rounds on September 7 or at the glow event. The club is extremely geographically diverse and that makes getting together difficult.
I'd like to thank the club's BOD for the time taken to address my concerns. I'd also like to thank those who commented and showed me support.
After a little time to cool off I have concluded that I am not going to let this incident interfere with the enjoyment that I get from the club, the game, or the quality friendships that I have made over the years.
Thanks again.
Glad to hear that Mitch!
