Title: How's Your Bag Holding Up?
Post by: damonshort on August 23, 2009, 02:56:00 PM
... no, it's not a personal question.

I've had two Gateway bags over the years, and the bottom seams wore out on both of them. I'm thinking the current one might only be a couple of years old (I bought it like new from Tom S but I can't remember when), but I had the first one longer than that. I think moisture rots out the threads as the first one fell apart around the bottle holder.

Maybe a couple of years is reasonable, but I wonder if anyone's getting better mileage with another product. I really like the Gateway bag otherwise and I'd really rather not spend more than $100...

don't really know on this one Damon. How wet is your bag getting?? I have had a Gateway for over 7 years now, and no problems at all. I hardly ever play in any rain, unless the weather turns bad at a tourny. Never play in the snow, to where you always lay it down in the snow. Maybe you play leagues during the winter, and that moisture breaks down the seems?? Don't really have any ideas, cause like I said no problems at all with the bag, other than the leather pad on the shoulder strap, the threads came loose there, but was fixable with a thread and needle. But with all the sweat from that shoulder strap on wet shirts in 90 degree weather would explain this. Hope you can figure it out. It seems  a $100.00 every few years for a bag would get expensive.

Take a look at the Gorilla Boy bags. In my opinion they are as good or better than Revolution bags and cost less.
I have one that I use for winter and glow rounds. It is holding up very well.

i used the innova tour bag(now i think its called the competition bag) for quite a few years(2002-2008) before upgrading to one with more pockets, thats the only reason i switched. the tour bag had been used in the rain and snow without any problems with the bottom or seems. it even slid down a muddy hill into a pond and nothing got wet on the inside. i still have and use it for a backup bag when traveling. i use the innova discarrier now and have been since last season, i put it through all the elements of the outside with no problems. another good thing is they are with in your budget $100.

I've had my revolution bag for about 3 years and it still looks like new... It has a lot of mileage on it, through rain and snow. Definitely recommended.

I think my navy blue bag is revolution with quad shock straps. Both are at least 3 years old. no issues. I have a new fade bag this year with the old quad shocks. No issues so far but it hasn't gotten really wet and hasn't been in the snow either.

fade gear has nice bags, but not that water proof. 2 of my friends played in the rain with their fade bags completely closed and things were soaked on the inside of the pockets, about 8 days later the pockets dry rotted and one cracked. its the weirdest thing Ive ever seen a bag do, and they got them at the sinnissippi tournament so they aren't that old. i know others that have those bags that don't have that problem.

Duain,

Have them contact Tim at FadeGear - I'm sure he would not only appreciate the feedback, but that might be covered under their warranty as well.  It's worth checking out at least.

Have a soon to be 4 year old gorilla boy silverback. Looks incredible. Almost like the day I bought it minus the dust at the bottom of the rollcage.

Definitely recommend gorilla-boy.com if you never heard of them.

Hi, Fademan here and I do not remember ever hearing about this or any problem related to water issues. If this is the case, I would sure like the feedback. Can't imagine having a bag under warranty and not doing anything about it.

That is really odd. We have less than 1 tenth of 1 percent warranty returns. That is one bag in a thousand. Never heard of a water problem and I have played in the rain with my bags plenty. If it was a real problem, I would have bags coming back here all the time.
