Mark your calenders.
And yes, you read correctly; Pro and Am this year.
More info TBA...
woo!
Any more info on this ...flyer anything?
please note that ALL of this is subject to change, BUT, this is where it's at right now, and more than likely it's going to stay at this. I just need to get the final ok with Dana on a few prices and make sure that he wants me to do pre-reg, and I'll get it going as soon as that thumbs up is given.
What has been determined so far:
2 Pools - 90 Pro's, 90 AM's
We will have CFR discs available to help boost the purse for the Pro's cuz that's always a cool thing to do :)
2 day event, B-Tier for all divisions.
Pro's: Sat (Shotgun) R1: Highland Park (White), R2: Lockport; Sun (Tee Times): R1: Highland (Blue), Final 9: Safari @ Channahon
AM's: Sat (Shotgun) R1: Lockport, R2: Highland Park (mix tees based on division White/Red); Sun (Tee Times): R1: Channahon (Longs).
Current Entry Fees (again, note, this may change):
Pro - $80; Half-in $40
AM's - $40
Am's will only have Advanced, Intermediate, Recreational, Novice, and possibly Advanced Master
Am's will get a $20 Reward Dollar player pack
We hope that there will be a free lunch for all on Sunday.
We hope that there will be some sort of player party Saturday night.
Get excited :)
Thanks for the info Scott! Looking forward to the event.
Just hoping the Pro entry fee is lowered a bit. That $80 entry fee will keep some players away. With Ams being able to play the half in option won't be as attractive. They can play full and compete for prizes at the same price. Half in is also a major pain in the ass to deal with when it comes to awards as well. I believe the entry fee was $70 last year and there were 32 players.
Wasn't the weather atrocious last year too? Definitely hoping to be able to play this year. Trimming the Am pools down a few more may help improve pro field as well.
40 bucks seems unreasonable for an Am B-Tier. Expecially for the lower divisions. Homie prices:
Men's Open -- $50
Women's Open -- $40
Advanced -- $30
Int, Rec -- $25
Novice -- $20
Includes both lunch and dinner. Where's the better value?
Edit: I missed that it's three rounds over two days. That helps justify the cost, IMO.

Actually the weather was pretty nice both days. It was REALLY windy at Channon for the final round.

Brett, maybe you could explain to those guys that half of 80 is 40. ;D Scott, if you need step by step directions for calculating half-in, let me know. It is not hard if you follow the steps.

Why would an Amateur pay $40 to play half in Pro when they can pay $40 and play amateur full in prizes?
With those entry fees I would not expect any amateur to play Open unless he is ready to cash and go pro. Half-in is not that attractive to Advanced players who also have an Advanced division to play in.
To can't putt: $40 is pretty average for a B-tier advanced entry fee. Kind of pricey for lower divisions. You can probably play there for free the weekend before or after. There is nothing like voting with your feet!
My thoughts with the $40 is a mix of many factors. Because I'm limited to 90 players, I want to make it an event where every player in every division is serious about getting out there and playing. I'm a novice player myself, and I compete to the best of my ability. I take my game seriously while still enjoying my day. I compete against many other novice players who take the game just as seriously if not more. So for an entry fee of $40, I want to attract the players that will want to take it just as seriously. A player committing to a two-day event is already pretty serious about their play.
The end benefits for the players when it's a $40 entry fee...
-$20 pick your own player pack instead of $15
-increased payouts (I can't say by how much because it's not determined right now, but it would be a significant increase)
-increased CTP's and prizes
-better trophies
I can't include the food in that because I don't know if we're going to be able to get that sponsored or use a couple bucks from the entry fee.
In the end I'd leave with my cost of goods sold from the player packs and payouts and no additional money than if the entry fee was $30. So I get no real benefit from the $40 entry fee other than going home with fewer discs that I sold at cost than if I had a $30 entry fee and not as high of a payout.
I don't think a $40.00 entry for a 2 day amateur B-Tier is that bad. The number of rounds and courses make it worthwhile.
Note on the pro entry fee: $80 is the middle ground that Tom Matesivic and I came to. I'm all for a much lower entry fee, believe me.
I'm home for a little while now so I'll have some time to get things moving in the right direction.

Register early and register often
I'll second that. They were there with a chainsaw removing a fallen tree on Tuesday and then again last night. Tom said he's put in a lot of hours over the past 3 weeks, and it really shows. The course looks fantastic.
Can't wait!
Might be worthwhile to start posting what kind of added cash there is.
I am going to be in town for my grandpa's funeral but might be able to make light of the situation by playing this event. Hopefully I can pull it off. I did see only a couple of people signed up for the tournament on pdga, but Im guessing more have signed up. I am not sure if I will be able to play...so my question is will there be a chance I can sign up day of?
If there is space available, we'll have day-of registration. I have about 6 or so registrations that are not online yet. So right now there is plenty of room. However, I usually get a BUNCH of registrations the week of the event, so I don't know what's going to happen. It's definitely worthwhile monitoring the situation as the week progresses. I update it as quickly as I can.
$1000ish+ added to pro purse
So there is no confusion this year, we will have all hole specific rules printed out and given to each player.
Might have a player party/bonfire...workin on that.
I am trying to find out where Highland Park is. The joliet web page doesn't list it and PDGA has it as 2 names Highland and Pilcher. Does anyone have a link to the correct park and location? The Chicago Land link on this page doesn't work either. I would assume open is signing up at this course, is that correct?
I-80; North on Briggs St (Exit 134), right on E Cass St/ US 30. Slight left at Highland Park Dr. The park is on the right - 1st hole across street from parking lot.
Jason, from where you're coming from, I'd recommend taking I-355 south to US-6. The better coordinates for the parking lot are 41.533172,-88.032375.

Are you going with the pre-reg rule for players who are no longer eligible to play in the division of their choice? Don't go look to see who before deciding. >:D
Pitner is running the Am side so it's up to him..
I looked and there is no one posted on pdga.com that is over the division limits.

You are correct. I was posting from the other side of a time-space discontinuity. Intermediate goes way up into the 930s these days!
it all depends on when Addie sends me the list - and then I have to print it out. Since there's no pavilion or power at Lockport, I'd have to have the printed list. However, if there's suspect people posting on the board querying about it - then there might be extra suspicion and intrigue over those changing ratings ;)
What's the grace period, 2 weeks? So that way if I completely screw up and can't check them all fast enough I won't get yelled at? (well, yelled at as much)
Couple changes to the disc order - I just had calls from all 3 companies about my custom stamping orders - it sounds like all 3 are getting stamped today and all 3 shipping today. I'll have the Gateway tomorrow and the Innova/Discraft Wednesday. Huge stock order of Innova arriving Thursday including all of the new stuff (Star Mako, Star San Marino Roc, Pro Boss, a few Star Dart):
Discraft - FLX Drones will not have the custom stamp - just coming in stock stamp
Gateway - they only had Organic Wizards available for custom stamping - so I'm getting a bunch of those. They are supposedly pretty popular though.
Innova - They didn't have any R-Pro Ontario Roc's left, however, they had something even cooler that as of last week wasn't even available. R-Pro RANCHO Roc's! Not to be confused with R-Wood Pro Rancho Roc's (which I'm also getting). Rancho Rocs are your standard Roc (DX, KC Pro, etc), so this disc in R-Pro should be pretty sweet.
I'm getting reports that the stamp turned out great, so I look forward to seeing all of this stuff coming in!
Just for clarification (this is already posted on my website):
Pool A (Pro's) - Report to Highland Park (Joliet) on BOTH Saturday and Sunday morning.
Pool B (AM's) - Report to Trinity Links (Lockport) Saturday morning. Report to Community Park (Channahon) Sunday morning.
Saturday - Dana will be at Highland Park all day. I'll be at Trinity Links all day.
Sunday - Dana will be at Highland Park in the morning and then go to Community Park. I'll be at Community Park all day.
Sunday we will have chili for sale (most likely hot dogs as well).
At which parks?
All the food will be at Channahon (presumably) since all of the AM's will be there and the Pro's that are either getting payouts or want to watch the final 9 will also be heading over there and will be there at the same time.
I'm working to ensure that it's free food Sunday as promised :) I haven't talked to Dana about it in depth yet though.
I did confirm that Channahon's bathrooms will still be open this weekend as well as all of the porta-potties that they get for Cross Country will still be there too.
Dress warm this weekend!
I'm planning on getting a bonfire going at Highland on Saturday. You guys are going to be impressed when you see the shape Highland is in.
Looking foward to the tourney but not looking foward to the weather...Should be some interesting scores from the highland longs this year.
well the good thing is that highland longs are on Sunday, and the forecast for sunday has been partly sunny with a high in the mid-50's all week. So it shouldn't be too bad. Now, Saturday morning might not be as fun - but I don't know how heavy that rain is supposed to be. Afternoon will be cleared up.
I'll have Monster ($2), Gatorade ($1.50) and pop ($.75) for sale all day at Highland on Saturday. I'll also have Cliff Bars ($2) and nuts/cashews ($1).
Free food on Sunday will be chips and chili.
We will have drinks for sale on Sunday as well.
Remember, pros go to Highland Sat AM and ams go to Lockport.
SATURDAY: 7:30-8:45 AM at your starting course, Players Meeting: 9:15 AM, Tee Time
Awesome job Dana! Chili sounds good. Thanks goes out to you and Scott for running the event, and the Army that helps.
I have some $$ for you for that disc too.
I'll be at Highland later today, if anyone wants to register and save the Sat. AM $5 late fee.

Make sure you bring water socks and extra shoes. Lockport is very very sloppy. Be prepared to play it.
Thumbs up
Woo, 9 hours! Any news on a players' party?
The day started off a little cold and rainy but ended very sunny and very warm. The rain wasn't bad and went away half way thru the round. Dana said there was $1300 added cash which is unreal!
Al Hermosillo absolutely destroyed Lockport with a -12 and jumped to a 3 stroke lead going into tomorrow. He aced #9 during that round.
Personally it was a very fun day. Blew up #10 at Highland for an ace. Shot -2 at Highland & -6 at Lockport. 3 back of Al and in 2nd place going into tomorrow.

Nice ace. A -12 is unreal at Lockport.
If you have not been to Highland Park you are missing on a real treat. It is a well designed course with very good flow between holes. There has been a ton of work that has gone into this course.
Thanks to Dana and Scott for putting on this event. I am looking forward to playing Channahon tomorrow.
The player party fell through, and then we decided it was too wet to try to get a bon fire started. However, that means it's going to give Dana and myself a chance to sleep! (haha yeah right).
The scores from today are posted:
http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9611&year=2009&include_ratings=1 (http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9611&year=2009&include_ratings=1)
Since I'll have power and internet at Channahon, scores will be posted immediately following the round conclusion.
Thanks to Scott and Dana for running a great event. In the past month Frank has done quite a bit more work out at Channahon, and it has paid off. The course is looking very good.
I know that it is easy to say, and hard to do, but a summertime tournament at Channahon would be sweet. It would be nice to have a tourney at the course when all the trees are in full bloom.
Thanks to all the Joliet guys who worked hard to make this event happen. Congrats to Al for the big win.
Again, thank you Scott, running 9 events this year was very impressive.
Looks like Grayson kicked some ass out there :o Dang
What a great weekend of golf. There were a ton of people that pitched in to make this event happen. Thank you everyone involved!
Highland is by far the most challenging course in the Chicagoland Area.
Besides the 2 A-Tiers in Illinois this was the only other 2 day event. A lot of people missed a fantastic weekend of golf!
-12 from the longs may take a while to beat. Unreal! Good shooting Al.
Great hosting with great people and lots of fun.
Looking forward to next year. Thank you goes to all involved for the nice improvements to all three courses!
:)
Just need to clarify - the 12 down was at Trinity Links. It included an Ace on Hole 9.
Congrats to Al for his Ace as well as Brett for his Ace on hole 10 at Highland from the white tees.
