Title: Hoffman Estates, IL--->Black Bear Park
Post by: CEValkyrie on November 22, 2009, 03:46:25 PM
This park has drastically changed since I visited it in the summer of 2007. There was nothing there at all. Initially the park representative wanted to install a 9 hole course. There was quite a bit of wetland and heavy underbrush in the woods. Most of the park was not accessible.  I had not heard back from him. After hearing that this course was in the ground Tom & I went and checked it out. They have done some massive work to this park with the addition of walking trails, basketball court, playground, etc...The underbrush in the woods has been totally cleared and the park looks totally different than it did 2 years ago.

As for the course.

18 holes--Innova Discatchers

Signs are not finished but are big and easy to find.

There are 2 types of tees.
Many of the tees use the asphalt path.
The others are framed with artificial turf-> http://www.perfectturfsports.com/node/8
Both are going to be slippery when wet.

This course is very short. 1 hole over 300ft. Many of the holes play near and down walking paths similar to Crystal Lake. Many of the baskets are very close to either tees or other baskets. There are 2 places where you walk across another fairway to get to the next hole.

Of the 18 holes there are several decent holes. There are also quite a few hokey and lame holes. Many of the holes play in the woods. Several are poke and hope holes. This course fits in well with other Chicagoland disc golf courses. It is short and an under par course. Welcome to the mecca Hoffman Estates!

McManus 52/-2 (Devasting 6 on #14 knocked him out of contention)
Comincioli 45/-9

Played this course yesterday and today. pretty nice it is short like brett said. lots of aces to be hit out there. i aced 17 today. wish it was a little longer. I could see it becoming a problem in the summer months with all the path going thought the course. finally a ok 18 hole course in cook country
