are you the TD Matt?
yes sir. This will be my second Tourney that i will be hosting. Think you can make it up doug?
Where and how does someone sign-up?
good question. Pre Reg is up and going on pdga.com Event Schedule and Results under the April tab.
I am very excited Matt is running this event at Bevier! Bevier is an underrated course in the Chicagoland Area. It's a solid course. Unlike many territorial disc golfers I welcome a so called outsider. It's so nice to be able to play and not have to run a local event. I appreciate your time and effort Matt! You have my full support.
Thanks for the support Brett. I have traveled around and watched how events are ran and tried to take not of the do's and dont's. My goal is to run the best event i can run. If any one has questions or concerns please let me know. Thankyou
I'll be there fosure! Thanks for running this Matt! ;)
Thank you for coming. Im ready to start the new season
AWESOME....I hope Tennis doesn't conflict because that would be a bummer.

Yea well.....tennis is the priority for a bunch of different reasons right now. There will be plenty of other oppurtunities come summer for tournaments.

a new course, and a very cool TD? I will clear my calendar at work for this event tomorrow. Almost 4 hour drive kinda blows doing it alone, but you should see my name on pre reg list sometime soon.
Thanks for also running tournaments Matt. A very good and competitive player, should make a great TD! I will travel the long distance knowing I wont go home disappointed. See you in April, if not sooner somewhere else.
Looking forward to the start of the 2010 disc golf season. Its good to see somebody new stepping up to run a tournament. I'll be practicing in the cold March weather to try and get my game up before April 3! Opening Day for the Cubs will be the next day. Spring is the best time of the year. See you in April, Matt.
sweet, thats my b day...
Matt thank for stepping up and running a tournament at the Bev. It is good to see new people running tournaments. I hope work does not stop me from attending. Good Luck!
Edited for spelling!

I have not been out to Bevier but there is still deep snow in Waukegan. I work in Waukegan and there is at least 4 inches on the ground. I have been playing at Gurnee all week and the snow is still deep there but the tees are clear.

I have a question Matt - in your signature it says you are 960 rated, but on the PDGA site it is saying 957. How do you explain this discrepancy?
its all a conspiracy

That is some funny stuff.
40 out of 80 registered. Please dont miss out, I recieved 10 registrations today. I will be posting updates daily about whats going on. Deadline for online registration is Thursday Night.
As of right now I'm planning on making the trip down...unfortunately it's not 100%
Being Easter weekend I may be heading to the in-law's which is near Madison. I did notice there is late registration and a $5 fee for day of registration, correct? Sorry to be "that" guy but I can't commit until later in the week.
ya day of registration is 5 dollars more. hope to see you there serg.
Has anyone seen the condition of the course recently?
I played there yesterday. The course is in fantastic condition for this time of year. Its a little soft across the street, but nothing too bad.
are there any areas that will decline the 'field of play' with the 'thunder showers' expected for Saturday
Randy
I played there on Saturday (see the Lost and Found post that I made regarding that day)
The course is in good shape. 12, the old A, is slightly muddy but its dry mud. with the warm weather it should be no problem at all and was really no problem last week. 16, the old B, was in good shape and not muddy. the newer holes on the west side if McAree were in good shape. the Tee pad on 8 is a little lumpy. That entire area is was mowed before the winter and the prairie grasses are very low. Its easy to find errant drives but very open if its a windy day.
The snow drained very well and the grass is not chopped up. Absent a monsoon the footing should be excellent this weekend.
I don't know whether Matt plans any extra holes. The areas around the soccer and baseball field are dry so that would be fine. If he plans a hole between one and two the tunnel's ceiling would be pretty low as the branches are kind of low. It would look like a duece or die hole but would play tougher.
Thanks David. I loved playing the long temp hole along the road. I remember seeing some sweet hyzer shots over the oncoming traffic. I'll be bringing some Fox Valley members with me. Can't wait!
There will be two temp holes. The long one playing over the entrance of the park and the shorter one that runs parrallel with the long hole.
The course is looking awesome! It's dried out very nicely. Athough some of the rubber tee pads are not perfectly flat they are in pretty good condition considering this time of year. I plan on going out on Friday to do some course work. That work includes new orange tape on the baskets, orange paint on rocks, and picking up garbage.
I was out at Bevier Park today and it is a awsome course... It was my first time there and did not know you should cross the road after hole 5 and play that part of the course. Tees are still marked for the old 9 hole course and the baskets are marked different, but i worked it out, anyways... i went around about one and a half times. lots of people playing there today, a bit wind out and lots of wind on the course west of McAree Rd. I hope Saturdays nice and may the rain stay away until night.
50 players before the registrations from the past 24 hours. Weather continues to change every time i look at it. So who knows, cant wait for sat. its going to be a good time. I will be arriving at bevier tommorrow between 1-2 to play a round, set up temps, pick up garbage, and other things if you would like to sign up to get the players pack. Thanks again
-Matt

Please, its just confirmation of what we all suspected all along.
Sounds like a fun tournament! I'm looking forward to getting out and playing this year!
is there going to be a store? if so, brands?
The trophies are outrageous! :D I'll be playing something 300 miles closer to home, but its nice to see the good-for-Bevier pre-reg.
I am devistated I could not get out to Bevier to play today. I was really hoping to get some work in Friday as well. Hope you guys had a great time. My day has sucked!
Congrats to Todd Fanning for his Open Win, and Chris Jordan for winning advanced.
Nice job with your first tournament Matt. Went very sooth even with the rain.

Nothing wrong with practicing and getting out to play disc golf. Don't be hatin'.
What's up with par 124? http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9881&year=2010&include_ratings=1#Open
Thanks for running the event Matt. Fun times in outrageous winds.
I assume 11 and 19 were par 4.
nice turnout! that's fantastic to see - even with the rain. Props to Matt to have all of the scores up already.
This is going to be a great year for disc golf :)
Thanks Matt and crew. Great time and hope you do it again!
that wind was brutal on the putting! Great tournament loved the score turn around time!!! very fast, especially after the first round, about 30min and scores were up and cards were being written. keep up the good work.
p.s. it would be nice if you announced/marked on score card what holes had the ctp on them
Good time evenwith the morning rain and afternoon wind.
I didn't compare all the scores but it looked like only 3 Open players shot even or better in the second round...started to feel like the rain should have come back ;D
Great turnaround on uploading scores.
Thanks, again, to Matt and all those involved in putting together this event.
Afternoon everyone, just woke up after sleeping for 14 hours. I had written a post last night but the club site was acting up so it didnt go through. Thanks to everyone that came out yesterday it was a good time and look foward to running more events in the future. Congrats to all the winners. Thankyou to all the people that helped me throughout the day without these people this event would have not been possible:

Scott Talbot YerpNerp.com
Mike. Chavarria
Brett. C
Buddy Lee
Tom. M
Dan. P and his two sons. ABC DISCS
Tracey. S

And to all the players that donated a disc for the second round best score ctp.
Also, I would like for people to email or pm me about future tips that would make the tourney run more smoothly.
Thanks again every for coming and look foward to seeing you all at future tourneys.

Does Matt have the bag tag sheet? That needs to be updated on disc golf scene.
Now that the ratings went official, something looks off with the calculations. Second round was far, far windier than the first and the whole day came out the same.

It appears they changed the way they calculate the official ratings. If the layout is the same for both rounds, I believe they are taking the cumulative of all the rounds for the day to determine the ratings. When I look at other tourneys that went on the ratings with this past update (Sterling, Bevier, Endicott), they also have identical ratings for both rounds.
If this was Chuck Kennedy's decision, it seems like a poor one. Conditions are often different from Round 1 to Round 2 and that should be accounted for.
At the end of the day though, this shouldn't affect your overall player rating. If its really windy in round 2, then your round 1 score will probably end up being artificially higher than it should have been, while the round 2 score will be lower by approximately the same amount.
If the calculated SSA for two different rounds on a layout is within 2, then ratings for multiple rounds will be combined to produce a unified SSA. An enterprising TD can specify that the two rounds are two different layouts if they think that weather was a significant factor between the rounds and want the rounds to be rated separately. But usually, there are more complaints when the ratings for a layout is different between rounds than the other way around.
Yea I'm not really too worried about it, but I was a lot happier with my round 2 score than my round 1 score. My round 1 unofficial was 1007 I believe and round 2 was 1012, so it was odd to see them flip flop by 10-12 points each.
This is what i put on the TD report.
First round: Steady rain with winds between 20-30 mph.
Second round: Sunny with extreme wind conditions between 30-40 mph.
They only occasionally look at that info, but the ratings are all numbers driven.

Mike can you explain what you mean by this?
The decision to combine rounds (or leave them separate) for ratings purposes, is really only driven by the stats. It the average score for the same set of gators is the within two strokes, the rounds will get combined regardless if the TD lists the weather conditions as calm for one round and Katrina for the next. IIRC I don't think the conditions field in the TD report is used unless there is a strange anomaly For example, if the SSA for the two rounds was three or more, they might look at the round condition description to determine if it could be a data entry error or if the course did have radically different conditions that would explain the difference..
The other thing that comes up is that often times the windier round is R2. Typically this would make R2 scores worse, but then there are always a few people that learn a thing or two during R1 and throw better despite more difficult conditions thus evening out the SSA.

which is statistical proof that practicing the course before you play it is always a good idea! i'm talking to you McManus!
So in this specific instance, wouldn't the ratings have been different? Clearly the scores were higher the second round, regardless of learning curve.
Were they more than 2 strokes different? One other thing that factors into the difference between unofficial ratings and official ratings is the number of non-gators. If there are a large number of non-gators, then the unofficial ratings may be skewed as it doesn't know who is a gator and who isn't. If you want specifics for this event, you'll have to go to the ask Chuck thread on the PDGA forum.
I figured as much. I mean I understand the general concepts of the ratings and what not, but the nitty gritty I figured I'd ask someone a little more educated about it.
If I'm looking for a passive-aggressive answer related to my question, I'll be sure to ask Chuck.

...looks like it was roughly 2.5 strokes. At any rate, an *average* of 2 shots' difference for the entire field "not making a difference" seems a little extreme. Seems like it ultimately didn't make much difference as far as average rating for the 2 rounds though
