Jon? will you be at IOS#3 in Oswego next weekend?
Jon, Becky and Maddisen will be at IOS#3.
okay thank you. I will register for IOS#5 at Oswego then.
How many spots left for Saturday. Group of 4 of us looking to come from Oskaloosa, Ia.
JD
plenty of room. Feel free to pre-register at www.paperorplasticsports.com (http://www.paperorplasticsports.com) and secure your spot for the 4 of you! Last year we had 96 or 98 players each day, so I'm expecting that many if not more this year!
Scott, when will see the registration page at pdga.com? And you still have my registration from Oswego, correct?
Doug - we were waiting on the tournament at Adler to complete before starting to focus on registrations for IOS 4/5. I have yours, Bob's, Dave's, and a couple others all for IOS 5 - and those will be uploaded starting sometime this week.
$650 Added to the MPO-Open Division. Last year there were nearly 100 players per day. Come play one of the best courses in Illinois.
http://www.paperorplasticsports.com/tournaments.html
Will there be a pro "half-in" or "trophy only" option for those of us that want to make this a weekend event?
yes, there will be - I just have to update the pre-reg pages.
This is the bag that will be given away from Fade Gear to each of the winners of the 4 AM divisions: Adv, Int, Rec, and Nov.

It's Fade Gear's latest and greatest Limited Edition black bag - "Fly or Die" - looks great!
We are cracking open the Advanced SENIOR Grandmasters division for Sunday play at Sinnissippi - so if you are 60 years+ (turning 60 in 2010) or know someone that fits in that category, tell them to sign up for Advanced Senior Grandmaster! There will be at least 3, if not 4 in that division already!
Current pre-reg has been added.
I plan on making trophies on July 14th. There will be a trophy for every division that has a player preregistered by that date.
Doubles Friday July 16th
6PM
$5
Random Draw
Kris Linscott has volunteered to move pins between each round both days and paint 10 meter (32ft. 10in.) circles around all 18 permanent holes for the open. I will have a course information sheet posted. Mike is going to work on a map.
This is going to be a sweet event!
This is without a doubt my favorite stop on the IOS tour! And it just keeps getting better each year. Brett does an awesome job on making the temp holes fit into the flow of the course while adding some extra fun. One might think that since I haven't been able to play for the last few years because of my back injury that I wouldn't care about the course, but even as a TD I get excited to help run an event at such a great course! I'm glad it's only in two weeks because I can't wait.
See you all there!!!
Just updated the pre-reg pages, 6 for Sat, 12 for Sun so far, I know the numbers will not stop there :)
Early pre-registration is appreciated!

I'm confused; is there trophy-only for Sinnissippi, or am I looking at the wrong pre-reg page?
my quote from June 25th is still true, I just haven't updated the pre-reg pages yet.
Also for those of you that mail in payments for AM divisions - it's only $30. Subtract that extra $5 fee. Apparently a lot of people are missing that...
just a note if you prereg online you only save $2. cost is 33 online

The trophy only price is the same as the price for juniors. If I wanted to sign up online before Scott updates the online registration I would just sign up for juniors and then in the "name" box I'd put "Jon Brakel TO MA3". For pro half-in you'd have to sign up for full fee and then we could refund you $25 at check-in.
Hey all,
Some of you know me as the guy behind FADE Gear, but we also have a family-owned sports store in Sterling called, "Air Play Sports". Stop by and see us if you are in town before the tournament.
www.airplaysports.com (http://www.airplaysports.com) Air Play Sports is donating another $300 to the Pro-Prize package for the IOS #5.
I can tell you that many local players have been out working HARD at course preparation. The additional 6 Temp holes look a little different, but the oft-dreaded 'Cliff Shot' has been groomed and I think you will remember this hole for quite some time. It is really nice, and can be tight for righties.
Additionally, for all you regular players in Sterling, we have added a new pin location (today) for hole #8. It sits straight up to the left at 455 feet, through the old oaks. Weill WILL be changing pin locations between rounds and you will enjoy the challenge.
Don't miss this tournament, even if you come to watch. It is THE last chance to play a competitive round at a GREAT course before WORLDS!
See you HERE!
Tim
There were nearly 100 players each day last year. You can track preregistration this week. Any division will be offered even if it's only 1 person. If you want a trophy for your division and it's not on the tour page prereg by Wednesday. Scott will update the list daily.

I have at least a dozen registrations that are not on the site yet, I'm a little behind - but the list WILL be updated tonight and will continue to be updated as soon as reasonably possible.
Pre-Reg lists are updated. 26 Sat and 35 Sun so far. I know those numbers are going to go up :)

Can't wait! Finally signed up today..
Thanks for signing up, Dana :) I currently have at least 7 at the time of typing waiting to be added to the lists.
In the sad news department (for some it's good news), there will be no custom stamped discs for this tournament. But as a consolation prize I will have over 500 new Innova discs as well as some new Discraft - including, hopefully, the tasty First Run Z-Nuke! I also ordered a small amount of Discraft apparel for those Discraft enthusiasts. Hopefully they sent me everything because it includes some dry-fit polos and visors too.
Don't forget, we accept paper or plastic for method of payment (bah dum, tschhhhh! (http://www.instantrimshot.com)) *groan* :)
Attached is the course info sheet and map.

It is possible to get to the path on 9C and 9D. Will it be OB?

Same question on hole 1.
No path OB on #1.
I think you have a different hole in mind on the 9C and 9D. Maybe #3? No path ob there.
I know some players managed to find the path on the alt holes that run westward between the drive and the walking path. I'm sure last year that some players on 9C took an OB penalty on the left after a kick off the trees.
They did the last time I played an IOS there, which I presume was last year.

Gotcha, I thought you meant on the Hole #9 C placement.
B the path is OB deep of pin.
E the path is OB left.
Path is not out of bounds on the others. It probably should be but it's too late to add it.
..will there be a food vendor there this year?
Will tournament central be at the same shelter, the one close to #17 basket?
Shelters are first come, first served. Last year we were at different shelters on Saturday and Sunday.

Yes, Tim from Fadegear will be cooking food both days again this year!
There will be some drinks for sale as well. All of the money from the food sales last year went towards course improvements, I would expect more of the same this year.
This is the last chance to preregister and get a trophy for your divison. Here are the current trophies that are going to be made.

Thanks! Mike Krupicka did an awesome job on the map. Him and Scott are really good with that stuff. There is a huge team working together to make this event a great one.
I wish I could be there. If you have not played Sinnissippee, it is worth the drive from Chicago. It is a city park with lots of cut grass, mature trees, small hills, and very little else going on in the park besides disc golf and picnics in the pavillions.
Will there be a trophy for Advanced Grandmasters? Just curious...

Right on the mighty Rock River! Some really nice scenic views on those sick temp holes while your enjoying your round.

Yes. It's on Brett's shopping list.
There will be a trophy for Adv Grand Master. Brett made it. He just forgot to list it.
Thanks for the quick response everyone! Thought it was an error. Could use a newer trophy...and newer knees, back, and feet! Looking forward to a great course! Not looking forward to the long drive, but gotta do what I gotta do. Thanks again! B)
Hey Scott, I just signed my wife up on your paper or plastic site (Stacy Tackett) but couldn't find int women. I signed her up in rec but can you put her in int please. She was considering playing trophy only open women. Any pro women coming? Also, the course is looking beautiful. It's gonna be a great weekend. The new hole 8 is pretty sweet. The cliff hole looks dramatically different. Some of the locals spent hours grooming the fairway. At first glance it may appear easier but it's still gonna be a tricky hole. Can't wait!
Last time I checked we have no pro women signed up. In the pro field we aren't doing trophy only, we're doing half-in. Similar concept. Pay half the price but if you cash you get half your payout and the rest of the payout bumps up. Ams can take prizes instead of cash. If you're an Am playing pro and intend on taking prizes and it is likely that you'll finish in a cashing position, please let me know before awards if possible. It's an accounting thing with Pitner that I have to take care of and it helps if I can do it before awards.
If you're looking for a place to stay, I recommend the Country Inn and Suites in Rock Falls. Nice rooms, indoor pool, and free breakfast. If you do stay there or know someone who is, please let me know. I'd like to see if I can work a discount deal for the Sinnissippi open players for next year.
The weather forecast for the weekend is looking great. I like it hot! There is a ton of shade at Sinnissippi. Trophies are on the press ready to pick up this afternoon. There is a small army that has helped put this event together and it's going to be a great one. See you at Friday doubles at 6pm. I'll be at the course Friday late afternoon if anyone wants to register there.
This course is a beauty. For sure in my Top 3 Illinois Courses. Haven't seen some of the new placements for some of the holes, but it's Sinnisippi, it's going to be a great tournament for sure. Going to do alot better than what I did in the spring opener.
Can't wait to see my buddy Dave Nelson as well.

Thanks Jon. Sounds like she'll be content to play int women division. Thanks to all you guys for always running great tournaments and going the extra mile to promote, provide maps, set up awesome temp holes, etc, etc, etc. The I.O.S. series is always a pleasure to take part in.
It's proably too late, but...
For the Spring Opener, Scott had a drop zone for any OB shots on hole E (da Cliff hole). It was maybe 80 -100 ft. back by the where the paths join on the left. I thought it was a great idea as it turned a frequent 10 foot cirlcle 3 putt in to a much harder approach with a greater liklihood of a four. Just an idea.
Looking forward to all these different pin placements. Thanks everyone.
I'll make sure that Stacy is added to INT Women.
I'll talk to Brett about the drop zone - I don't see it on the course routing, thought that it was going to be there, will confirm before printing :)
Thanks Scott.
I'm planning on playing in this tournament. It is my first tournament minus one I participated in college. What divisions are available for women? I see some posts for int. women but think for my first I should start lower. Any suggestions on what I should register for? And what day would it be then? Can i register on site also, or should i go online. I don't have a PDGA # yet so i don't know of that is a problem. Thanks!!!

I think we have another Rec woman playing so feel free to register for that. Online will guarantee a spot. All the women's divisions play on Sunday. If you sign up online sign up for Recreational and in the comments enter that you will be playing in the women's Rec division.
Just registered! I'm looking forward to it! Thanks a lot!

Awesome!
While packing the car tonight I found a trophy from the IOS #2 A-Tier. Had I not forgot about it I would have taken it to the trophy shop to have the name plate changed. Currently is is labeled but not professionally. I donated a CFR Destroyer to the front. The trophy will be going to the MPO-Open Champion. Check out the pic at the facebook event page.

For the life of me, I am looking everywhere I can think of, but can't find a start time. I'm riding up with someone who needs plenty of time to get his body moving in the morning, and we want to make sure of when check-in is, and what time players meeting is. Where can I find this information?
You think we'd have that info somewhere easy to find:
REGISTRATION/CHECK-IN:
7:45-8:45 AM, Players Meeting: 9:15 AM, Tee Time shortly thereafter. There will be a 1 hour break for lunch. If you do not check in by the appointed time, there is a possibility that your spot will be given up to another player!

thanks for pointing that out Jake. I did get your pre-reg, not sure how I didn't enter it on the spreadsheet. It will go up with the next update. I have about 6 or 7 so far that I need to add.
ONLINE PRE-REG CLOSES AT 8 PM CENTRAL TIME TONIGHT!!! You can also sign up at doubles tonight for the pre-reg price. Walk-ups will be accepted.
:D
If you're thinking of playing Pro Masters on Sunday, don't be shy! Pre-reg only says 1 right now, but I just received 2 more, so there's at least a group of 3 playing sunday. Feel free to sign up!
Scott, Would it be possible for me to register a little bit late?
just wanted to let someone know that Saturday shows 4 Advanced players, with me being one of them. I know Advanced plays Sunday. Just wanted to let you guys know of the mistake.
Doug - not sure what you're seeing, I do not see that.
Grayson - go ahead, and I'll shut it down after I get it, or 10pm, whichever comes first. They might not have a pre-reg card made for you, but I'll make sure they know you signed up once I get it.
Doug is seeing three or four Advanced players and an Am4 in the Open pro pool and is questioning whether any of them signed up to play Open. Given the half-in maybe some of them did, but Doug seems to be implying that he did not.
actually I looked at Sunday, then thought I looked at Saturday, but actually it was Saturday the 24th, Illinois St. Championships I looked at. Sorry. 1 to many Bud Lights tonight.
Ill be there tomorrow for nov. Couldnt pre-reg but will be there early in the morning. Thanks
It looks like we have three of us coming up on Sunday for the Sinnissippi Open from the STL area. Can't wait!!! Absolutely love the course in Sterling, been a couple of years since I've seen it.
One question I had was, I saw on here somewhere that winners of several divisions would win a Fade bag, is the Advanced age-protected divisions also included in that?? Just curious.......
See you all on Sunday!!! ---- ;D
The Fade gear prize is for the "big 4": Advanced, Intermediate, Recreational, Novice.
as a consolation prize, I will have those bags available for sale.
No internet access at the course today?
So few courses have wi fi hot spots! ;D
Scores are up! I think Chris Heeren's second round today was hotter than the weather!!! Might be the highest rated round at any IOS.

I think brett 2nd round at lombard in 08 was a couple points higher not much though
He must have given himself a little pep talk on the lunch hour! ;D
It should get two points higher when Chuck Kennedy is done with it.
I know Chris likes open courses where you can screw up your drive and save the bird with a 50 foot putt. He was telling me that at Mokena.
I forgot about that round that Brett had. I told Chris after he turned in his score card that he needed to play ALL the holes! And he replied "What, I played 18!"
great event once again. Everything ran smooth the 1st round. Few more backups in round 2 but thats gonna happen at times.
Great new pin placements on some holes I have never seen before. Course was excellent.
Great job Brett, Jon, Mike and all the other helpers. A BIG Thanks to Tim from Fade Gear as well.
Hope to see everyone at Jericho Lake for #7 on the stop.
Scores and ratings are up from today. Thanks for playing! Sleep now...

I'm very appreciative to the home town guys in Sterling that did a great job on the course and for welcoming the IOS crew in to run an event. Also, I'm much appreciative to the IOS crew who gave up their weekend/time to run a rock solid tournament away from home. As if running an event on your home turf wasn't time consuming/difficult enough, running it away from home is much more difficult. So, thanks again to all of you.
Scott- your merch selection and prices are top notch, I always love rummaging through your discs and stuff.
One more thing I wanted to mention- IOS has always been known for treating the Am's ridiculously good, but now on top of that you guys have been running some big $ events that cater to the pro side as well. It is much appreciated! $600 is huge for a B-tier!
The only thing that could have made the event better would have been a little Tom McManus! Missed seeing him Saturday.
First of all - thank you to Discontinuum, the IOS crew and the Sterling/Rock Falls disc golf community for running a great pair of events this weekend. I loved the course (it's now probably one of my favorite two or three courses in the state) and everything ran pretty pretty smoothly. I also LOVED the Fade Gear bag I got for winning Intermediate, so a big thank you to Tim as well.
But I'm also here with a question -
How does a guy who wins Novice by 12 strokes on the first day of the weekend, with rounds that had an average round rating of 941 that would have tied him for the win in Intermediate, get to play in the Recreational division the next day and then win that division too? His scores on Sunday were even better (factoring in the wind), were rated an average of 950, and allowed him to win Rec by 8 strokes. In fact, he would have cashed in Advanced with those scores.
I understand that a guy can walk off the street, tell everyone "I'm a Novice" because he has no rating yet and then crush everyone. But the next tournament that guy plays, he should be forced to play in a division that matches his skill level, even he doesn't have any official ratings yet. I don't mean any disrespect to the guy who did this - he shot well and should feel good about that - and I don't want to start any mudslinging. But I have been noticing more and more of this kind of behavior this year and I'm curious to see if anything can be done to prevent it. And I know Bruce does a LOT of work with Chuck Kennedy to look at ratings and such, so I'd love to hear his opinion on this. :)
Don't worry, I don't think Mike will be allowed to play Novice/Recreational in the future IOS events. This was his first tournament and he was not sure where he should be playing. He's never even attended a tournament, so he really did not know what to expect in each division. Not to mention he's never played at Sinnissippi before. He plays mostly open 9 hole courses here near Chicago so it's hard to tell where his skill level is at. His good friend Matt Buttliere did not shoot nearly as well at Sinnissippi, but when they play together around here they usually score about the same.
On the way back in the car Mike did say that he will be playing Advanced in the future IOS events, but we talked him into trying out Intermediate first since there is some great competition there as well and not all courses favor his playing style like Sinnissippi does.
I would be happy to address the issue.
The Illinois Open Series is one of the few tournament series in the country that generates ratings on non-PDGA members to ensure fair play. We call these ELF ratings. The process requires, of course, that the non-member has actually played prior tournaments in our area. The player in question does not appear on our ELF list probably for the reason Roman indicated.
In the past we have not generated ELF ratings from day 1 of a tournament to apply to day 2. We have updated the ELF ratings on pretty much the same schedule as the PDGA using pretty much the same criteria. If the player in question had been an unrated PDGA member, he would have had a PDGA right to play Recreational even though he performed very well in Novice the day before. We have tried to apply the same criteria as the PDGA would, because that is objectively fair.
For the next IOS he will probably be limited to the Advanced and Professional divisions for which he is qualified by age and gender, but I'm not sure how the elves work with known data that has not hit the PDGA ratings yet. That will untimately be an issue for the TD of the next IOS.
Many thanks to the Elves. We have always allowed them to be as anonymous as they might want to be, so that they would not have to take flack for simply crunching the numbers. But their services have been invaluable and are much appreciated.
Being a lifetime Rec rated player I think I can truly relate to these problems. My Rec rating is a big reason why the IOS started trying to protect the lower divisions from non-pdga rated players. However, if you are a player that plays in a ratings protected division you have to realize that there will always be guys who are good that are playing their first tournament or are quickly improving. A few years ago I won the IOS overall in the recreational division. I did not place in first in Rec in any single event that year! There were always guys "playing through" on their way up.
I think we should publish a short list of non-PDGA members that need to move up for the next IOS tournament. I think we did this in the past and its a good way to spread the word that some people will have to move up. The list shouldn't be considered punishment but rather a graduation of sorts. Mike should feel good that he came to his first tournament weekend and tore up the amateur fields!
Wow! What a weekend of disc golf.
$5 draw random doubles kicked off the weekend. 20 players signed up. Nick/Dan and Pat/Dan both shot a 45 to tie. Nick and Dan won the playoff and 1st place cash. The Ripper won the Innova CTP that DISContinuum donated. It included an Innova hat, t-shirt, flag, towel, mini, & sticker.
I want to thank everyone who made this event happen. There were a TON of people who contributed to make this a very fun event. There were at least 30 individuals who pitched in. I apologize if I missed you. We are trying to bring this event back to the level it once was. I think it's headed in the right direction.
