I am planning on both PRO and ADV playing both rounds from the longs. There will, however, be a few holes played from the shorts due to the new layout of the longs and some fairways still need to be cleard properly for them to be playable. Most notably #8 which will be played from the original long and hole #14 where it will be played from the short tee.

Here is the issue i've seen from running events and many volunteers running DISContinuum tags.  When running both rounds it takes some patience to get to the leader board. By the time you are finished half the people have bolted and don't have their tag. When there were 5 to 10 people there wasn't much of an issue. Over the past few years there have been 20 to 40 tags in the box which make it very difficult to do. I would have no problem with 1st round tags then let people on each card play for tags.

When i was up in Wisconsin playing tourneys, all they ever did was that you had the challenge against those on your card with a bag tag. It was simple, and there was no wait after any rounds to get all of the scores in. At the most all you ever had were 4 people to switch tags with. Especially at an event with 30-40 people with tags.

Bring your coffee mug as Starbucks will be providing free coffee to everybody all day long at this event to help with those cold spring mornings!

I will volunteer to do the 1st round then. All tags go in though, not just on your card. This way by the start of the 2nd round everyone will have new tags, then if they want to do a 2nd round on their own, they can.

All the longs have crushed stone on them, except for hole 8 where I believe Aaron is planning on using the old long tee location (about 40 ft east of the stone long tee). Hole 12 will also be using a different long tee location as the required brush clearing for long 12 has not yet been done by the park district.

It is actually hole #14 that needs the clearing not #12. We will be using the concrete tee on that one for all rounds.

just make sure you buy golf cleats,  or if you have football cleats you cut them down,  or you can and will tear your ACL, and lat min.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

After hearing the weather report for the week, getting out to the course and seeing the conditions and knowinf how much the warmer weather will effect the course the format for the tournament will be as follows:

1st round everyone will play longs
2nd round everyone will play shorts.

The crushed limestone tees for the longs are below grade for the most part and with the thaw coming will be extremely sloppy, if not under water. Hopefully, by playing from the first round we can finish before the sun heats up the course too much. I believe that 2 rounds from those tees will do more damage than good when the PD has been nice enough to get those tees in before the freeze last winter. If you would like to see those limestone tees become concrete, there is a $5 50/50 CTP to help raise funds to make this happen!

the shorts are fine (concrete) - I guess the longs (limestone right now) are pretty sloppy - only time will tell I guess.

Who ever said that there is no reason to join a disc golf club? Thanks to Discontinuum, The First Rites of Spring will have 6 rubber fly pads to help alleviate the effects of the spring thaw.
The holes that will be affected will be hole 1, 3, 4, 15, 16, and 17/18.
These will have the fly pads installed with the teepad for 17 and 18 becoming 1 tee pad for both holes.
This should help to make the tee areas not only much more playable, but safe as well.

Thanks again Discontinuum for once again helping to promote the sport!!!

So since so many things have changed about the layout, format and whatnot, here are a few more things to be aware of for this weekend:

OB

hole 1)  on/ over the tracks
hole 2) on/ over the tracks
hole 3) over the fence
hole 4) over the fence, where the fence ends, the curb is ob line (there are flags from fence line to curb denoting OB line)
hole 16) on/ over path
temp hole A (if needed) on over path to the right

MANDOS
hole 6) must throw to the right of the tree with the yellow ribbon (drop zone to the right of the tree marked by flags)
hole 17) must throw to the right of the tree (drop zone to the right of the tree marked by flags)

Hole 6 mando was added due to tree trimming creating a path that goes in a direct line with long tee for hole seven (safety issue)

just shot the course to day,  tom me and one other cleared all the snow and water off most of the tees,    holes 1,3,4 should not need the rubber tee pads,   and with the thaw do you,  think it would be a good idea to use them rubber tees.  with as wet and muddy as it is, they might be slippery, more so then the limestone,   i had no problem at all with the tees as they are now.

Thank you, that is good to know. I will have the fly pads as a back up anyways even if they are not needed. It would be nice to be able to keep 17 and 18's tees seperate as well.

Hopefully the sun and wind will help to dry out the course a bit more before Saturday as well.

Hey have you thought about moving that mando on 17 to the tree that is to the left of the cement/short tee?  For 1 thing, it is difficult to see if discs make the mando where it currently is.  Also, moving the mando will still keep people going the intended route.

I was out at Eagle Ridge today... for the first and thought it was a great course and lay out, a bit tight, meaning 18 holes right there in a small area. But it works. The weather was great and the turn out of people to throw some plastic before Saturday was big. The course wasn't to bad. The long tees were a bit soggy and will be beat up first round. The course should dry up a bit more by the time Saturday gets here, so it might not be to bad.

At this time of year, the mando on 17 is still easily seen from the long tee.

Post by: pickax on March 04, 2010, 07:36:12 PM
While I recognize the difficulty of determining if the mando is missed/made when everything leafs out, it tightens up the line quite a bit and does make a difference in the scoring distribution from the longs.

Results are up http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9988 (http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9988)

Just want to thank everyone for showing up to my first tourney! When I picked the beginning of March I knew it was gonna be a hit or miss date with the weather. I had planned on maybe 50-60 players, but when all was said and done 91 disc golfers came out to play for the day! I guess the itch was on. the weather was great and so was the company, so thank all of you once again for coming out!
I had a blast and cannot wait to throw my next one. I know there were a few bumps in the road, but as they say hindsight is 20/20, so some lessons were learned for next time. If anyone has any constructive criticism, I would love to hear it . I know I cannot think of everything, and I want to provide you with the best tournaments I can, so please let me know.

There are a lot of people I want to thank as well for making this happen: Dave Y for having the plastic for the day, Starbucks for the coffee, Gorilla Boy for the coupons, ABC Discs and Dan Pastore for the minis, Discontinuum for the fly pads, Tom M. for hauling them, Scott Pitner for the basket and leader board, Fox Valley for the basket and leader board,Mike K. for running the leader boards,  Jon Boster for taking registrations, all of those that helped set up/ and tear down, those that helped with adding scores and making up scorecards, those that handed out bag tags for the day, and anyone else I may have missed.

I do have a few tags that people left from some different clubs. If you did not get your tag or left before they were handed out, let me know I may have it.

Payne won ADV
Aaron Scott/TD won INT

feels awesome to win the 1st tournament of the year. A bogey free 2nd round, and a spike hyzer ACE that slipped thru the chains on mando #17 from 2nd place guy, that won it for me.( that mando was hard to see from PRO tee Dana) Congrats on your finish as well.

Thanks again for running the event, Aaron.  If you haven't sent the check yet, just keep the $10 for the cement fund.

Any you will have this submitted in time for the March update?  I think the deadline is sometime this week.

Dana, check was sent the other day, I did not check here before sending. And, yes, it will be in for the ratings update. I got everything in on Monday.
