Mike Krupicka is the official scorekeeper for this event.  Here is the way the event will be scored:

Challenge Scoring

A team will get points equal to the place that their players finish
(even if tied). Ties will consume places (ie. if there is a two way
tie for 1st, the next place finisher is 3rd). Only the top N players
will count for their team score. The next 3 finishing players on a
team will consume finishing places (i.e. bump down the place finish
for other players), but not count towards the team score. If a team
has an insufficient number of players, they will be awarded points
for a last place finish for those missing players.

Each round will be scored independently.

Since we have two divisions, the scores for each division will be
tallied separately and then combined. Since we want the results of
the upper division to have a larger affect on the outcome. The
totals for each division will be multiplied by a normalization
factor. This normalization factor is determined based on the number
of players counting and will be set so that the upper division
compared to the lower division is around a 5:4 ratio. This is along
the lines of the point factor difference used by the PDGA.

There is a flyer attached in the previous post. There will be a 50/50, an ace fund, and some club CTPs. This is a free event and a get together to promote disc golf in Northern Illinois.

Greetings,

I sent an e-mail to pre-register the GRABM team for the club challenge for this coming weekend.  I haven't received conformation yet so I was wondering if we were in.  Leave a message on our website at grabmdiscgolf.com or e-mail me at silvertip64@gmail.com if there are any problems.  Thank you.

Thanks for the conformation & invite.  I have a roster but we need a couple of verifications before we submit it.  I have added the information you requested to the roster (PDGA #'s, player ratings, etc.) to save you time.  You'll have it within 2 days.

                                                                                                                                       Barry Maxwell

Should we limit the number of players per team?

I see alot of players with out PDGA #'s.  Do they play upper level?  It says Mike K has the final decision but with out Mike knowing how every player plays how can he make a decision?  It seems to me that it would be a real tough decision since there are players from multiple clubs and alot of new faces....

Most of the non-member players are from FVM, fortunately there are a lot of posted rounds for these players. Looking at their tag rounds, they are definitely lower division. Of the original four clubs, there is only one player that I don't have a rating for. I haven't seen GRABM's roster yet.

We've had some late changes on our GRABM roster so it will be Friday before I get it to you.  I have taken the time to look up player ratings & last round ratings for those not PDGA current to save you some work.

I have e-mailed the GRABM roster to Tom & sent Mike a copy as a personal message.  Sorry for the delay, we had to scramble.

so what happened? who won what?

Streamwood Disc Golfers Union took home the title for the second year in a row.  We had a great turnout of 112 people.  Thanks to all the northern Illinois disc golfers who came out to support and celebrate disc golf.

Special thanks to the following people:

Mike Krupicka- Great job with the scoring.
Rich Rudzena- Setting up the four temp holes and for supplying the after tourney pizza.
Brett Comincioli for keeping it together.
Stan K, Mike C, Steve J for helping out today and to the others who helped out with scores.
Thanks to the team captains: Brett, Tony B, Dean B, Barry M, and Aaron.  There was some logistical issues regarding this event but thanks to the team captains we were able to make this event happen.
It was great to see GRABM and J-Town become part of this event.

Thanks to all the disc golfers who came out to play today.

Please let me know if what I heard through the grapevine is correct...a local disc golfer called the police so that the club challenge could not take place where it was originally planned?  Who ever heard of a disc golfer calling the police because disc golfers were going to come throw at a course?

It is a very odd situation and it's unbelievable to me the lengths at which these people have gone to prevent people from getting together to play disc golf. The police were not notified but the park officials were. I had my idea of who it was so I sent out a general e-mail addressed to the Chicagoland player base to one person on Friday. That was confirmed when the park official contacted me Saturday about the e-mail I sent out.

This has been a very informal challenge over the past few years and it continues to grow each year. Next year we will be at a different venue and we'll have to treat this like an event. Unfortunately that will probably lead to a permit and course use fee, insurance, etc.. and those costs will be passed on to the clubs or players. Can't we just play disc golf  ???

Team results:

After the first round, Jtown had the early lead with Discontinuum and the Streamwood team close on their heels. GRABM and Fox Valley Metro rounded out the competition being in fourth and fifth respectively. Fox Valley Metro had the largest team improvement from first to second round, but it was the marked improvement of the players in the lower pool for the Streamwood Disc Golfer's Union that allowed them to pull ahead and win the club challenge for the second year in a row. Congratulations guys.

Top 8 Lower positions + Top 5 Upper positions multiplied by 3 = Team Score

Thanks for making room for us.  I had a blast!  I WILL be in the ace fund next time.

Let's stay in touch about our discussion about the location of next year's event.  Personally I like the outlaw format.
