Hello fellow Discers! I'll be moving to Chicago in August and wanted to get some info on the good courses round the area. I'll be going to UIC downtown and noticed on the map there isnt really much right around there (especially when my only transportation is a bike...) But as for me, throw a complete bag of Discraft with the exception of a innova putter for chaining. Looking to play some leagues and maybe some am tournaments. I'm down with the drop in doubles format! But as of now Im living in Beijing doing an internship and being deprived of the beauty of disc golf...No courses in this damn country! Still brought my discs and get out to a field every once in a while.....but its just not the same feeling as hucking on a beautiful course. You're going to want to check out the courses closest to the Metra train stations because you won't be near any courses. Check out taking your bike on Metra so you can bike to the course once you get there. Google chicago metra and you'll find a Metra map. You can compare that to where the courses are and figure out how far you are willing to bike once you get off the train (if you can bring your bike).
New Lenox - Haines Wayside Park, Mokena - The Oaks, and Lombard Commons are all within walking distance from Metra stops. The first two are on the Rock Island line, Lombard is on the Union Pacific West.
Finally moved here about a month ago and again have been deprived of disc golf. Living up in Buena PArk without a car makes it difficult to get out to these courses. I played IIT the other day and didnt really care for it. Are there any leagues going on still that I could get invovled in? Maybe catch a ride or something out to some of these courses ?
buena park is on the northside right? if you want to waste your money edgebrook is close by. use the metra trains, alot of courses in every direction are short bike rides from a station. Use the google maps feature for public transportation. its pretty accurate on times.
or somehow find a job and save up for a beater over the winter and enjoy your disc golfing next spring... :)
yea northside. I was thinking getting out to edgebrook but its not really worth it? seeems kinda expensive. do u recommend certain courses close to the area that would actually be worth the hour+ to get there?

I enjoy getting out to Edgebrook once a year. I think the fee is worth it with the cart. It's a different kind of disc golf. If you like to throw drives this is a very fun place. It's also a great place to learn how to throw a roller.

Google will give you the option to get directions via public transit or just walking.
All of the courses in the northern suburbs are not really "worth it" if you have to travel more than an hour which will happen if you are bound by metra's schedule. Adler Park in Libetyville is a long walk or a short bike ride from the metra station.
Also, you should be able to find other city dwellers who travel to the burbs on a regular basis over at www.dgcoursereview.com
