I know one guy that I will not be voting for. I will have to look at the other candidates to see what platform they are running on. The one person that I won't vote for played at an IOS event a few years ago and whined like a baby the entire time.
Be sure to vote for Brett you never know when someone will try and get into office on write in ballots.
Based on the way Feldberg has been acting on the board, I'm extremely hesitant to put any more touring pros on the BOD. Reading the BOD minutes is very enlightening.
My current leanings are:
Dave Nesbitt
Jack Lowe
Theo Pozzy
I'm definitely not voting for Avery Jenkins.
I am 100% voting for Cale Leiviska. He plays quite a few local events along with some other northern WI events He comes from a huge disc golf scene in the Twin Cities and is well respected.
Of the other 4 I need to spend a little more time deciding.
I think we should give the farm to the pigs and let them run the farm for the benefit of the pigs. Not only that, I have no doubt that we will give the farm to the pigs and let them run the farm for the benefit of the pigs. The vote has always been a popularity contest and the touring pigs are the most popular animals in the barn.
If anybody cared about the results, here are the winning three (with # of votes):
2228 Avery Jenkins
1732 Dave Nesbitt
1532 Cale Leiviska
The 3 that did NOT win:
1323 Theo Pozzy
1254 Jack Lowe
404 Michael Purkis
Brett had the 2nd most votes (behind Michigan) for state coordinator that was running unopposed with 99 to 6 write-ins. Congrats Brett!
Reading through the 2010 meeting minutes, I think there is a place to have 1 top touring pro on the BOD to give perspective and speak the voice of the touring pros (not sure if Feldberg is the best man for this job as he seems a little more concerned with how things affect him rather than how they affect his fellow players). I don't think its a great idea to have Dave, Avery, and Cale all on there. Are Dave and Avery going to be bringing anything different to the table, or are they really just 1 voice with 2 votes?
There are many other topics that are discussed other than the things Feldberg clearly shows most interest in (NT, money, ratings) where it would be more valuable to have discgolfers with a variety of backgrounds other than Touring Pro (such as Ams, Disc Golf promoters/businessmen, long-time TD's, etc..). For example, Jack Lowe may have been a valuable addition with his experience as a Worlds TD. Unfortunately, Bruce is right, its a popularity contest. Many voters are just voting for the names they recognize. Having been around Avery at tournaments, its hard to seem him really contributing much to the process. I see him as Feldberg's sidekick.
Dan, well said.
Im glad to see Cale on there. Reading his "reason to elect", he seemed to share similar feelings i do about the way the BOD works. i totally agree with you about avery and feldberg. especially with dave's "ME" attitude. im also glad Theo is off the board, nice guy and all but he hasnt really done anything in his time to promote the sport in what i view as the right direction. its too bad lowe isnt up there, he had some good ideas as well.
as for the popularity contest, i dont necessarily think it is the main reason. part of it may just be people who are fed up with what the previous BOD members have "not" done. i wouldn't be surprised if people voted for people that they knew their name and knew they werent on the board previously.
