To the best of my knowledge we have only awarded an overall trophy to the wrong person once but it is always a fear of mine. It's why I always say that all decisions are final before we start handing them out! We don't have power at Fairfield so we can't do it by computer so it gets kind of tricky. My suggestion to the rest of the IOS crew is to do the overalls at the first IOS of 2011. We won't necessarily go with the majority vote here. I'm more interested in your feedback, but everyone loves a poll, right?  ;D

Is there a minimum number of events necessary to win the overall? IOS #2 obviously will have a big impact on the whole series.

and how many trophies per division?

We are not pre-announcing how many trophies per division this year. It will be based on participation numbers per division and on how much money we raise for overalls.

I like the idea of a minimum number of events so I think the IOS crew will have a meeting on that at Sinnissippi. It would be strange to give an overall award to someone who only played Illiana. We had talked about minimum participation from a division but per person is also a good idea. I think a division should be represented in at least 5 events and any winner should participate in at least 3 legs. How does that sound?

This is what is in the main IOS thread:
QuoteOverall points will be calculated from best 5 of 9 events. Players must play in a minimum of four events to be considered competing for series points. The A-tier (IOS #2) will be worth double points.
At Sinnissippi, the IOS crew will verify if this is what we are doing.

Thanks Mike, I missed that line when I was reading it.

what was the verification?  Is it must play  4 or 5? Or is it your best 5 scores of the 9?

Thanks

Must play a minimum of 4 events to be considered playing the series. Best 5 tournaments will be used.

by looking at the updated overall standings(thanks again Tyler) does anyone know if there will be 3 trophies for the advanced divsion? dont need to make the almost 4 hour drive if only trophies for 1st and 2nd. Thanks

I won Novice 3rd place last year with only 4 events in the IOS series, so I would think that there's a very good chance that there will be at least a 3rd place in all of the big divisions if not more.  I'd have to confirm this with the other IOS TD's though.

My honest opinion Doug, you should come if you want to play the Fairfield tournament.  Its usually a well-attended event, on an admittedly average course.  Don't drive 8 hours roundtrip if you aren't interested in the tournament, just the overall trophy.  IOS overalls are a cool side-feature of the series, but I don't think most players pay nearly as much attention to who wins the overalls compared to who wins the individual events.  Just my opinion.

I understand that Dan. Been wanting to get to Fairfield, but the solo drive is what has stopped me in the past.
I know the overall don't mean much to you and others, but I can't seem to win a individual event of an IOS, but to play them well enough to get an overall trophy, to me is an accomplishment that took work over the entire series. Not just having a great event at #2 Lemon Lake, and being in the top 5.

What is the course comparable to?  It would be nice to go beat Diabetic on his home course though.  ;)
