The Fox Valley Metro Disc Golf Club hereby challenges DISContinuum to a team tournament at Eagle Ridge in Oswego. This tournament will take place the first weekend in November, Saturday OR Sunday, whichever date works for both teams. Format will be match play, the first round singles with each match worth one point and the second round best shot doubles with each match worth two points. If points are tied after two rounds, a sudden death doubles playoff decides the winner.
Please reply to this post or send me a message if you are interested in captain-ing the DISContinuum team. If there isn't enought interest, then we won't hold the event.
This will be similar to Fox Valley Metro's event last year against the Streamwood Disc Golf Union. The singles round will be played from the short tees and the doubles round will be played from the long tees. Players meeting & match-ups will be at 9AM with tee off about 30 minutes later.
Each team will include six to twelve club members, if one team brings less than twelve, then that lower number will be the number of players participating in the points from each team. Each teams' roster is limited to twelve participants, with no roster changes for the day. However, a team with more players could "bench" some members from their roster for one round and play them the next to facilitate better match ups. $5 entry fee for each golfer, victorious team takes all the winnings.
The match-ups will be determined by the captains for each team. To start, FVM (the home team) will pick who from our club will be in the first pairing, then DISContinuum will select one of their golfers to go against ours. The second pairing starts with DISContinuum picking one of their golfers, then FVM selects someone to play them, etc. Doubles would be determined the same way.
As the host club, Fox Valley Metro will be providing a meal between rounds, either food brought by individuals (grilling, chili, etc.) or I will order some pizza & bring sodas.

Tyler, I am up for ths. Hopefully we can get together a team.
I vote for Saturday
No Union invite?
This is a head to head match. Last year it was just between FVM and SDGU. This year FVM challenged Discontinuum.
...if it's 'match play', does that mean best score wins head-to-head, or the # of 'holes won'?

Best score wins head-to-head, ties split the points.
I would also play saturday. Who is forming the discontinuum team?
I would be interested in playing one of the exhibition matches that don't count. If Discontinuum has to rely on me they better fold up the tent and leave. In any case, it sounds like fun and I would like to play.
Both Jackson boys would be interested in playing for DISContinuum if needed. If there are better options, by all means go with those.
i am also down to play for discontinuum doesnt matter what day for me. c.jordan
I will see if we can get together a team when I see people this weekend at Round Lake.
 ;D whats the good word on the challenge? i would b interested in playn if the day was right and of course if youd want my services thx
I'd love to play either day if my services would be deemed worthy....
Has the date been decided yet? I may play.

Haven't heard any request for Sunday, so we make it Saturday November 6th at Eagle Ridge.
Tom, do you have a roster yet?
I prefer Saturday because I want to hit up the doubles event at Lemon Lake on Sunday.
im down for playing on the discontinuum team. day and time aren't important
so is this happening then?
What is the team?
This event is currently planned for the 6th, but we only have DISContinuum members posting that they're interested in playing, not an official roster. The roster needs to be set ASAP to lock in this event, so McManus should establish it and post it this week.
Long term weather forecast looks good, no notable chance for rain between now & then, partly cloudy in the upper 50's.
I plan on playing unless the weather sucks.
i want to play
Anyone who has said to this is on the roster unless I hear otherwise.
i want to play let me know

Looks like the updated roster. Let's go dominate!
Is it likely we will get matched against someone with the same relative skill level?

Look at the original post and it explains the format.
Using that format, it is likely you'd be playing someone about your skill level. But if the teams are not evenly matched, a smart captain might throw away one or two matches in order to get better match ups in the remaining matches. In the u-pick/i-pick format, there's a lot of game to be played just in picking the match opponents.

Given the ratings distributions of both teams I would expect not to play but if Discontinuum were forced to play me it may be advantageous to match me with Fox Valley's highest rated player. I would not likely have much better of a chance against an 880 player as I would against a 950 player. Its still only one match.I frequently play against an 880 player and you would think that statistically I would win once in a while.. It has not happened yet.
That's certainly one scenario where you throw a match: if your worst player is going to lose to anyone on their team, he might as well lose to their best. Similarly, if they have Nikko on their team, who will probably beat your best player, why waste your best player?
This would be a fun game to play with 20-sided dice and fantasy teams.
That makes sense, thanks for clarifying and providing a bit of strategy for me.
sorry guys wifey just informed me that I have a wedding to go to sorry i can't make it out beat some fox valley a$$ for me

FVMDGC VS. Discontinuum
Thanks to Mr. Tyler Williams for pulling this Meeting of the Club's together. This event continues to be a great platform for bringing the Clubs together. Looking forward to this weekends event and support Tyler's effort's. Thanks to Tom for bringing the northerners down south to the Valley. Looking forward to seeing all your faces. Club Metro.
Schepp's are looking forward to hosting our friends from the North. We will be painting and grilling for the event. Very excited about bringing two more Clubs together for one cause. Appreciate and welcome Club Discontinuum into our Family. Grilling hot dogs and northerners on Saturday. Big welcome from the Schepp's
Sorry this is such late notice, is there anyone that is willing to give me a ride home after the challenge? I had a ride lined up that fell through. I live in Arlington Heights about 5 minutes away from Willow Stream DGC in Buffalo Grove. I have a ride to Oswego but have not found one home yet. Thanks in advance.
Case
I can give you a ride.
Don't know if it's in the plans or not, but may I suggest we do a CTP and Ace Fund for the day?
Since there are so few people, I'd think the Ace Fund should be at least $2 with a CTP throw-off if not won.
Since the concrete is paid for, we could do a 100% payout CTP or keep it 50/50 for the club and/or Hesed House. I think $4 per round would work so that the total for entering all is a nice even $10. I just think it's always fun to walk with a little more money than what you came with, especially with a lucky shot!
I should be there about 8:15 or so if I need to run this. I sorta like #7 for the first round CTP, reachable by all, but not nescesarily easy.
Any yea's or nay's?
I am in for the fox valley challenge at Oswego . This is Andy R.

With Discontinuum taking the 8 to 6 win in the second round, the overall for the day was tied at 14 points for each team.
2 players from each team were selected to play a sudden death playoff from the long tess. Doug Buettgen and Todd Fanning were selected for Discontinuum. Kyle Chapman and Aaron Scott represented Fox Valley.
All four players put their drives on the green. Doug Buettgen canned the putt for Discontinuum and the win on hole 1 of the playoff.
Congratulations to Discontinuum for the victory! That's 2 years in a row where the winner was detemined by playoff.
I hope everyone enjoyed the day as well as the dogs that Blaine and Christie cooked up for everyone.
Some highlights for the day:
Kyle aced the last hole of the round in singles (#15) to seal the eal agains Brett.
Jr and George had a wicked tree kick from the schule on hole 13 to deuce the hole during the doubles round.
Thanks for the post Aaron. Add one more highlight to the day. Aaron shot a blistering 43 the first round. This was a very fun event. The sudden death playoff round was very exciting, it was fun because everyone watching had a stake in the results. Todd made a very solid drive and Doug hit a big putt to take the win.
Thanks to all the Discontinuum members who made the hike to Oswego. It is not a short drive. It wasn't for a trophy or for plastic, while it was for cash, it certainly wasn't much as each player on the winning team got $5.00. It was to go out and represent the club, represent disc golf and go out and have a great time.
Thanks to Fox Valley, especially Tyler for getting this event together. Thank you to Blaine and Christie for the dogs and pop.
