United States Disc Golf Championship

We are currently looking for 1 regional qualifying event in each of the 8 PDGA regions. Qualifiers need to be PDGA sanctioned, but tier does not matter. We need big tournaments with multiple divisions so that as many people as possible get a chance to qualify.

Which tournaments do you think deserve consideration?

This was on good ol' Facebook

Be nice if Illinois had the PDGA Regional 7 spot...

Of course, Bowling Green, KY.  It'd be great if the Adv. men winner won a spot!
Greater Peoria Open, always.  The BEST event in Illinois.

I'd be surprised to see a sanctioned event in Peoria this year. I have heard nothing about an A-tier and it seems the PFC BOD isn't interested in running sanctioned events.

I think SRO is a good choice as well. They always have a large number of entrants that are spread out into multiple large divisions.

why is that Bruce?   Somebody qualified at the GPO in 2009, so it must meet the criteria.

"We need big tournaments with multiple divisions so that as many people as possible get a chance to qualify."

Traditionally the Peoria Open has limited the number of players and the number of divisions.  The 2011 USDGC is not like the USDGCs past.  You qualify based on shooting the most above your rating and they want to qualify players from the divisions that the GPO does not offer.

Started my year off in Antioch, Ill yesturday. Had fun at the course. Windy and cold in the front nine. Trees blocked the wind on the back nine, made it livable..

Channahon, Ill is next. Think Rockford, Ill is having the Artic Blast the following Sunday (Feb. 13)..

Looks like a lot of c-tiers in IL this year, and IL state championships is at the same time as am worlds. I hope there is going to be some big tournaments added to that list.

Going to have to travel to play A-tiers.

Last year there were only 2 tournaments in the U.S. on Mother's Day, so it seems not many TD's are willing to take that risk.

The day before Mother's Day had a lot of success though.  There were tourneys in Geneseo and Saukville that were filled to capacity.

I highly recommend AGAINST mother's day.  When I merched the River Cities Rumble A-Tier in 2007? 2008? the attendance was WAY down, and I had a ton of people walk up to the merch table on Saturday lamenting that they couldn't play because they couldn't commit to anything on mother's day.

Brett,

Depending on how we do at the Mother Lode...  the CCC will be a full B-tier this year for both am and pro.

The Mother Lode is already a full B for both and will be a 2 day event for both...

Thanks,

Yes. The IOS events will be MPO/MA2/MA4 on Saturday. All others on Sunday. We should have the new web site online later this week to answer this and other questions.

Unless the Mokena Park District undergoes a management change, No. Last time someone went down this path the MPD wanted a guaranteed $500/day plus they will not allow cash sales of disc golf merchandise.

Usually the schedule fills in throughout the year.  If you are willing to drive a few hours, there will probably be a tournament just about every weekend from April through October.  We are actually in a great area for tournament play.  Look on the map.  If you lived in most other states you'd have less than half the opportunities to play local events.  There is a reason that IL amateurs are always at the top of the Amateur points.

You've been spoiled in recent years.  It wasn't long ago there was only 1 or 2 IL tournaments on the schedule this early, and only a handful of IL events all year.  5 IOS events is a lot.  9 last year was crazy.  That was a huge committment for Scott.

If I can work things out with Mokena and Brett, I'll run Mokena Big D Doubles this year.  I finally got my tournament operation out of debt.  I'll put up the $500.

The schedule is lighter partially because I burned myself out last year setting up for 12 tournaments and an ace race.  This year I'm anticipating 6 and an ace race.  That final number might change, but at the same time it's already freeing up 6 weekends.  We need more people to step up and help out behind the scenes in order to make more events happen.

3 items for me. 1. The Village of Libertyville wanted to charge quite a bit more of a course use fee. Double of what I had paid the previous couple of years. I had to negotiate big time to get them to come down last year. 2. It's a fine line on a date. Too early in the year and it's muddy as heck and possibly flooded. Wait a little long and the skeeters just dominate you at Adler. 3. Setting up and tearing down the course is very difficult. I've had some awesome helpers the last couple of years and appreciate all they have done. I'm pretty burnt out and not sure I want to take that task on this year.

"Aw, why the Deuces Wild change?"

I wanted to put a little distance between the Deuces Wild tournament, and Illinois State, which is run two weeks later on one of the same courses. Makes for a less interesting tournament, and also isn't fair to the J-town boys, who are the best thing going down here in Joliet. So, one of the reasons was out of respect for them. The other reason was that I saw very few tournaments in the Oswego/Aurora area, and I thought they'd like at least one more.

I do like running it at West Park and Highland Park though, so maybe I'll bring it back next year, just on a different set of dates.

also, why only 5 IOS's?

We wanted to make the emphasis on quality over quantity. It is also really hard to give up more than 5 weekends over the course of the disc golf season. Never mind the work we do before and after the tournament. The actual weekend is dedicated to running the event. From 6am on Saturday until 8pm on Sunday.
