Any consideration of having pros play 2 rounds from the longs?
I can definitely consider it - there's only what, 10 long holes? I'd just have to make sure that when it changes divisions they don't tee from 2 short if people are waiting on 2 long - or at least make sure everyone is observant of the different tees. Definitely worth considering.
If you do so I strongly prefer to have all players play the longs. I find the ratings can be skewed if you have a small group playing longs and a small group playing shorts during the same round. Novice division gets especially screwed up because Novice consists of such a wide variety of players. There are future Advanced playerrs who are new to the sport and will shoot a sub 800 round followed but an over 900 round, There are players hovering around 850 and there are perrrenial players of mediocrity such as myself. If a couple players have really hot rounds or really crummy rounds the pool gets scewed. The pros are more consistent. The Intermediates are pretty consistent. When everybody is in the same pool the ratings are more stable. I have no problem playing all longs even though I am one of the shortest throwers on the course. I would prefer one round of each but not if it means splitting the field. If the field is split I am much more likely to play GM on Sunday.
I might play this tournament and I agree with Dave. Unless a course is somehow inappropriate for short throwers, it is a good practice to keep everyone on the same tees. There's the issue of confusion, the issue of flow, and the issue of fairness.
Having said that, I'm fine with getting an artificially low rating by playing in a pool that has no pros and many rapidly improving amateurs. But I'm in the minority. Most amateurs want a better rating more than they want a better game! ::)
And speaking of maybe playing this tournament, Kelsey is flying from Detroit to Omaha the following Monday and may have a ticket that connects in Chicago. Is there a way she can skip the first leg of the trip and board in Chicago? The ticket was purchased by the foundation that is sending her to Omaha, so they just assumed she'd want to fly out of Detroit.
@ Long Tee question: For ratings purposes all IOS events play the same tees for all divisions on a particular day. The exceptions that we have made to this are for really young juniors who did not care about ratings.
@ Bruce: Call the airline. It will depend on how it is booked. If it is one ticket for each way then she probably can't board in Chicago without getting rebooked. If she has a separate ticket for leaving Chicago then she might be able to. The airline might also be able to rebook the trip - rebooking fees might apply.
sent you a check today Scott. See ya in a month!
looking forward to seeing you there, Doug!
will you have registered players up on pdga.com? and did you get the check ok?
yeah, I'll get all of the names up on the PDGA website as soon as I get the password from them. I just found out today that they finally listed it on their website.
I did get your check Doug, you are all set :)
I know that a lot of people liked the stamp that I used last year for the Dave Pitner Memorial. However many were saddened that I only had the stamp put on Gateway plastic. As long as my order goes through ok, I used essentially the same stamp again for this year's event only it's going to be on Innova plastic :) The order will include Yeti Aviar's, Champ TeeBird Plus, Champ Teebird-L, Star Vulcan, Echo Star Destroyer, CFR Champion Glo FL's, CFR Champion Glo Boss, and a couple of other goodies. I have the hot stamp attached to this post!

I was there on the 17th. Don't know how much it's rained there since, but when I was there the course was in terrific shape. No standing water anywhere. #11 is in the short positiion; the long raised green is roped off till it grows in some.
ok Damon, thank you
As of yesterday, 04/29, hole 6 was the unplayable hole. #11 is wet on the left side but playable. My guess it will be fine Wednesday, even if we get rain tonignt. Oh, #4 is best to play on the hyzer side, it's somewhat of an island. I hope this helps.
ok Frank, thanks alot. great job on all you do for us out there. much appreciated.
first time out in a while
+5
skipped 6
windy and cool at start
worth the trip
course looks good
little muddy
thanks frank
Went out there today. Course is completely playable now, including 6. A bit muddy in spots and some wet areas off the fairway but overall the course is looking great.
Scott, will the reg list go up on PDGA soon? I registered yesterday for Saturday, MA4. I am looking forward to seeing Frank's handiwork in the springtime and keeping my disc off of any of the flowering bulbs.
pre-reg will be up for sure by the weekend, but hopefully I'll be able to get it up super soon. There's about 15 or so registrations, more pre-reg would really help keep things going smooth next weekend. Only 10 days until tournament time!!!
just wondering if all divisions are playing same tee's both days try'n to figure out driving situation and a few int players would play advanced on sunday if intermediate was playing both rd's from the shorts
For each day, one round will be from the shorts, one from the longs. The same tees are played for all divisions.
I think Jon is planning on having 2010 Series Points awards at this tournament. Maybe Jon will confirm that. I'm not sure what exactly he is doing, but I'm dying a bunch of glow champion discs for him that will be included in the trophy concept. I got nine on the shelves and then I ran out of blue dye.
a rd from the shorts and longs that is gonna be duce or die for the adv and profields that wont be very much fun.
It will certainly give the looooosers something to whine about.

question, if awards are done, when will they be done during the course of the tournament? after the awards for the tournament?

I won't have the awards done until the tournament after I get the discs. If Bruce isn't getting the discs to me until IOS #1 then I won't have the awards ready until IOS #2.
O.k., well you will get them at Channahon. They are under dye right now and looking good. For the Champion, it is best to give them a long dye time and not try to rush the process.
well i thought real disc golf was not about duces, but golf that is a challange thats why most of the courses in Illinois suck. i don't who is whining i was just making a point about what makes good golf.
I looked at how I ran it last year and it was shorts/longs both days all divisions. There's only 10 long tees, and 8 share tees both rounds. I'm trying to prepare to have long tees for all of the temp holes (at least 3 temps) to help change it up some. The SSA last year for 22 holes on Saturday was 56.59 from round 1 all shorts and 58.86 from round 2 with longs. If the difference was closer to 5 or more strokes I could make more of a case to change it up. In addition to keeping course flow going smoothly and less confusion as far as who plays what, I'm going to keep things consistent for all players.
got a phone call tonight. "Ol Lefty" Scott Martin, PDGA#5560 will be at this event. come out Sunday and see one of Illinois's best golfers ever. He is playing Pro Masters
The man is a god to the Waterford Junior Girls Club. ;D
like I said, he will be there Sunday, if I can get Scott to hold a spot for him??

So I noticed there are 4 women signed up already in int. women, and 1 in open. I know of probably 2 more that will being signing up as well. If you know of any women who play please try to get them to come on out. It'd be awesome to get that intemediate division up to around 8.

Ill see if Chris Jordan is available heard he likes shooting from the short tees.
LMAO
what day/time does pre reg end?
It closes at 8pm Friday night, although try not to push it! I WILL be very proactive in making sure it is cut off after 8pm as I'm trying to get a little bit ahead for this tournament!
8pm is plenty of time i was hoping for noon so thatll give me lots of time to get the paycheck in and reg. thanks scott. see u on sunday
calling for rain tonight until Sunday night here in Peoria. hope the Northern part of the State don't get that much rain.
hopefully we'll stay dry. 60% chance Saturday, 40% chance Sunday according to weather.com. Accuweather.com has been more reliable in the past for me. They say 0.05 in of rain over a 3 hour period Saturday, that will hopefully just be a refreshing cool down rain, and on Sunday they say scattered chances, but no amount of precipitation predicted. I'm guessing it will be hit or miss clouds like a lot of it has been as of late.
21 signed up for Sat so far: http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/69210 (http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/69210)

Good luck to everyone playing tomorrow. May the rain and wind be with you, and not there Sunday!
I'd love to see no rain on either day :) Guess I should have stocked up on more towels! lol.

Was it windier today? The ratings today are a bit higher than yesterday. Just wondering how conditions compared. Lets hear it for the area players. Lets face it, the weather was pretty lousy this weekend but we had a great turnout both days.
Sunday started out wetter and it was quite a bit windier all day. Thanks to everyone who came out despite the weather.
IOS Crew,
Thanks for running another great tournament! Despite the weather, I had fun out there.
Also, thanks to Frank for all the hard work on the course! My only gripe is that this park is not around the corner from my house. :P
Thank You Scott and the IOS Crew! See you in Oswego.
great job once again gang. The weather sucked, my scoring sucked, but had a great time once again.
awesome looking course Frank Grimes & Crew. the new benches look great.
see ya all in Oswego.
any idea when registration will Open for IOS#3?
Still pounding out some details on IOS 3, hoefully news about registration will be public soon, and for sure going before IOS 2 comes.
What did everyone think of the trophy ceremony process? I messed things up on Sunday meaning to do the pro divisions first (where we name all people receiving cash), and then announce all of the trophy winners in the small divisions (so top 3 in the big divisions, top 1 in the micro's). It was partially done due to weather, but I was hoping that it would give a good combination of recognition to the top finishers mixed with a shorter ceremony. Then since people had to approach the board to collect their winnings for the remainder of the field, it slowed the pace some to help try to alleviate the checkout line. The line got bad on Sunday because I had a big order near the beginning that I was botching up ringing up (not the customer's fault AT ALL!)
If anyone should see this dyed max weight Champ Boss when out playing the course or see it in someone's bag, please report the person to me. This disc was either stolen at IOS #1 or wound up in the magical abyss of missing discs (eg. put on hold and then not purchased yet somehow doesn't make it to the right bin). I'm hoping that it will turn up, but this kind of stuff just makes me sick. I have a customer online that tried to buy it from me, but now of course I can't ship it to them as it is MIA. I know that if the person uses DISContinuum as soon as they see this will put the disc away, but for those of you who are honest and trustworthy, please help out in making sure that everyone else stays honest as well!
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to have to start implementing new security measures, but I will if I have to!
Note: the hotstamp on the disc is red, and I can confirm that I had it in my possession with my end of year inventory, and IOS #1 was the first/only tournament it would have been seen at.
