I do not know if I can be at the meeting on Sunday, however one thing I'd like to see as a discussion item is possibly moving the start time for league back by 30-60 minutes for the remainder of Summer league. Obviously we couldn't declare the new time effective the following week, so I'd recommend if it were accepted we implement it two weeks after the meeting... The following Sunday tell all players & the Sunday after that make the change.
The reason for this? The last two weeks, come 10:00 the parking lot at Bevier is at max capacity, however there is plenty parking if you get there before 9:45.
If this change is not approved, we still should tell players its in their best interest to get to the park before 10.
...and I may be going to the Pickle.
As for incorporation, I received confirmation on filing from the County Clerk's office. I believe all we must do is send a copy to the Feds. Fee unknown if any. Basically, we're done. :-)
DISContinuum/Wkgn. Pk. District Workshops: Session 1: Zero paid participants, so officially scrapped.
Session 2: Starts July 15th. Volunteers: Jim, Steve, Kyle, and ???. We hope this goes better. I'm doing a flyer to hang all over town, like YMCA, gyms, grocery stores, etc. We'll see.
Junior Leagues: Week 1: 2 kids, Danny and Bill (cousin Bill!). Paul, Pat and myself showed up to coach. We need to publicize this more also.
Discs: Jay made a deal with Innova: we buy 40 discs at cheap prices and they donate 40 discs. All to be used for Junior Leagues and Workshops. We got 20 Leopards, 20 Rocs, and 40 Aviar X-outs. If we don;t used them for Jr or Workshops, we can use them as prizes or players packs for da Blast in September.
Sponsorship: I have allowed the Pizza Hut relationship to stagnate; no comuunication for 3 months; I've simply had no time. I will talk/meet with Chad and get the ball rolling again. However, I need someone to be a sponsor liaison as I continue to let go of my respnsibilities.
Bevier: Hole B to be installed sometime in July. I'm also nearly done with a bulletin board I'm making. So far, very nice; should last years.
New Course Proposal: I am totally redoing our standard course proposal. It will be more succinct and attractive. After 2+ years of working with the Waukegan Park District, I've learned what park board members look for. A Chuck Martin of the Wildwood Pk Dist. asked that I send in a formal proposal by July 1st. If approved, we've design it this fall and install next Spring. Here's the deal:
We design it. WWPD buys the equipment. We install it. Club members play for free forever and the WWPD makes a substantial cash donation to the club. Most club officers have already voiced approval for this, so I'm moving ahead.
Jim's role: from here on out, my time is pretty maxxed out. I will finish the bulletin board, reestablish the Pizza Hut deal, work on the new course, and make sure Hole B gets in the ground. In fact, Brett may need to take the lead on that last one. Chud would also like to help on the final design of B.
That's it for now. Blah blah blah, Jim's rambling again......
Chud hit the Pickle 3 years ago and won BUKU prizes! Great people, fun course.
Also, I'm all for changing the time of Best Shot.
Sorry I couldn't be there.
Here's my .02:
1. Incorporation-] I will post specific info as soon as I can compile it all.
3. Insurance update- I will schedule a meeting with the WPD's Mike Trigg and Tanya Brady at the WPD. I would like you to come as well Brett (and other officers as well). My plan is to talk about the 5-year-plan and insurance. Specifically, the need for insurance and options. The WPD says we need insurance no matter what. We need to talk this out and see if any options exist.
4. Disc Golf Class-] No one signed up for session one.
Session 2 will be advertised a little more. Kep your fingers crossed.
5. Junior Leagues-] Pat, Paul, and I have been showing up weekly - should be OK if we can all keep coming. We could always use more..... :-)
6. Widdershins Open Recap - We made between $40 and $50. Thank the Goddess for donations!!!! Thanks SPONSORS!!! I will post the skinny this week.
7. Illinois Open-] You go boys!!!
8. Bag Tag Update - I will be dropping off the BTs tomorrow. Somehow, they wound up in my laundry basket. Mmmm, sounds like Patrick....
10. Bevier Blast - I'd recommend that Myk, Jojo, Mirth, and/or Jay TD the Blast this year. However, if there are no takers, I'll do it. If so, it will probably be the last one I'll TD for a while.
Except for.....
the byo-doubles, invite-only event idea that a few of us were tossing around. Brett, can I throw together a plan and run it by everyone in a week or so?
12. New Course Proposal & Maintenance - I'd like to push this one through. The proposed course in WW is almost a sure thing. Since we're not doing Gurnee anytime soon, I think we can do this. I already have support from the future course pro. :-)
It will take minimal time and effort on our part, and putting a course in will be great for our resume! Plus, the donation we discussed will be generous!
13. Bevier Update - Looks like July. This will be part of what we discuss with the WPD soon.
I hope this helps a bit.
That's why I was so hesitant at the beginning of the year to try to tackle so much. but somehow, stuff is getting done.
Also, with the new course proposal: i hope we are not getting away from our goals and vision. Putting courses in the ground is as important or more important than running events. With WW, all we would need to do is scope it out (several times), sink baskets, and do the formed/woodchipped tees. If we get 10-12 people out for one day, we can do this. Also, we will be getting a generous donation. We'll make more from this donation than we have at 3 tournaments. Plus, the service we provide to the community by installing a new course is greater than offering a rec division that very few players participate in.
You dweeb.
I might have gotten the stuff for the thing, but its kinda weird. On one hand, you've got THIS stuff. On the other foot, you've got THAT stuff.
Uuuuggggggg!

Mirth, Jojo, Joe T. & Brett were at the meeting today. Joe T. joined DISContinuum today & bought a bag tag. Heck yeah!!! Welcome to the club Joe T.
As for the meeting we discussed a lot.
1. Incorporation-] We are done. When do we get to start using the ID # on purchases? How can we get this to get sponsors? Jim, can you fill us in?
2. Summer League Doubles time change-] We want to start summer leagues @ 10:00AM on Sunday mornings due to parking & the time it takes to play 2 more holes. Anyone have a problem with this. It will not go into effect for a few more weeks.
3. Insurance update-] We are now fully insured for next year. Do we want to spend this kind of $ for insurance next year? With the summer class being a bust, we could save the $ & run our tournaments as PDGA events.
4. Disc Golf Class-] No one signed up for session one.
5. Junior Legues-] There were 2 players the first week & 3 players yestarday. We still need volunteers to help.
6. Widdershins Open Recap-] The results are online. Jim, did we break even for this tournament?
7. Illinois Open-] Jon & Brett have everything ready to go. There will be 2 more work days to prepare for the event. Dr. Dye will have the discs ready to go & the course looks great!
8. Bag Tag Update-] We just ordered 10 more. Joe T., Adrian, & Brandon want one. Only 7 more left out of this batch. Kevin Smart has #1.
9. Safari Update-] Stats are online. Jay, do we have any #'s on what kind of funds we are generating?
10. Bevier Blast-] Jim, are you TD'ing this tournament? If not, who is?
11. Sponsorships-] Please help find sponsorships for the club & our tournaments.
12. New Course Proposal & Maintenance-] Jim is getting a new proposal ready. Jim is working with a park district to get a new 9 hole course designed & installed. As for maintenance & installation, it has been a very tough year to get Round Lake & Bevier improved. Turnouts have been low for these days. Members present do not see another project as a wise decision. We agreed that designing a course would be good but actually installing & working on another course did not seem possible.
13. Bevier Update-] When will hole B be completed. Are they going to lay wood chips on Holes A & C?
13. Tournament Proposal-] Ideas of a generic form to fill out to run a tournament. This would be used as a guide line for anyone wanting to TD a tournament. Once passed at a club meeting, the TD would be able to make decisions on how he/she is going to run the tournament.
14. There we lots of other ideas shared. Wish you could have been there
I would like to be at that meeting for the insurance. I don't see why we would need insurance no matter what. People play disc golf every day at Bevier. Do they need insurance? I can see needing insurance for tournaments. That is why running PDGA Sanctioned events would be the best way to go. WPD is smoking crack.
I have no problem designing a course. Even if it takes minimal effort, you still have to get people there to do it. Last 3 Fairfield work days-] 3, 2, & 3 have attended. Bevier work days have been about the same.

Where can I find some info on the Pickle Open? Times, cost, etc. Is the a web site?
http://www.widiscsports.com/schedule.shtml
Fun event...lots of games. Like knocking the pickle off of Barry's or Ryan's head from 150ft away.
So where is WW? Might I suggest placing anchors instead of cementing in baskets. And getting decent locks. It is to easy to steal a basket that is just cemented in the ground. A hammer will knock the cement loose with 1 or 2 good whacks. I will post a good method for discouraging theives.
my input for other stuff..
1. cool
2. no prob
3. tell them without our participation on this course it will become shit.. give us a break or pay for our insurance (refer to #1). We are non-profit... PDGA events at Bevier would be difficult without 18 holes. I suppose we could get temp baskets.
4. ?
8. Kevin, where you at? When is the payout date? is it at the Blast or later?
9. Was fun...don't care for it anymore. Not really a safari format. Short tees are far from Safariing it. My idea of Safari is playing it backwards or making new holes out of a course. Why not change the payout and change the name to traveling league or disc rovers?
10. Why should Jim do everything? It is not to hard to run one with the help of others. I do relize that Jim is the course Pro and that is what they do at their course.
12. need to figure a way to have locals work on there own course instead of the same 6 members traveling to work. It is amazing how much time is spent at Parkside from locals. It is not hard to step up and help out at your local course. Just ask your course pro what you can do. If there is no contact for course pro, ask your park district if you can be that person. If we try to tackle on taking care of every course in the Chicago area, we will be burnt out so quick. I'm glad Nick is stepping up to be the man at this new course.
Are we going to have stamped club disc available at the Illinios open? How is the sponsorship going?
Jim, did you get that private e-mail about that thing for the thing? What do you think? We could lower it a little more, maybe 1825 or so..
Sorry to anyone who left me a private e-mail from this discussion board. I just learned yesterday that we had it...also that I had 15 messages from over the year.
I would be willing to help run an event, but I like to play.... but maybe let me stew it over.
(nevermind)
Brett,
I won't be able to make the meeting because I'm going to the Shorewood Shootout. Let's talk this week and we can discuss IO news to report.
Brett,
The Blast isn't on your agenda, but maybe it should be. Has anyone volunteered to run it? I was thinking that Jim had said that the Widdershins would be his last event as TD for the foreseen future.
You had discussed you and I running it at one point, Brett. Are you still leaning that way? Is there anyone else in the club that wants to step up and learn how to TD an event?
And on another note, did you get the stuff for the stuff?
Can't accuse these of being off topic, can ya!? :D
