Yestarday, all club officials & ops met. We discussed several issues such as adding & dropping events, an Illinois Tour Series, memberships, & rules.
NEW RULE
- This will go into effect for best shot leagues starting Fall League
- This will also start for the September Safari Event
*This excludes Tournaments*
Anyone wanting to play in Leagues or a Safari Event can pay a $2.00 entry fee. This fee will get them on a card. If they place in a payout place, the prize or cash will not be collected by this individual.
$2.00 to play along with a group but not participate in the event.
The only exception is best shot league, if you and your partner place in the money your partner gets his share and your share goes to the club.
Additionally, you do not accrue any league or series points you may have earned that day.
Yes, a few times in fact.
We didn't specifically decide the ace pool and cash CTP questions but it would seem reasonable to allow it.
There have been several times when players have not had enough money to play. I think this can only help us to meet the goals of DISContinuum Disc Golf Club. I also think this is fair to the others who decide to pay the full entry fee. We've had several occasions when players have not paid the entry fee but played the event. We came to the conclusion that this is unfair to those who have paid the full entry fee. With this system, we are able to balance the two.
A vote was taken yestarday that a $2.00 fee was fair.
For the Safari, player C would get 9 points.
If player B would finish first, he would not win the disc. The disc would go to the 2nd place finisher. That 2nd place finisher would actually get ten points.
So in reality, that player is actually not there in terms of points no matter where he/she finishes.
With this new rule he would have to pay $2 but still not be able to get the points or the disc whether it be from taking 1st or CTP or whatever, correct?
That is correct
I also forgot to mention that starting this Fall, Best Shot League will start @ 10:00AM instead of 10:30AM
Goals being met-] We want as many people to participate in DISContinuum Events as possilbe. Some people may just want to play & don't care about winning prizes. This may also give the guys/girls who say they can't win, a chance to play at a reduced fee. $6.00, $7.00, & $10.00 compared to $2.00 is a big difference. This may also get some people who are not in the points hunt a chance to play Safari, practice for tournament situations, or just be there for a social affair.
This being said
Here was the other option.
Anyone not paying an entry fee at Safari would not get on a card. We found it to be unfair to other paying participants if someone who has not paid to be able to participate in the event. This has happened on more than one occasion. This is a social club with others paying event fees & dues. Others do like playing with groups. Would someone drive to Rockford on their own & play by themselves while others are playing in groups of 4? I think that $2.00 would be worth the social value.
Has a situation came up that someone wanted to play but could not afford it? I have mixed feelings on this.
I guess that is where I stand on it also, it works and kind of doesn't, but then it works...kind off.
Josh, I need those discs asap to figure payouts. I will be home at 4 tomorrow. Can you stop by the house?
I havent' heard of this problem cropping up for a few months now. And I thought it was decided a when it was happening that we'd charge them $1 and they'd fall under the same rules (ie. no payouts). Why the increase/interest again?
So at the last safari (Joliet) Kyle rode down with Steve and myself and he was in our foursome but his stats weren't kept, he always threw last, and his disc was actually leaning against the pole on the CTP hole but b/c he didn't play he didn't get the disc (Which he was completely fine with). With this new rule he would have to pay $2 but still not be able to get the points or the disc whether it be from taking 1st or CTP or whatever, correct? So the smart thing would be to either throw in the extra $5 so he'd be an actual player in the safari, or tee off right behind us and play as a seperate "group" like any other casual player would. Hmm...interesting.

*What goals are being met by this? I guess I just see the negative side of it. If, for example, I were to back out of the Safari b/c I wouldn't be able to get the minimum in, and I wanted to play at UWP with everyone, I'd be saving my $2 and just play earlier or later. I guess I am looking at it like members have to pay $2 for the right or privilege to play with other members and I don't think I really like that. Having said that, I don't see it happening THAT often to where it would be a big deal, but I'm not at every Discontinuum event either.

*I think it would only be unfair if the person who didn't pay got prizes or points. If a non-paying player beats me in a safari event, I don't care as long as I still get the points.
Gotcha. Thanks for clearing it up. I guess I understand it now but don't necessarliy agree with it, but I don't think it something I'll need to worry about anyway.
Shawn-Kyle has them right now. (I had them in his car when I rode with him to UWP the other day) I will get ahold of him ASAP to find out if he can drop them off tomorrow. If not,I'll see if I can get them from him tomorrow and drop them off myself. I also have the 4 freestyle discs as well in the box.
OK, looking over these posts I see where the confusion has taken place. When we started discussing this it was about Safari. If someone takes the $2 option at the Safari they would not be eligible for points or overalls because they would not be paying for it. However, since at league that fee would more than cover overalls I had assumed that what they were paying for, they would get. I had thought that Brett had expressed this as well until I saw the Fall League stuff. It was never my intention to vote in favor of a league policy that the $2 player would not be eligible for the prizes that he or she had paid in for.
Safari is completely different as most of the fee for Safari is going to overalls.
As for the league money... The overalls are paid for with the $1 of each person playing each week. The other $5 is just a bet between everyone paying the full amount.
I think not having a chance to win is a legitimate use of the $2 option and is preferable to those people not playing at all.
So this is now the new club rule if I understand correctly:
At Safari events you can pay the entry fee or not play. There is no $2 Play-Along option and you cannot play in a group if you do not pay the Safari entry fee. It is strictly pay or don't play.
At Sunday League there is a $2 option. The $2 player is opting out of receiving a cash payout. His share goes to his partner. The $2 player does receive league points and is eligible for league overall prizes. The $2 player can get in the ace pool or cash CTP by paying for those, like any player playing for the full fee.

this may have come up in the meeting:
suppose in a Safari event, the 'no-prize' player finishes ahead of a 'full-fare' player, e.g.
Full-fare Player A 1st
no-prize B 2nd
Full-fare Player C 3rd
Does Player C get 8 points or 9?
It actually does make a difference!
I don't have any problem with the no-prize concept, but I'm not sure how I feel about this situation...

thanks for the clarification; makes sense
Seems reasonable to me too (ctp, ace pool – they're really separate categories).
I didn't bring this up Sunday because it really didn't occur to me til yesterday, but there's a little wrinkle to the $2 rule for leagues that might cause a little controversy at some point. Not that anyone here is opposed to controversy, but...
I suppose I'm usually among the players around the middle of the pack; that is, there are times when I probably should play in the 'upper pool' for doubles (a couple of times I have, but not many). I've wussed out on this the past few weeks as I was really in the hunt for overall points.
Since I actually placed in the summer league, it's perfectly reasonable to expect me to play in the upper pool on a regular basis, or at least when a floater is needed. However, from my POV, I've got next to no chance of cashing with a partner who's (theoretically) worse than I am, so I'm always going to take that $2 option when I'm playing upper. $2, or even a couple more for ctp/ace, is cheap entertainment, but paying full fare on a regular basis for me to play Upper is a gamble not worth taking. By the same token, if I *do* pay full fare and then a floater is needed or Upper, I'm not going to want to volunteer.
I'm thinking that I'm not the only who'll take this route; consequently, the overall payouts are going to be less, and for some reason I think some people won't like it.
Don't get me wrong – I completely support the $2 option, but I can see where the more mercenary among us are still going to have a problem with it. I probably won't make fall league that regularly anyhow as there are some other aspects of my life I need to attend to, but I figured it'd be worthwhile (though maybe not helpful ;) ) to toss this out.
