Title: 5 new discs for Innova next week
Post by: stpitner on November 03, 2011, 08:50:12 AM
Yikes, Innova has 5 new discs coming out next week.  No new molds, just same molds in new plastics.

Champion TL Plus (I guess this could be thought of as a new mold)
Champion Katana
Champion Archon
DX Boss
Star TeeDevil (first run and stock available)

The 2012 Calendar is also available.  Please PM me if you are interested in picking up a couple.

Not sure why they are releasing the boss in DX.  I understand that DX has a good grip, but the market for DX is mostly new players who shouldn't be throwing a Boss to begin with until more experienced anyway!

I have a Champion Katana, and it is much better than the Pro Katana. glides alot further. If you liked the Pro, pick up one of these Champions!

also got a Champ TL from the Decatur trny last Saturday. have not thrown this yet though.

Champ TL or Champ TL Plus?  I wouldn't be surprised that you can get Champ TL Plus with custom stamp molds on it, but I know that earlier in the year I ordered regular Champ TL's, not the plus.  Just curious which one you had.

All of my CFR Katana's will be dropped in price to match the stock Champion Katana price.

it is a custom stamp disc. we were told they were TL +, but the underside just says TL?? maybe they were misinformed, or they told us wrong??

if they told you it was TL+ I'd believe it.  If the Innova applied sticker was still on there it would probably tell you the difference.  What they write on the disc itself is not always consistent.  It's very common for a lot of the off-shoot molds to appear on the custom stamp list of stuff you can order first (that's where I get my DX Aviar Drivers, DX San Marino and DX Ontario Rocs, etc).

Archon throwers - excited about the Champion release?  I throw the Archon occasionally... it's a little more stable than I wanted it to be, but maybe I just need to work with it some more?

Speaking as a guy without much arm speed the champion plastic is usually too overstable for me in the discs that are considered high speed. I am happy with the star plastic when it comes to high speed discs.

.

They are TLs and half of them were the pearly champion plastic of about 5 years ago...  Money.

I've not tried an Archon yet.  What am I looking at with a Champ Archon in comparison to a Champ Katana?  Have they come out with a Champ Vulcan?  How would that compare with a Champ Archon?  I'm looking for something just slightly less stable than the Champ Katana for tailwind situations.  I tried a Star Vulcan this summer but it flipped over way too easily.  I couldn't throw it reliably for distance.  I generally prefer Champion plastic for all of my drivers.

Talk to StanK maybe and try out some of his Star Archons that he recently picked up from me.  It won't be the same as the Champion, but it might give you an idea.  The Archon is heralded as a faster Valk (Valk is 9/-2/2, Archon is 11/-2/2).  The Vulcan is 13/-4/2 and the Katana 13/-2/3.  Based on the numbers alone, you would think the Archon is a little slower, but possibly the little bit more stability that you were looking for.

We all know that the Valk has been talked about as a great tailwind driver.  It would definitely be interesting to see if the same could be said of the Archon.

If you wanted to stay with speed 13 they have the Groove slotted at 13/-2/2, although I don't know how you feel about that rim.

It's fun to finally chat some about disc golf stuff instead of spending all my time in Cubs or NFL talk :)

I like the Star Archon. For me it flies like a longer Orc. It fits my game pretty good since the rim isn't huge. I can throw it on some longer anhyzer lines that most of my discs cannot do.

The TL+ is a new mold designed to the specs of the old TL mold.  They broke the old TL mold.

Couple more discs came out this past monday.  I passed on ordering this time around.  The Star Lycan is a new mid-range disc.  I'm a little puzzled by this one as it's a large diameter disc that has the same stats as the Coyote.  The Coyote is also a large diameter disc.  What makes this one so different that they need to have a new mid-range?

Innova also released a metalflake Champion TeeDevil, and I would not be surprised if they start treating metalflake plastic like they do CFR glow champion plastic.  These will probably be popular discs, but it costs a lot of money for these things when they build the fundraiser price into the wholesale cost.

The PDGA also approved a new disc for Discmania - the FD - Jackyl.  This will be their first true fairway driver (The CD is probably the next closest thing).  I don't know when this will be released, although there has been some good response on the Discmania plastic - it should be good stuff since it's the same plastic and produced by Innova.

If you haven't noticed with Discmania, they offer a D-Line, P-Line, C-Line, and S-Line... those just line up with DX, Pro, Champion, Star.  Simple :)

Best way to find out is to throw the disc  not all the disc fly the same example I bought 2 new champ firebird they flipped over and got stright so you have to throw the disc but you can discgolfcenter.com they are pretty accurate

I use this to compare Innova's discs to one another:
http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/disc-comparison.html (http://www.innovadiscs.com/discs/disc-comparison.html)

Any others that combine brands would be supporting a competitor of mine heh, it just reminds me that we need to work on a list like that!

The PDGA also approved a new disc for Discmania - the FD - Jackal.

Picked up a pair of these in Star plastic on a kinda beta release and have been very pleased with the way they fly. The Jackal has been described as a TL/Leopard hybrid. I've been playing them against one of my personal favorites, the River by Lat64, and am hard pressed to say which I prefer. The River and Jackal fill pretty much the same role but get from point A to B differently; the River being stronger with compound lines and the Jackal with simple lines.
