2012 DISContinuum Club Challenge
WHEN: March 17, 2012 .
WHERE: Grey Fox Disc Golf Course Silver Lake, Wisconsin.
WHAT'S AT STAKE: Bragging rights and a SWEET trophy.
COST: FREEEEE!!!!!!!
Registration is at Grey Fox Disc Golf Course. Registration runs from 8:30AM to 9:30AM. Players meeting at 9:45AM with tee off to follow. The upper and lower pools will be split.
Teams must pre-register. Final rosters are not required to pre-register.
Please contact Tom McManus at treasurer@discontinuum.org to register your team.
One round of singles. 27 holes. In order for your club to play, you must have 15 members present at this event. DISContinuum, Fox Valley Disc Golf Club, Streamwood Disc Golf Union, J-Town Disc Golf Club, and GRABM are the five clubs that have automatic invites. Other criteria to play as a club: established club, paid dues, bag tags, and/or an established website. There will be two divisions: Open/Adv and Int/Rec. Any player with a rating >935 will play Open/Adv. All others will play Int/Rec. Mike Krupicka will be the final judge on ratings. If a player doesn't have a rating, they will play in the upper division. CTPs, 50/50, and other prizes to be awarded.
Scoring will be similar to Cross Country scoring. All players will be welcome as long as they are current members of one of the five clubs.

As far as I can tell, Fox Valley's team is sitting at 10 players. J-town is at 5. Any chance we could change the minimum to 10? As you said, "Scoring will be similar to Cross Country scoring. All players will be welcome as long as they are current members of one of the five clubs." So clubs briniging more gain an advantadge. But lowering the min allows those clubs farther away or with less people the ability to still play and count.

Im interest in playing in the Challenge but have a question. I have Bulls tickets that night but really want to make it to this. When do you think it will wrap up? This is my first tournament. Thanks.
Tee time will probably start around 10am. I can't see the rounds taking any more than 3 hours. I'd say 1PM is pretty safe bet.

There is a Dairy Queen near by which should be avoided. There are a couple of local taverns that have some good food that are very close by.
The closest fast food to the course would be at the intersection of 83 and 50, about a 4 mile drive. There is a Burger King there.
Last question, I think (yeah right!).
I see on the course map two basket locations per hole. Are those baskets or pin placements? Any idea what we'll be playing?

Different pin placements. They shuffle them around every week or two. Usually they alternate, so you either have evens long odds short, or evens short odds long. Sometimes they put them in all longs, but that's usually for tournaments.
Hopefully someone has a chance to get out there this weekend to report back on what layout it's in now, and they don't change them before next weekend :)

Since Phil now has his rating can we move him to the lower bracket?
Its up to you, but Burkhart, Hulsebus, Hoffman, Adcock, and Smith can be moved down if you want. Bell is definitely restricted to the upper division.

Practiced Silver Lake today and the course conditions are looking good.
It looks like a great day for disc golf per the gurus at Weather.com. It should be low 70's and sunny until about the time we are done. There is a 30% chance of isolated T- storms beginning around 3pm. There may be a bit of wind on the open holes but nothing that will make putting an adventure. :icon_sunny:
Mike and Tom- what is the plan for the Red Fox holes across the street? Do we play them duece or die as they are or are you planning to tweak them? Do we need to mark tee areas?

I am going to have some flags to mark the tees in the morning. The plan is to leave them as is. I am giving the flags to Brett, if he wants to make changes it is up to him. I would strongly suggest getting into the ace fund for this tourney.

Had a great time today. 134 players! Congrats to Streamwood on their 4th consecutive victory.
I just went over the round in my head and I'm pretty sure my score was added up wrong or was written wrong on the score card somewhere. I thought it was off when they counted it, but then I figured I was just wrong - I was tired. Either way, I shot two strokes better than what was counted up. Doubt it matters, but whatever. Had a great time. Still can't believe it's March. Going to be another awesome day tomorrow.

I agree with what everyone has said, thanks for running this Brett, Tom, Mike, and company. I had a lot of fun and it was great to see everyone there! The scores were calculated and released as promptly as possible.

Thanks to Mike Krupicka for all his help with this event, without Mike's help this event would not be possible. Thanks to all the team captains who organized their local player bases to make the trip up into Wisconsin; John Cleaveland for the cool box for bag tags; Christie Schepp for taking photos and organizing bag tags; Neal Swanson for running the distance contest; Adrian Gutierrez Sr., Dave B, and Kenny G for helping out with Discontinuum bag tags; Brett for his continued support of all things disc golf; all the players for being patient, 134 to come out for a nonsanctioned event is pretty incredible. Between the 50/50 and donations from all the participating clubs we were able to donate $307 to Kenosha County Parks.
