Title: New to the board, returning to the sport
Post by: Arik on May 01, 2012, 09:52:02 AM
Hey all, moved to Darien about two years ago, used to play a ton back Madison about 10 years ago, have probably played 3 times since... ???

Went out to the Oaks last weekend and the bug hit me. Have since traded in my old beat up plastic for some new and just found this board.

Glad to be getting back into it... question - if you were going to play one of these courses, which would be your preferred? They are all about the same from my home and I want to probably get out early on the weekend mornings.

Central Park in Oakbrook
Castalgo Park
O'Brien in Downers Grove
Summit (little further from me, but 18 holes)

Thoughts? Also - looking for some pick up games on the weekends/weekday evenings this spring/summer - only buddies who play are in the city and don't get out to the burbs much.

Play ether Central Park or Summit. Also you should check out the really good courses in Joliet, and Oswego.

The Oakbrooks also run a random doubles league on Thursdays:

Arik,
Central Park in Oak Brook is currently being re-designed to accommodate new construction for the park district.  Here is the best place to find current info on the status... http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=821

Out of the remaining 3, I prefer Castaldo.  I also concur with Davis...the Joliet area is the best option for quality courses in the Chicagoland area.

Also, welcome to the club!

You've got Mokena, West Park in Joliet, and Highland Park in Joliet, all within 18 miles of your house.  Also you've got Channahon and Oswego a little bit further out.  I'd primarily stick to those courses if I were you.  They blow away the other courses in the area.  If you enjoy hacking out quick 9 hole courses, then you pretty much have your pick of the litter here in the Chicago area.

Check out dgcoursereview.com and search the map for courses.

Trinity Links is a really good Joliet course as well.
