IOS #53 - The Manhattan Project
October 13th-14th, 2012
Round Barn Disc Golf Course - Manhattan, IL

We have reached an agreement with the Manhattan Park District to bring the final IOS to a hot new course in Manhattan, IL!  Look for this to show up on the PDGA website very soon.  There are still some finishing touches to put on this agreement, but we're at a point where I can announce it now.  Sorry that I had to keep it quiet for so long!

MPO/MA2/MA4 will play on Saturday
All other divisions Sunday

Pro's $50
AM's $30

2 rounds of 18 holes to the RED baskets.  Right now I'm probably not going to add any temp holes because the design of the course is such that it fills the available land quite well, and anything that we add would just be a chump hole.  I don't want to add a temp basket just for the sake of adding a temp basket.

Pre-registration will be online very soon!  You can also sign up at the Oswego tournament and save on online registration fees.

I'm going to offer a deal for this tournament: AM's that play in both the Oswego tournament and IOS #53 will get a $20 player pack instead of a $15 player pack at IOS #53.  However, you MUST sign up before or at the Oswego tournament for IOS #53 in order to qualify for this bonus.  The Oswego tournament is Sept 29th/30th and is only $20 to get in for AM's.

I look forward to seeing these tee signs out on the course!  Hole 4 is nasty, but you play it smart and you'll be ok.  You will NOT be allowed to trudge in the water to get your disc, so throw well!

It's very unfortunate that I have to say the park will be closed until this weekend for the tournament. So anyone that wants to get there before hand for a practice round you will not be able to do this. Because this park is still not "officially" open, I can understand that they would still want to work on some areas. It's also the first time a tournament has been run here before, so knowledge that tournament players would want to come out beforehand to practice may not have been thought about. Terribly sorry about this! I was going to go out there on Friday to possibly do some course work as well. I guess now I'm going to have to do it all Saturday morning.

They are working on expanding the main entrance to the park.  Please also be mindful when you pull in at the course that you go SLOWLY to the parking lot.  Please do not speed through the gravel area or else they are going to quickly change their mind about tournaments being allowed to run there!

Totally forget that this tournament was coming up, til my husband mentioned it.  He says it a nice but tough course.  I'm looking forward to adding another course to my list.  When does online reg end?

Should be interesting with the 20 mph right to left wind forecast for Saturday. I'm guessing format will be the same as the island hole (#20) at Marengo?

the only difference between the hole 1 island and manhattan and the hole 20 island at marengo is that there is no safe zone between tee and island.  But the hole is 217 feet.  If you miss the island from tee shot, you take a penalty and throw from drop zone.  Drop zone will be about 60 feet away from basket with tight OB just behind the basket.  You would throw from where you went OB if you threw from drop zone.

Well if there's any consolation prize from today it was that I was home by 5pm.  Thanks everyone that stepped up to help me load up tonight.

Scores were posted immediately following the rounds.  Enjoy!

I have played a tournament this windy since the Widdershins. It was crazy.

On my last hole, I had about a 100-ft upshot with a LR crosswind. Disc hit the ground about 20 ft out, started to settle, then swept up into the air, and bounced and rolled about 150 ft to the right like it was haunted.

It was still fun in a perverse kind of way. Would have been intolerable if it was raining though.

yeah I'm really glad that everyone was off the course round 2 before that short rain burst hit.  That would have just been insult to injury.  Really tough weekend, and thanks to all that toughed it out.  I have a feeling that our October tournament in 2013 is going to be single day only.

The wind was so crazy it was fun.  On one hole I had a 10 foot putt into the wind. I drilled a Pig dead center and hit the post.  Perfect putt.  The disc turned up caught the wind, blew back at me and started to roll landing 20 feet behind me. I wasn't to happy about the wind then, but it was still fun.

I understand the concern about a 1 day tournament in October.  It may have been best this past weekend. However, if its on the schedule for a while and  at a course like Fairfield where there is a player base or perhaps Manhattan next  year after more people have played it, you will get a much better turnout. I think IOS was plagued by changes, new courses with little time to get the word out,  and course cancellations  When things are listed for a while the players plan around these events.
