Title: ideas for charity event
Post by: airspuds on October 17, 2003, 09:02:45 AM
whats your opinion on

ice bowl type charity event

on thanksgiving  ?
(due to rising insurance costs, hospital costs and the such it makes no sense to play football  on this day)

on super bowl sunday ? (this could be ice bowl ish concept)

just setting up course  (worlds biggest type)

the dan ryan woods at 87 th western  in my opinion would
be a good place for an event

i think i know enough people who would lend/bring baskets
i think i have enough favors to call in to staff this event

im thinking more like thanksgiving 2004

it is a cook county forest preserve

i believe i would have to apply for a special use permit
depending on # of people
i have just started researching this aspect on their web site
but its a little confusing

i guess i got to get the BALLS and call them

what about insurance  ?

Aren't there feral dogs roaming the Dan Ryan woods?

unfortunately

i guess there was another incident envolving a pit bull
attacting a dog in a yard

last year 1 person died and another was injured by pit bulls

and a friend of mine while we were riding through the
woods along this cool canal was bit by a dog off the lease
thats still in litigation

the problem i see with this location is it is high use on summer
weekends  - lots of trash left all over

soccer during the summer

most other times it is usually empty - sept oct nov and such

some other disc golfers have played here but its been awhile

ive walked/set up several holes  threw to my bag

plenty of room  but need permission and insurance and forms to run anything
official

im thinking maybe a worlds biggest type event

can you say "discontinuum south"

gots a good ring huh ?

guess ill get motivated and walk out rest of course
i think i got like 12 holes with 3 tees

Since most people have to work that day, not many, I would think.

church boiler broke

need 57000 bucks from parisioners  (250 each  if possible)

im charitied out  [/size](gift wrap, cookies, mkt day, raffle, raffle, raffle,  etc)

i support all the stuff the church/school runs to raise money
my kid has got the best education in the world

if i was to propose an idea it would have to involve disc

i have/can set up nine holes in the field behind the school

i need some ideas on how to  put concrete numbers into an idea

do you run a worlds biggest type     set up course and charge to play while selling stugg

or      ice bowl ish   ???

'prevent' heat stroke open  ?

boiler fund disc golf

disc a palooza for st walts

im thinking    set up nine and charge to play     worlds type (get a disc)

how much should be charged  ?   disc cost + ???  =  what  ??  help

when is another issue   ?  weekends  or holiday   Mem day, july 5  and labor day im off                   any thoughts  ?

insurance  issues     (i think this could be "deal killer")
who pays if disc breaks car window  ?
ankle in hole twist type of thing   ?

still working up courage to present something formally

Sorry.  Responded to the wrong post.  Disc golf is not going to make a significant dent in a $57,000 furnace bill.  Especially given the almost exclusive disjunction between the set of people who put money in the offering plate and the set of people who play disc golf.  That's why Ice Bowls are about feeding the poor.  Who is for starving the poor?

just looking to spread the disc golf word
create a little awareness of the sport
have a lot of fun

raise a little dough

ive worked several mkt days, sold cookies to everyone
refused to do the gift wrap thing,  gone to super bowl partys
summer golf outings, vegas nites etc   etc  etc

when brett metioned the final 4 thing
my natural instinct is i'm in no problem
its for charity

turkey bowl  ?

ideas ???      reasonable goals    ???
