Title: Lake County Pay to Play
Post by: CEValkyrie on October 19, 2012, 10:29:20 AM
I talked to Chuck Kennedy yesterday. He's in the process of working with Camp Henry Horner on developing a pay to play disc golf course. The Executive Director of Round Lake Park District has a relationship with the owner of the camp and that is how they got Chuck's name. It's located a few miles away from Fairfield on Nippersink Rd.

Kenny's brother works at the camp. Last year Kenny & I helped set up a super short camper friendly course in a very small open area.

He's going to be stopping in over Chirstmas to check out the land. From what I've seen of the land there it has adequate features and room to create a Blue (Advanced) Level course that Chuck wants to do. He said if the land is good enough the course could possibly open Spring 2013.

Hopefully it works out!

Have you ever walked what used to be 4 winds golf course? It was on 176 just east of Fairfield I believe? I know it closed several years ago and have often wondered about its disc golf potential.

I have walked it and it would have been perfect for disc golf. It had rolling hills, water, and cart paths for out of bounds. Unfortunately the LCFPD purchased that land and their stance on disc golf has not changed  >:(

I spent a couple of hours with Chuck this afternoon. He was there the entire day. There is enough room and quality land for a solid Blue & Red level course. Once this project is completed that is going to give Lake County some fantastic golf.

One thing I forgot. There is a brand new building that will be used for the office and pro shop. Hole #1 & 18 will be pretty close to it.

So are you telling us that with Fairfield there will be two championship caliber courses within a few miles of each other and they will be less than 20 miles from Silver Lake?  So, 2016 Worlds?

You are correct Dave. Chuck is hoping to make this a good mix of wooded/open. A creek will come into play on several holes. He's looking at par around 60 and a distance around 6,000ft.

I would not expect this course to be playable until 2014.
