I thought the somewhat new PDGA round rated singles leagues was interesting especially since the ratings would be included as a PDGA rated round. Was there any consideration by discontinuum to start a league next year as such? Wish I had the time to run this myself.
We only had 6 people for doubles on a 60 degree day in December last Sunday, so I'm not sure when/where you could setup a singles league and get good participation. Personally, I do enjoy singles play much more than doubles, although I'm not sure how you'd handicap it to make it interesting. That is why doubles is so much more popular. More people feel like they have a chance.
Both Fox Valley Metro and J-town ran sanctioned handicap singles leagues this past summer. Jtown was on Tuesdays, FVM was on Thursdays.
I'd be in for a singles league if it fit with my work schedule. I honestly don't enjoy random draw doubles at all.
Dan,
You could play for the rating, and use a handicap for payouts. One way to handicap would be to take the rating for a particular round and subtract the associated player's current rating and sort based on the greatest difference. The higher the difference the higher you place.
