WILD ICE BOWL LEAGUE DOUBLES THANG
02/15/04
10:00AM
Twin Lakes Park
Wildwood, IL
This is not official yet. It's in the works.
DISContinuum will be hosting an Ice Bowl again this year. We are making it simple & incorporating it into our doubles league.
1. DISContinuum will be hosting our usual Winter Doubles League on 02/15/04 at Twin Lakes Park. Fees will be the same as usual $6.00 + Optional $1.00 ACE & Cash CTP. For informaiton go to Leagues & Tournaments & find Winter League 2004. There is an attached document with all the information you will need about rules, payouts, & fees.
*The only difference from regular league is that it is mandatory that you bring some kind of canned item(s) for charity(PADS). We will be posting what item(s) PADS accept. *-> thus making this a charity Ice Bowl-> Wild Ice Bowl League Doubles Thang.
2. A 9 hole temporay course will be set up @ Twin Lakes Park in Wildwood, IL. Jim Klem has been working on a design to get this short course in the ground @ Twin Lakes Park. This will be you chance to come on out & play it for the first time. Jim would like to get some feedback from local players about the design.
3. We will need 9 temporary baskets. I know we have several but please set this date aside.
4. If possible, it would be nice to leave the baskets in the ground for a casual round after best shot open for anyone to play. It might depend on the weather too.
You can use my pin if you need.

Definitely!
No wimps! No whiners! :P
I will ask each player to evaluate each hole simply as GOOD or NO GOOD, then look at limited options after the Best Shot round.
Please remember this is a SMALL course, where your drives will be like approaches or long putts. It will be a feeder course, for beginners and family games.
It will, however, test your accuracy and penalize you for errors. A few water hazard shots and some nasty thornbrush.
I predict, for this WILD ICE BOWL LEAGUE DOUBLES THANG, the best team score will be a 40.
This should be a lot of fun!
Sounds like it might be a good course for an Ace Race event too.
QuoteSounds like it might be a good course for an Ace Race event too.
It would be great for an ace race.
It would be nice to get 9 skillshots out there. Since it is a short course, it may provide more of a challenge than putting on my Mach3 or a Mach15.
So who has a skillshot?

Mach 3
Jon has a skillshot too.
IceBowl, yay!!
I've never been to that town let alone the course, good stuff?
I'm getting a Portable Innova Discatcher for X-Mas- if you guys need to borrow an extra basket.
The course is still in the planning phase, so the ice bowl would be played on the proto course.
This sounds very cool and I have a skillshot I can provide as well.
My friend also has a skill shot that Im sure I could borrow if hes to much of a wimp to come play in the cold.

So Danny, Myk, Damon, Jon, Jay, & his friend have skillshot. That's 6. Only 3 more needed.
Even if you friend is a wimp, you could still barrow his skillshot. :D

Jim,
I need your contact for PADS so that I can find out what needs they have. Then I'll include that on the flyer. I'd like to have a flyer by this weekend.
Thanks
Jon,
Could you add discs will be for sale & club memberships w/bag tags will be available for purchase on the flyer?
QuoteJon,

Sure. Can I get permission from the President to order two official Ice Bowl discs as prizes for the winning team? They would be a donation from the club to the process, because we aren't collecting any additional money besides the regular league fees.

I would have no problem with you ordering 2 official Ice Bowl Discs for the winners. Any club members agree or disagree? I'll PM you too Jon. I have another idea.
i agree
but that makes sense since im going to try to be there
dang
date just got filled
with family obligation
I think the Ice Bowl discs would be great first place prizes! :D
I am going to donate a disc as a CTP for the League/Ice Bowl on 2-15. Anyone else want to donate a disc? It would be nice to get 7 more so there are 8 CTP's for discs & 1 for cash.
I will be happy to donate a disc.
Cool, so only 6 more & we have 9 CTP's. Sweet!! Thanks Jim. :D
I think I still have a disc I can donate. Put me down for one. [/font]:D
Awesome, only 5 to go. Thanks Tree!!
I got one! I got one! I'll bring it this sunday.
QuoteAwesome, only 5 to go. Thanks Tree!!
i'll do one
I have one to donate.
AWESOME!!! Only 3 to go. Thanks guys.
I suppose I could find one in my secret stash of plastic in the basement....
SWEET!!!!!
Webmasters-> Is there any way to edit the topic to this thread? Didn't realize until today that I put 2003 instead of 2004 :o .
Also, i'll be at leagues this week if anyone wants to give me those donated CTP Discs. I won't be there on January 25th I'll be there the following 2 weeks, February 1st & 8th. If you don't plan attending any doubles, let me know & i'll make arrangements to meet. I'd like to get them prior to the event so I can label them. Looks like we'll have more than 9 CTP's :D .
Dumbass.... :P
Yeah, I got you covered.
QuoteDumbass.... :P
Yeah, I got you covered.
Thanks Smartass :D .
I played the Firefighters Ice Bowl today. 8-10 inches of snow, 18 degrees, 50 players. They sold soft mulligans for 5 cans of food or $3 each. Amateurs could buy up to five. They also played, "Lost disc is penalty enough," which is a longstanding Brakel Brothers rule. They did not play, "Self-caught throw is no throw at all," but playing an Ice bowl gave me some ideas for running one.
At small unsanctioned stuff around here we usually just have Open, Am 1, Am 2, Am 3 and sometimes Am Women or Juniors. There were enough old men for an Am Masters today but we all played Am 1 except one or two old guys who played Am 3.
So I played Am 1 in a field of about 24 and did o.k. I've been practicing putting outside in the cold every day and putting kept me in third, one or two strokes off the lead, throughout the morning. I finished third and traded tag 100 for tag 8! I beat some 930 rated players and felt like I played pretty good.
But shuffling through ten inches of snow looking for lost discs on every hole was exhausting. I found four abandonned lost discs and repatriated them to their home bags. I lost a turkey crush. Where is the justice in that?
---------------
I am not coming out for your Ice Bowl unless Jon pays me to. I'm coming out for those Illinois Open tournies.
For my Ice Bowl we are playing a temporary course on a golf course, but it will be par three disc golf, not golf course disc golf. We are playing doubles and making divisions based on combined rating. Tracy, my golf course contact, is recovering from surgery so I am looking at a lot of work getting the course set up.
Right now we have 6 donated CTP discs with more to come. We will have 8 Disc CTP's & 1 Cash CTP. Several disc CTP's will be for multiple discs.
I spoke with Chuck Martin today. He is cool with us doing Best Shot at Twin Lakes on Feb 15. Other members of the Wildwood Park District BOD may attend along with Chuck, to check out what DG is all about. Please be prepared  <_< and be professional, as you guys always are. Can someone volunteer to take photos please?
The Ice Bowl idea didn't fly so well. He'd rather keep this event simple because of the arson fire at the park recently. Seems some local kids torched one of the storage/facility buildings on the east side of the park in Oct. Understandably, the WwPD may be timid with pouring money into a park that gets vandalized. There is a BOD meeting tomorrrow night and Chuck will be able to clarify things after that. Jon, I'll PM you and Brett.
But Chuck is optimistic about the course and the future of the park, and we briefly spoke about doing a Grand Opening in April or May and inviting the neighborhood's families. Like a mini-Worlds Biggest.
Possible installation day, Saturday March 20th.
Talked to Chuck Martin last night. He said that the Wildwood Park District wants to go ahead with the course installation and all is okey dokey. I'm sending him a flyer to pass around the immediate WW neighborhood and I'm including IceBowl charity info, but I'm downplaying it a lot. I really don't want to piss off a park district we just started working with, but I do not want to back out of a commitment we made with PADS. We'll work it all out and it will be fine.
Chuck said that there will be other WPD commissioners/committeemembers at our 'THANG' so see what disc golf is all about. Some of the neighborhood residents will surely come out as well, maybe not to play, but to see what the heck these weird frisbee players are up to.
^_^
So lets play well, have fun, and give away a lot of CTP discs!
Cool. I don't think there should be a problem. It's really no big THANG anyway. Regular leagues with some collecting of canned goods for charity. :D.
ah, censorship
can I say cold blooded buttholes??
Anyone that has volunteered to donate a CTP, could you please bring them to leagues either this Sunday or next. If you don't plan on playing leagues I can arrange to meet you.
Also, I'd like to collect the skillshots the week before. I'm planning on getting to the course early & getting is set up. If you aren't using your skillshots, can you give them to me.
Thanks
Brett
Will directions be given out this Sunday?
I know Wildwood is around the Lake County fairgrounds/CLC area but I have no clue where the course is located..

We are still accepting donations. Thanks
There is a possibility that i've located 2 more skillshots. If those 2 come thru, that would make 8.
Is there anyone else that knows anyone with a skillshot. We only need 1 more. I know a bunch of people have other portables but it'd be nice to play on all skillshots.
Here's the Ice Bowl Flyer. Please distribute to all that might be interested. Jim, can you put one in the Bevier message board? Brett, can you put one in the Fairfield message board?
Thanks!
Cool Flyer! I'll post one up @ Fairfield & Adler.

Thanks to many club members we now have 9 skillshots for the Ice Bowl. Thanks for letting us barrow them & those who have arranged to deliver them to me. Awesome. Thanks guys!!
Here are the DR DYED snowflakes for the Ice Bowl Thang, more like geometric snowflakes. And a disc donated from me for a CTP(I think), it looks sick spinning. I just put up my first video of a disc spinning, looks just like the donated disc, watch the video let me know what you think. Suggestions for better vid are welcome.

Super easy, feel stupid I didnt try to figure it out sooner!!!
I am out of ribbion unless you want shiny silver or black, no more bright colored ribbion for your Viking.
Hmm..... In that case just bring duct tape tomorrow. I still have orange in the car.
HHUUUUURRRRLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ace Pool will start @ $61.00+.
Great Prizes & CTP's.
Everything is ready to go. 8)
Please remember to bring some kind of donated item. Preferrably several. All donations will go to (PADS) Public Action to Deliver Shelter. There is a flyer with the PADS wishlist attached to this thread.
My goal is to have the course set up by 8:30AM. Jim & I are planning on getting there around 7:30AM. Jay & Jon, please get there fairly early with your baskets. Thanks :D .
Attached is a document that i've been using. CTP's are listed but may change depending on other donations. It also list prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & DFL.
Wait one second.....
after reading Brett's VERY detailed flyer, I am under the impression that we're going to have 18 CTPs, not just 2 chances at 9 CTPs.
WOW!!! That is simply incredible!
THANKS to all who donated CTP prizes and/or use of baskets! That is tremendous dOoDs!
QuoteWait one second.....

There will be 9 CTP's. Since we will be playing 2 rounds of 9 holes it's too hard to keep track of 2 separate flags. I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible. We won't be taking a break between the nine holes to collect the flags then set out new ones. There potentially could be a 4'some on each hole. There will be 1 flag at each hole with a sharpie attached. You will have 2 chances to win 1 CTP for each hole. Most CTP's will win you 2 discs. Hope this clears things up.
OK, I understand. Thanks.
THAT'S STILL FABULOUS!!!
The ace pool will be good for the entire day, right? (split if multiple winners...)
QuoteThe ace pool will be good for the entire day, right? (split if multiple winners...)
The Ace Pool will be open for the 18 Hole Best Shot Ice Bowl. If multiple aces are hit, they will split the pot. Every hole will be aceable but may be tough since we are shooting at skillshots.
If you have a camera, could you please bring it and try to take a few pictures. I'm going to bring mine. Let's get a ton of pictures in 2004.
I will be unable to attend the Ice Bowl Thang . Jon is attending tho. My grandfather died last weekend and I need to be with my family. (I'm also making an airport run at noon on Sunday....playing would make that difficult).
Sorry to hear that, Becky. We'll miss you!
I spoke with Chuck Martin (WWPD) last night. He'll be at the park @ 8am with some donuts for those who get there real early and help set up. I'm bringing a box o'joe. Chuck seemed excited about this event and is trying to get some media coverage.
He also informed me that flyers for this event were hand-delivered to over 75 neighborhood residents, giving them a personal invitation to come and see how disc golf will be beneficial for theie Twin Lakes Park. Some may even want to play (that would be SO cool). If we do get some new folks to play, or even if we just happen to snag a few spectators, we might want to put on a quick (10 min.) demo/lesson for their benefit.
Please remember to:
- bring food (canned food, paper goods, laundry goods, new clothing, school supplies)
- bring your SkillShot baskets
- dress warmly (latest forecast says 20-25 degrees with 10-15 mph winds)
- bring money to renew club membership or purchase BagTags or discs
- bring a friend or three
- have FUN!!!
One last thing: when you see Chuck Martin (or other WWPD folks) on the course, please THANK them for working with us and having the good sense to install a disc golf course in Wildwood!!!
:D  :)
QuotePlease remember to:
- bring your SkillShot baskets
I have 5 at home ready to go. Need these 4 to show up.

Thanks to everyone who->
1. Let us use their skillshot.
2. Helped set up & tear down the course.
3. Donated prizes for CTP's.
4. Donated items for PADS.
5. Showed up & made this event a ton of fun.
6. That is getting Twin Lakes Course installed this spring.
Every CTP & Prize Item was donated by club members & DISContinuum Disc Golf Club. This event would not happen without club members like you. Thank you very much.
A ton of donations were collected for PADS. Everyone should feel great about helping this charity.
The course was very fun even though it is short. It will be a good addition to Lake County. Anyone have any comments?
Can't wait to see the article in the newspaper. I took some pictures as well.
Quote
Can I get some help?
Of course, Brett. Realizing you need help is the first step toward recovery.
B)
I won ctp #4. As I recall, Jason H. won both #1 and #2
Yes, thanks to everyone! It took a lot of people to make this all come together! THANKS especially to Brett & Jon for running the show, and to Chuck Martin who has been so very open to discovering the fun of disc golf! Oh yeah.....and the Krispy Kremes! Woo-hoo!
Brett, thanks for hauling all the SkillShots too! I'll call you to arrange a pickup.
Chuck already has a photo CD developed, which I will pick up and get to Mirth to put up on the website. Keep an eye on the News-Sun for pics and article!
We gathered 112.5 pounds of food, laundry supplies, school supplies, and clothing for PADS!!! THANKS for the generous donations! [$5 cash was donated, so to make it more convenient, I converted the cash into 4 big cans of juice.]
Would someone care to do a write-up for the website's News page?
I got the pictures back that I took at the Ice Bowl. A couple were pretty good. The others aren't all that great but that's what I get for using a diposable.

If anyone has some good ones, I'll submit them to DGWN for their yearly Ice Bowl story.
Well there were no photos in the News Sun today. Maybe tomorrow....
I'm picking up photos from Chuck on Saturday. Nothing in the News-Sun Mon or Tues, but I do have a copy of saturday's News-Sun which did promote the event. I'll get that to Myk when I see him.
This picture has Tim Davis driving on #3. Did anyone see the newspaper. I did not get a chance to see it.
AFAIK it hasn't been in the paper yet. No mention of it on the News Sun's website other than the ad that ran the day before.
Jon-> Basket returned
Myk-> Basket returned
Jim-> Basket returned
Kyle, Josh, Joe T.-> Gave baskets to Myk D. to return on 02-22-04 (Thanks Myk!!)
Jay-> I still have both baskets
Damon-> I still have your basket.
Jay & Damon,
I'll be at leagues for the next few weeks.
Our Ice Bowl has been officially reported to the Ice Bowl Gods. Jim, please send a photo or two to Rick.
Thanks everyone for making this year's Ice Bowl a good time!!!
Chuck dropped off the CD of pics he took at IB04. Some were OK. I'll route them to Mirth to post and also send Rick the best 3 images.
Also, I will call the News-Sun today and ask WTF? I've seen nothing, and I've been scouring the News-Sun, Sun-Times, and Trib.

They don't always run everything that they shoot. It might have gotten bumped. Please let us know if they tell you anything.
If anything, see if they'd be willing to part with the pictures - especially if they're not going to run it. Of course, its doubtful they would in any case, but worth a shot....
I finally got a hold of Linda at PADS and will be dropping off our donations tomorrow. And yes, I will get a receipt. ^_^
Also, I have now left two messages for Tom Delaney, head photographer at the News-Sun. I wonder, will we have to pay for those photographs?
The only way I could see us having to pay for any photos is if they would part with copies without them being published. Its certainly not our responsibility for them just because they never got into print.
I meant paying for obtaining copies, whether they publish them or not. Would we have to sign an agreement of property rights or something?
That answer, alas, I know not.

We need a receipt sent to Rick if we want to be eligible for prizes. But since we neither raised the most or had the most participants or had the most snow, I doubt we would be in the running for anything anyway.
I just spoke with Tom Delaney at the News Sun. He said that the story might not run soon, if at all, because local high school sports are dominating the sports pages. Then there's March Madness. So, a fringe sport like ours looses out.
I asked if we could get copies of photos. He said yes, but only if they run in the paper. And then we would have to pay $10 per image.
I told him to have a nice day.......
Tom just sent me a fax.
It is for ordering photo reprints.
They are not $10 each.
They are $25 each.
I'll call my sugar daddy and get right on that......

DISC GOLF: Charity Tournament at Twin Lakes Park in Wildwood
It's always Golf Season
Well, OK, maybe the weather this week isn't ideal for teeing up on your local 18-hole course. But, apparently, the sport of disc golf is always in season. a new disc golf course is being designed at Twin lakes park in Wildwood and, as these "golfers" are showing, you can pretty much play a round in any type of weather. The event was held as a fund-raiser for PADS, which provides shelter for homeless in this area.

Too bad they did not mention the club! dangit!
