Title: Innova Plastic
Post by: Bruce Brakel on February 02, 2004, 07:24:39 AM
So, of the stuff that Innova is coming out with right now, ordinary 2004 factory plastic, what are Innova throwers looking for?  Are the Aviar and Roc still the meat and potatoes on any Innova plate?  And what are the popular long range drivers?

Only thing you ever need from Innova, and once Gateway comes out with their "Roc" I'll only carry two innova discs.

DX plastic:  Rocs, Beast, Aviar, Firebird and Teebirds

Candy:  Orc, Beast, Firebird, Monster, Valk and Whippets.  Yes Whippets, they are hot with the good players down here because when it slows in flight it drops and will not skip or hyser out.

There is a run of older KC/SE plastic coming out in a month and they are running Rocs, Teebirds and Eagles for a fundraiser disc that will sell for 15.  If you want hot sellers get these.  The Rocs will sell out first as people have been asking for SE Rocs for about 3-4 years.

The USDGC CE Rocs should be out anyday now.  I beleive they are releasing Glow CE Rocs for around 40 that come with some special certificate signed by Barry and Kenny.  The other CE Rocs are sweet, a few really neat looking translucent stuff that changes to a purple color in the sun.  They fly nice to, got to try one today.

I'm loving my SE Roc...Shawn, if you come across one can you let me know. The one I have now is an "ace disc" (#5 Parkside). I haven't thrown it in a long time so I don't lose it.

Joe, the one that I threw had no stamp, was quite like the 03's.  More stable then the 2001's.  Heard that the Glows were going to have a sweet stamp.  The clear ones have 4-5 different stamps.  I'm sure they do that for collectors.  Not sure what the stamps are yet.  Zonedriven has my # to call me as soon as they are released.

Serg, I am most likely going to buy a few of the SE Rocs.  They will be around for a few months after they get released.  I'll keep you posted...Uncle Joe and Sandy Point will most likely be getting some.

I love Rocs...  throwin' n' climbin'...all good.

Joe, did you get any of the CE Rocs?  I only got a few glows...got a feeling that they are going to be worth more in the long run.  I prefer the flight better then the regular CE Rocs....stable, the way a CE should be..

They clearly were not ready for releasing these discs...  not sure how long it took to get sold out but it was not long at all.

They sold out within 12 hours this year.  Unbeliveable!!!  I placed my order 20 min. after they went on sale, good thing I did.  I dont think anyone could have known they would sell out so fast.  Last year it took 2 weeks to sell out.  I got my hands on 2 reg Rocs, 2 Glow.  Thats all I could afford.  Had I known that the glows wouldnt sell out, I think I would have bought more regular ones, and bought my glows now.  I too think the glows will be worth more in the long run.  Oh well, to late now.  I got 1 pearl white 170 with the Ring of Rocs stamp, 1 clear green 180 6 star stamp-in my bag!!!  2 glows, 174, and 177.  The #'s on the glows are #222 and #324 of 1550.

I went out and threw the clear mean green 180 Roc today.  Definatly stable!!!  But great glide.  I was overshooting a few of the holes at Parkside from the shorts with it.  I had a really great line on #2, but it was just a little to far and into the bush.

Overall, I love it!!!  I kinda knew I would!!!  What do you think of the glows???  They throw like normal glow Rocs?  I usually prefer a Glow Roc, as opposed to a DX, but this new candy USDGC Roc will probably soon become my favorite!!!!  I would like to pull out on of the glows to throw, but dont think I will unless I buy more of them.

I bought 2 glows, got one in the bag...your more then welcome to try it when I see ya this spring.  More stable then my most stable Roc (new KC 11x), not sure if it has more glide.  Need to test it more...

Speaking of the new 2004 CE Rocs: does anyone know of any being sold other than on eBay? I've been looking to try and find at least one, preferrably 2. I played with Joe and Myk this weekend and watched Joe's just glide and keep a beautiful line...beautiful sight!

Shawn, any news of the SE Rocs?

I saw that Roc on PDGA too.  Nice use of a sticker, that $3 sticker will probably add $30 to the total value of the disc.  To easy for me, I would feel like I am cheating or something.  It looks cool though.

I have to agree, Doc...your designs are much more unique. Well, after searching and searching I went ahead and put in bids on eBay. I bought one with Buy It Now for $40 and ended up winning another one that I had a bid on. I thought for sure I would have been outbid. One has the circle claw design, the other is the Hole #5. Can't wait to get 'em!

Picked up a few of the regular CE Rocs from Innova, heard threw the grapevine they found some so I had a friend hold on to them for me.  They are going to do it better next year from what I heard...to much confusion with people buying 50 on a few accounts.  People are making easy money selling them for on e-bay and all.  Oh well..

Have not heard anything about the release of the SE Rocs... but the test runs are pretty stable.

Got to see and try the new 1rst run proline aviars.  Very grippy plastic.. I don't really care for aviars but aviar throwers were loving them.

Latest hottest thing out.....

x'ed out glow ce rocs...with the climo..barry stamp.  the x is perfectly centered and same color as stamp...looks better then the 40 dollar disc.

Shawn: Are the Pro Line's anything like the Champion Aviars...as far as the rim goes? I like Aviars, but the Champion plastic is pretty sharp. If they're anything like the Aviars that have the Southeastern WI DGC Tiki God stamp I'll look more into it. Thanks.

I got my Super Rocs to day also. Had to go throw one. So I played a round at Parkside using this disc only. They are nice and grippy and seemed to be a a little overstable to me. Worked pretty good even in the wind. Certainly worth keeping in the bag for more research.

Got mine Friday. Threw one in practice (might save the 2nd one as an 'investment' if they're suddenly 'rare', but my impression is that it won't be a collector's item like the CEs are) and really liked it, but wasn't confident enough with it to use it in actual rounds over the weekend.

It's a little more overstable than a DX Roc for me (I got a 170), and it really feels cool.

If anyone is interested in purchasing the Aviars I talked to Mike at SunKing. He has some for $9.99 compared to the $11.00 at ZoneDriven. PLUS the club discount means that shipping is usually free (compared to approx. $5 at ZD). Comes out to at least a $6 saving. Just thought I would let interested individuals know.

i got the super roc, and the new pro teebird and aviar.  The teebird has already become one of my favorite drivers and i have only played about 50 holes with it. I dont know what it is but i throw it just as far as my beast and straighter than any thing i have ever thrown. The super roc is also sweet. Once it breaks in a little bit i might throw it a little better but it works good for now. Not to sure about the pro aviar. I think I'll stick with my discraft putt'r. Just wondering if anyone has thrown a starfire?

I have two, a max weight that is being dyed at the moment, and a 172 viking in my trunk

The 172 is to unpredictable, I can throw it and flip it, and then I can throw it and it'll go forever.. I think the beast is still the most consistant distance driver out.. I know many would disagree with the new Crushes and Orcs, but it's just my opinion
Title: Innova Plastic

I have two vikings in my bag... A 162 & a 175. In perfect conditions I can launch the 162 forever, but if I snap it too hard it just flips over.

Like Diron said, my Champ. Beast is more predictable than the Vikings.

I have a 175G Viking. It compares to my more stable CE Valks except is has a little more fade at the end of it's flight. It is definitely not a good head wind disc but can be a great straight flyer if you don't try to over power it.

I didn't want to start a new topic so I'm posting in here: What discs are people throwing when there is a little stronger wind, especially head wind?

The two drivers I've been throwing are a Cheetah and a Beast. The Cheetah gets tossed around; the Beast flies pretty well. Just wondering what some other options might be to try.

hey Serg, try a firebird or a monster for these strong winds we got.  For shorter holes in a strong headwind I throw a CE Viper, it always hysers out no matter how strong the wind is.

Just to let you guys know, I am back in K-town...right next to parkside accually.  My computer is not yet hooked up to the net so I'll have to post as a guest for a while.  My # is the same..704-604-3553.

QuoteWhat discs are people throwing when there is a little stronger wind, especially head wind?
When driving I typically throw a beast.  When the big winds start though heres what I throw..

Drivers - Proline/CE - Firebirds. If it's an extreme wind I throw a Speed Demon

Midrange - G5i Demon (it's like the CE-Firbird of midranges)

Thanks alot. I appreciate the comments.

I do have a Monster but haven't thrown it yet. I'll give it a try. I think I have a Firebird. It's a logo disc and I can't really read the writing on the bottom...it's either a Teebird or Firebird.

Shawn: You'll have to make sure you let me know when you play during the week. I usually get out of work around 4:30. Now that it's staying lighter later we can probably play longer. Either email me or PM for my phone number, or I'll call you and give it to you.

Same goes for anyone else who wants to get together and play Parkside during the week.

I am so glad to be selling Innova.  How glad?  $40 per day glad, every day this week, working one hour a day.  That's $18 an hour in profit for playing nine holes and then eating a sandwich with my trunk open.  And the sandwich only costs about 35 cents!  It is helping that the kids are off for spring break and the weather has been good.

My DX Firebird that is beat throws similar to my CE Firebird FX. I have not thrown a Champion Firebird.

To sum it up, I can't answer you question  .

I've got a 166 Pro Firebird that's extremely overstable, and it seems to NOT fight the wind like it should, but I just need to figure out how to throw it, I think.

I like DX Firebirds into the wind; they do beat up fairly quickly (although not as fast as DX Valkyries) but then you've got a good roller disc - I had one that was my favorite forehand roller til my brain cramped a few weeks ago and I left it on the ground

So anyone with beatup 170-ish DX Firebirds, let me know....  ;)  I've got LOTS of stuff to trade...

On the rare occasions I've thrown a driver in the last few months it's been a DX firebird.

I have a proline and a newer champion, but they're both way to overstable for my arm. I saw a post from Dave at Innova on the PDGA boards saying all the champion firebirds being produced now are FXs which would explain why they are so overstable.
