Lake County's first "Health, Sport & Golf Expo" is Feb. 21 at the College of Lake County (Grayslake) from 10:30AM to 4:00PM.
I was contacted about a month back asking if i'd like to be a vendor for this event. I explained that I was the President of DISContinuum Disc Golf Club. The event coordinator worked out a deal with me. We will be allowed to set up a few portable baskets and have putting demonstrations in the gym @ CLC. We will be able to promote disc golf, DISContinuum Disc Golf Club, & the PDGA.
The event is being advertised on WLXC 102.3 FM out of Waukegan & in the Lakeland Newspaper.
Anyone interested in helping let me know. Sorry about the short notice but all details were not finalized until a few days ago.
I will help you with the morning part.

Cool. Jim said he'd be able to take care of the afternoon. Do you still have the day off of work Myk? Let me know if you are still interested.
Thanks
Yeah, I'm in!! Just let me know what time I need to get there, and the address of the place so I can get some directions together. Jojo, want me to bring a couple discs and sell 'em for ya?

Myk,
It would probably be best if you could show up in the afternoon around 1:00PM. I have to leave about 1:30 or so. Jon & I will cover the morning while you & Jim take the afternoon.
Take Grand Ave (132) West thru Gurnee
Turn Left (South) on Rte 45
Take Route 45 to Washington.
Turn right on Washington & the entrance to CLC is on the left.
The gym area is one of the first buildings on the right hand side of the parking lot.
So who wants my presence? The morning or afternoon crew? :D
We got dibbs on Jay!!

Maybe you can work the swing shift to cover the lunch rush! :D
So Brett & Jon will be working the 10:30Am to 1:30PM shift. Myk & Jim will be working the 1:00PM to 4:00PM shift. Jay is undecided as of now but any time would be awesome. Anyone else interested in helping, feel free. I have no idea what to expect since this is the first time going to the event.
Myk-> Is it ok if I set your skillshot up at the expo & can I drop Kyle/Josh skillshots to you. I want to make sure Josh gets his before he moves.
Jay-> Should I bring you skillshots to the expo to give to you?
Jim-> I'm going to set your skilshot at the expo. I figured if we use Myk & your skillshot, all you guys have to do is tearem down they are back in your hands. Jim, do you have your bag for the skillshot?
Jon-> I'll have your skillshot on Saturday.
Great.
Yep, I have the bag for Danny's SkillShot.
When shall we get together so I can give you the new handouts?

I will be driving to Mirth's house tonight around 7pm to drop off the league stuff for Sunday. Would you like to meet me there? If not, Friday i'm totally booked & then Saturday is the day. Do I need to make copies? If so, I need to get them tonight some how.
No, I'm booked tonight big time.
I need to be at Grand & 294 early Saturday morning (9am-10am). Can we meet then? If not, I can drop 'em off at CLC right before or after that.

I'm going to be cutting it short getting to CLC in the morning. I have to be there by 10:00AM. My parents are coming up for a basketball game then staying the night so I have some work to do around the house Saturday morning. If you can make it to CLC, that is cool, but if not, I have the old material that will work. You can just bring the other stuff with you that afternoon.
I'll do my best to be at CLC at 10am, then come back at 1:00.
Yeah, that's all good with the baskets. When did you want to drop them off, or have me pick them up. I'm free all week.

I'll give them to you Saturday if you are going to be at the Expo.

Myk, yer such a crackhead
I'll be at the Expo, no problems. :D
Yes, the crack is good.
Brett, shall we hook up on your way to the Expo? I just realized I still have the banner.
The new Disc Golf Infopaks look good and aren't that different from the old ones. How many old ones do you have left?

I didn't count them but i'm guessing at least 20. That box you gave me was full. Do you want to meet me @ CLC? Probably about halfway between Waukegan/Round Lake.
We do have the info cards on disc golf as well. My goal is to get a disc in hand to as many people as possible on Saturday. Having them attempting putts will get them going.
You are correct, sir.
At the demos I've done, people are usually skeptical - until they make that first putt. Then it's like they've caught a glimpse of god, and can't stop looking (or putting).
Jon, Will you have any Illinois Open Series flyers?
QuoteJon, Will you have any Illinois Open Series flyers?
I won't have any for tomorrow. Did not know that was a priority. I didn't think this was really a tournament attending audience, I thought this was an introductory audience.

It's no big deal. It wasn't on the priority list. I would like to get them to start laminating & posting when this weather breaks. I have no clue what kind of audience it will be. I figured any promotion is good promotion.
What a day!
Paul, Myk, and I showed up at 1pm, and we didn't have a moment's peace until shut-down at 4pm. It looked like Brett and Jon had a very busy morning as well.
It was a Sports, Health & Fitness Expo, with maybe 30 booths. About 26 of them were for ball golf. 2 were chiropractors, 1 was Daily Herald, then our disc golf booth. Our area was 3x bigger than the rest - room enough to set up 2 baskets!
Folks of all ages stepped up and tried some putts. We passed out prizes of golf balls and towels (donated by Lakeland Press) for those that did well. We handed out more than 50 Infopaks and spoke to over 100 people. I was able to corner representatives from Zion Park District and the Lake County Forest Preserve and discuss course installations.
We had a blast!
I had no idea what to expect yestarday. I ended up having a blast & a ton of people were able to throw a few discs. I'm guessing from 10:30 to 1:00PM 150-200 people stopped by.
Tammy Marchetta, the event organizer, did a fantastic job!! She arranged prizes for the putting game(similar to bozo grand prize game).
Since the prizes were golf towels & golf balls, all the ball golf players wanted to try it just to win prizes. There was a broad range of ages. Some had never heard of disc golf. I had several guys say they hadn't played in years but they would have to go dust off their discs. It was good promotion of the game.
Lakeland Newspaper took some picutures. Hopefully I can find a copy.
