Fox Valley Open

The Fox Valley Open took place yesterday up in Kaukauna, which is about 20 minutes north of Appleton.  There were 75 players total. The course is short with a few elevation changes.  The back 9 is very short, pitch and putt nothing over 250', except for hole 17.  Hole 17 is the signature hole for this course.  I am guessing it goes out about 240 with a creek on the left and thick woods on the right.  At that point there is a sharp dog leg to the right and the hole goes another 200' with a creek running along the left side and woods on the right.  The pin placement in on a little peninsula with water on three sides. I don't think there was more than a handful of threes on this hole, and I know that there were some sevens on this hole.

The weather held up well enough, no rain the first round and a few sprinkles the second round.

Steve Nichols who played Advanced Master shot a 9 down the first round for a 1013 rated round.  Not exactly Advanced Master ratings. Steve would have finished second in open for the day. My game was definitely not in his league this tourney.

I wouldn't sweat comparing your game to Nichols. There's another thread around here regarding Steve, but he's not going to play Open until/unless he's forced to, although rumor has it he's 'only holding out' til Am Worlds in Milwaukee next year.

There's another 'Steve Nichols' in FL, apparently, who shot a couple of really bad rounds down there this winter which look to be mistakenly applied to the WI Steve Nichols. The one up here is well over 950, not 914...
