The Grange -Spotsylvania , VA.

 finally got myself down to Spotsylvania, VA for the Virginia Open at the Grange.
Maybe some of you have played here either in the Two Days in May event or the Old Dominion tournaments. For those of you who haven't I'll fill you in.

The Grange is private property owned by musician, disc golfer and all around great guy, Mike Trapasso. It features two disc golf courses and a par 2 tiki golf course which is playable at night thanks to neon lights threaded through the baskets.

The Sunnyside course is 2/3 in the woods and 1/3 in the open. The open holes feature drastic elevation changes. There are a few difficult tight wooded holes that could sting you but overall it's difficulty pales in comparison to the Darkside.

The Darkside is very tight and while the fairways are very fair the rough is so unforgiving that any drive off the fairway is pretty much an instant 4 or worse. If you're more than a few feet in the rough the only sane play is a putt back to the fairway. I don't care how good you think your thumber, tomahawk or forehand roller is most of the time you'll turn a 4 into a 5,6,7 or worse if you insist on going for the green from in the rough.

You may know that the Darkside is the course that the highest rated round ever in tournament play was shot by Brian Skinner last year with his 41. After playing this course I think it should have been rated closer to 1150. You have to really be on your game to get more than 6-7 birdies here and he got 14 of them, the fact that he only got one 4 is also amazing and witnesses said his par putt lipped out on that one. There is currently a $2000 bounty on anyone who beats this record. Most people will tell you this money should be safe for a very, very long time
