If the Illinois Open Series offered SuperClass at IOS #1 at Bevier, with two options, pro and am, on the opposite days from Open and Advanced, and for the same entry fee...

Since Open and Advanced are not on the same day you are saying you will consider having one division of Superclass each day. One day Pro and the other day Am.   In essence Pros would then have a way to play both days.  Ams would have a choice between playing donor Pro or SuperClass on the off day.  Ams like me would have a choice of playing pro Superclass or Rec  or perhaps adv GM on the off day.

I think I would rather play adv GM or Rec before Pro Superclass on the rare weekend when I can play both days.

Yeah, us Grandmasters wind up with a lot of choices, with or without SuperClass. 

I was looking at going out to the Loriella to play Am Master Saturday and Pro grand on Sunday.  Other things came up and I'm staying home, but it's nice to have all the choices. 

But right now we have 90 looks and four players expressing any interest, so that does not bode well for SuperClass.  The TD has to pay a separate sanctioning and insurance on SuperClass, so it's not something you can do for just a handful of players.

I think that before Super Class will start working in a sanctioned tournament setting, some clubs need to start running Super Class leagues or mini events. That will both help gauge and generate interest in the format. Until then, I don't think I'd spend the effort on a sanctioned level.

That would also mean a separate TD report...for split day it would mean two extra TD reports. This one's all on you Bruce!

And I have a lot of experience with four-player TD reports, so I think I could crank it out pretty fast!   

Madeline Bertrand is probably the best course I can think of for Super Class within 100 miles of Chicago.  The original course in Sheboygan would be good too.  It is about 150 miles from Chicago.  Closer in, Lombard would be a good course for superclass, and West Park. 

I think this is what it would take for me to run a SuperClass tournament tagged onto an IOS or apart from an IOS: I would need four other players to commit to share the $100 sanctioning and insurance with me, $20 each.  If the thing were successful, we'd all have a SuperClass rating and we might even get our $20 back.  If it was unsuccessful, I think I could return unused UltraStars and Zephyrs, so we'd all just enjoy a fun couple of rounds of frisbee golf with permanent stats.  I think Chuck will even do ratings on five gators X two rounds. 

I really think if there was a demand for a Chicago area SuperClass tournament, we should do it separately from the IOS tournaments.

I really don't see a giant attaction for this.  It might be fun after league to play an extra 9 holes of Superclass just to see what happens.  It might be amusing to add 9 holes of Superclass to the club Friday afternoon tournament for grins. I would imagine doing this after the real tournament and before dark. It wouldn't have to be sanctioned.  Just do it to see if players rise or drop from their respective positions from the day's sanctioned event.

I think the attraction of Super Class is directly related to the way players came to the game.  Players who were playing frisbee golf before they were playing disc golf are more interested in a sanctioned frisbee golf alternative.  I think the place to shop for Super Class players would be at those tournaments where players break out the UltraStars for a little throw and catch after the tournament while they are waiting for scores and awards.  We don't see much of that in Illinois, si the lack of interest is not surprising. 

Kiralyn and I, by the way, have been playing a lot of UltraStar throw and catch, and on the course i've been hitting a lot of long putts.  That nose up style of throwing a frisbee straight at your partner so that it stalls and drops when it reaches them seems to translate really well to a short range straight approach shot that you're giving a chance to go in.

  i would b all over superclass!!!  is it possible 2 have it on the am day so as to not be up against pro play? i would play every tourny i could and i think other pros would to if it was available

This just in, the Super Class National Championship will be at Lemon Lake in August.  In light of that, I've reset the poll.

Unfortunately I can only get up for one day in May to the IOS since I am coaching my daughter's soccer team. I would be up for super class at another time. I just bought a heavy Zephyr last week. Bruce, if you can get lighter Zephyrs, I'd appreciate it.

Here's some unofficial information on Super Class Nationals.  It is going to be sanctioned as an A-tier.  They will be offering six divisions: Open, Pro women, Advanced, Intermediate, Recreational and Women's Advanced.  No age-based divisions.  Three rounds of 24.

I'd play a Sunday Superclass event IF I could get a few people to car pool with me to IL.  Do you know if your going to need a superclass rating to play Super Class Nationals?

if you accept cash in super class does it effect your am status for regular tourneys?

For all Super Class tournaments, your Super Class rating preempts your regular rating if you have a Super Class rating.  If you don't have a Super Class rating, your regular rating applies.  So you can play Nationals without a Super Class rating. 

I, too, think that if you have a separate rating you should have a separate pro-am status, but no one wanted to do the work to keep track of that.  Super Class cash is PDGA pro cash.  You can take prizes instead if you cash in Open and stay am.
