This year marks the tenth year anniversary of the IOS and our second event of the year will be our 50th event! In commemoration of this landmark we are going to number the events this year by their overall number. So our first event of the year will be IOS #49, the second event will be IOS #50, etc.

Please check back here for the events and dates schedule of the 2012 Illinois Open Series!

I can't believe it's been 10 years already. I joined the PDGA that year and played my first PDGA event. The first IOS was my first experience in running events. Time flies! I'd love to go back and be 26 again.

Wasn't the first IOS in Aug. 2003?  It seems like 2013 would be the 10th anniversary, but I could be wrong.  Either way, congrats on running 50 of them.  Its certainly done a lot for disc golf in this region.

post modified: I think I get what Jon is saying.  Its the 10th year in which tournaments have been run.  2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012.  Thats 10 years, not the 10th anniversary per se.

You're right Dan. I'll just call it 10 years of tournaments. Then we can celebrate the 10th Anniversary next year!

I enjoyed my role in producing the first several of those years of tournament.  That's Jon's nomenclature.  He always said he was the director and I was the producer.

All of the Innova discs I bought for the series were bought with a credit card that gave travel points.  Kelsey and I are redeeming the points this month to play World Am Dubs in Texas.  Many thanks to the IOS players.

Thanks for those great yeras Bruce. It takes serious funds to run tournaments to keep a decent stock.

If managed correctly those credit cards with points can really pay off. I had a college roommate that worked for ADM right out of college. Week to week he traveled from one plant to the other across the midwest. He charged everything to his credit cards and was paid back by the company. Over a 3 year stretch racked up some serious points. It was also pretty amazing how many free hotel rooms he racked up too.

Do you have dates or any other information on IOS #52 and #53 yet?

stpitner

These are the dates for Paper or Plastic Sports - Not all of these will be an IOS event, and some of them are still in discussion if they will be an IOS or not.  What's the difference?  From the merch perspective right now, not much.  From the remainder of the event, the difference is if it's part of the points series or not, and the biggest difference is the volunteer staff that put on the tournament.  However, my merch will be consistent at all of these events.

May 5th-6th, 2012 - IOS #49: The Dave Pitner Memorial - Channahon, IL
June 2nd-3rd, 2012 - IOS #50: Oswego Open - Oswego, IL
June 14th-17th, 2012 - Oswego PrarieFest - Oswego, IL (NOT A TOURNAMENT)
June 23rd-24th, 2012 - IOS #51: Discontinuum Presents the Sinnissippi Open - Sterling, IL
July 7th-8th, 2012 - IOS @ Location TBD (might wind up to not be an IOS)
July 21st-22nd, 2012 - Jericho Lake Park - Aurora, IL (might become an IOS?)
August 4th, 2012 - Discraft Ace Race - Oswego, IL
September 29th-30th, 2012 - Oswego Fall Classic - Oswego, IL (a reduced entry fee event!)
October 13th-14th, 2012 - IOS @ Location TBD (depends on Round Lake construction status for location)

There's more question marks than I'd like - especially when it's almost May, but that's my schedule.
