The 3rd date for the Safari Series will be Saturday, August 3rd - Parkside in Kenosha. 18 holes - long tees.  Meet at 8:45AM so we can start at 9:00AM.

The 4th date for the Safari Series will be Saturday, August 31st at 10AM, at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake.  If that is too far for peopl, we can switch it to Dretzka in Milwaukee.  Let me know your preference.

The website does say the 31st, but the asterisk also says that the date is not yet confirmed.....

I'd say we should start getting the word about the blast out NOW. The longer people know about it the higher the attendance will be.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled Safari series discussion.
Don't forget your towel!

There's just so many different tourneys happening! That's great, but it makes for difficult scheduling. I know some folks will probably be at Sandy Point, some will go to Rumbletown, etc. I want to make a schedule everyone can play. As the club gets bigger, it will get even trickier to accommodate most people. I am VERY open to ideas! :-)

How's this for now:

Post or email if you absolutely positively cannot make an event. If enough people have conflicts on a certain day, we'll move it. But please confirm about the Blast quickly, as I need to reserve the park for the day. Soccer will be over in September, thus the later date. Whaddya say y'all?

jim

So you recommend just setting a date and letting players make their schedule around that?  Hmmmm. Sounds practical.

BTW, at our next 2 club meetings, we can also hammer out a tentative 2003 schedule so that we can avoid this late scheduling stuff.

Time for Safari #3 at Crystal Lake is 12-NOON.  I will be carpooling from Bevier at 10am. I have room for 2 more people.

Al reports that the new layout of 18 at Crystal Lake is less than fabulous. Short, dirt tees, one incomplete basket.  We'll see how good we can rock a short RIGHTY course!

For the 4th Safari, Shawn told me it conflicts with Prairie Days at Lake Andrea, Pleasant Prairie. Shawn and others are hosting a disc golf demo there with three holes and possibly 30,000 people passing through.  It would be great to get as many of us there as possible, to answer questions, hand out flyers, etc.  Can we keep the August 3rd date for the 4th Safari and make it a GLOW round, say at 9pm?  Opinions wanted!

jim

Well, today was different.  Brett, Jason and myself were the total field at Crystal Lake. It was hot and the dry ground make for some sweet skipping. My putts and drives sucked. Jason ran into some bad-tree-luck. Brett played smart and took the cheese with a 2-under (Jim = par, Jason = +4).  The dirt tees were pretty fair, though some were rutty and uneven. Some shiney new baskets made up for that, though.

Although we had a ton of fun, we just kept wondering where the hell everyone else was.  :-)

jim

The Safari Series ended on a good note. Seven players and a tight round.  Al took first place and there is a 3-way tie for 2nd between Shawn, Brettm, and myself.

I propose the three of us play a round from the short tees at Parkside or 1-18 at Bevier to determine the winner.

Al played very well throughout and deserves this win, although I remember everyone made some great shots. I'm really happy this series didn't tank completely and I thank each person who showed up to play.  You guys make playing fun.  Even Al.  :-)

Jim,

I'm still wondering where everyone was. Look at the bright side. It didn't take very long entering scores!

I thought the Bevier Blast was on Aug. 31?  If not, then when is that event moved to?

What time is Safari Series #4 in Kenosha?  The website lists both 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

How about the 24/25th same time as Rumbletown Pros or Sept 8/9 week before finals at Yulga.  Had great time Sunday, wish I would not have missed that 6 footer on 18, too many people around the basket and I should have waited.  Oh well...Dreska's longs are almost in, I think 7 or 8 out of the 12 are in.  And to think we did 35 in 1 day........wow...ya..  I have never played crystal lake can someone send me directions, now that I have a new truck I'm ready for a road trip.

So are we talking about Safari or Blast?  I feel that conflicting with a big event is not a very good idea, that is the reason I gave you the dates.  Just please don't do the Safari at the same time as Northwoods, that is the last stop where they figure out the winners of bagtag.  Go ahead and do the Blast on that date.

sorry, not enough notice for me.  My better half is in a triathalon Sunday morning and she needs my support.  Oh well I quess I'll have to buy my own basket.  have some fun out at Cystal Lake.  As of the 4rth stop go ahead and have it on the date that you said and just stop by when your done to say hello.  Paul and I can handle the demo, we just need 1 more good basket to use for the 2 days.

My personal opinion is that we worry to much about the minority of the club when scheduling events.  Granted there are a ton of tourneys going on now, but to try to schedule around them would be insane.  We would never be able to complete a series like the Safari by the end of the summer.
