Hello,

I found this site while searching for Illinois on the PDGA site.

I'm going to be at the Argonne National Lab a few days next month and I was hoping to find a course nearby to play if I had some free time.  I'm from Mississippi, so I don't know anything about the area.

Could someone suggest a good course that is close(st) to Argonne?

Thanks,

-Kary

Well, I believe average temps are mid 30s to low 40s during the day and upper 20s and warmer during the night.

If it helps, we run leagues year round - be it during a deluge or blizzard...   :)

Yessir, Lombard and Naperville will be the closest courses (15-20 mins). Joliet isn't far either (30-45 mins).  If you have time, try 'em all!

ok, cool, I found it on my very detailed map of chicago. i did not find argonne but i found argonne national lab on the map. looks like a huge lab! Downers Grove is the closest course. DO NOT GO THERE! It is the worst 9 hole course i've ever been to. Are you Am, Adv, or Pro? A novice would love Downers Grove. Lombard might be a decent option. Lombard has 2 well kept courses. 9 hole course & 18 hole coures w/in 2 miles of each other. Both are flat. The 18 hole is much longer. Lockport is another option. I did not like it all that much. It was hard finding each hole & it was hard finding discs. If you're looking for a challenge, this is a tough course. West Park in Joliet is a great course. I really liked it. It is right off I80. Looks like you could jump on I55 to I80. You could also take 171 down there. Take about 30 minutes at the most. New Lenox is also down that way. I've never played there but I heard it is an ok course. Also, Shorewood is right off 55. That would be a few miles shorter than West Park but i've never played there. Jim loves Channahon & it's a little farther down I55. Hope this helps a little.

Naperville isn't that great. it is a 9 hole course. This is a bad course to play by yourself. Blind shots into a section of woods & brush. Can be difficult finding discs but this time or year, who knows.

Heh, I thought Argonne was the city also.  See if this link works:

http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py?Pyt=Tmap&addr=&city=Argonne&state=IL&csz=Argonne,+IL&slt=41.673679&sln=-87.982178&zip=&country=us&BFKey=&BFCat=&BFClient=&cs=7&name=&desc=&poititle=&poi=&ds=n&mag=5&newmag=6

It does seem to be somewhat close to Joliet, I'm not sure.  I guess I'd prefer one closer.  But if there is a really top notch course a little farther, I'll drive if I have the time.

Thanks,

Thank for the info!  Assuming I can find some free time, I think I'll go check out Madison Meadow Park.  I've located it on the map and should be able to find it wihout too much trouble.  If I have to, I'll get up extra early in the mornings so I can go play!

I started thinking though, NE Illinois in December!  Good God Man!  And I want to be outside throwing hard, frozen platic?  I don't know if I can handle it, being from MS and all.  I shore ain't yust t'that kinda wether.  What's it usually like mid-Dec around there? Ah well, I'll do my best.

Thanks again.
