2008 Discraft One Disc Ace Race

When: Saturday, October 25th - 11 AM
Where: Jericho Lake - Aurora, IL
How much: $25
What do I get?: 2 brand new prototype Discraft discs, a Discraft hat, mini, sticker and pencil

What's the format?
2 rounds of 18 holes.  Every hole is shortened to be anywhere from maybe as low as 125 feet to hopefully no more than 200 feet.  You get TWO SHOTS per hole using the discs that were provided, and all you're doing is making an ace run.  You don't hole out, just go on to the next hole.  After the two rounds are completed, you'll have made 4 attemps at an ace on every basket.  Hopefully we'll hear lots of CHING!!

What do I win?
The person with the most aces (with most metal as a tiebreaker, and then a ctp as a second tiebreaker) will win a prize pack containing $300 worth of Discraft merchandise.  Last year's winner won a discraft bag and towel along with 14 Elite-Z or ESP discs.  Cool!

How do I sign up?
Pre-registration will open up on the evening of October 7th at www.paperorplasticsports.com.  BONUS: Pre-register by 11:59pm Friday, October 10th, and you'll ALSO receive one of the 2007 Ace Race discs - the now PDGA-approved IMPACT.  You can also register in person the morning of the event.  Registration will be open from about 9:30 until 10:30.

Isn't there another tournament that day?
Yes, the Fox Valley Metro Disc Golf Club is running a day/night tournament also at Jericho Lake.  That event will begin at 2:00, so you can come out in the morning and stay all day and play in two very different, but very fun events!  Entry fees for both events ARE separate, and you do not have to play in both if you do not wish.

What time will this event wrap up?
The event should take about 2 to 2 1/2 hours to complete.  It moves pretty quick since each person on the card is only taking two shots and that's it.

Who can play?
Anybody can play!  PDGA membership not required!  Bring your spouse, your kids, your friends, everybody can enjoy this event!

Trash talking and much cheering for every ace is highly encouraged!

Ace Race Information

I received the player packs the other day, and a couple changes:
-They didn't send stickers and pencils, so unfortunately I will not have those available for this year.  You WILL receive a Super Color mini, two discs, and a hat (the hats are MUCH more colorful this year)
-The winning player's package currently consists of a Discraft bag and 10 discs (5 ESP and 5 Elite-Z).  No putters in there, so I may try to work something up to get another disc or two added to it.

Right now pre-registration is at 18 players - and I know a bunch more are coming out.  I purchased 80 player packs, so we can handle up to 80 players.  If for some reason we go over that I can let people pay and use last year's stuff, but I don't expect that.

The Ace Race disc is sweet!  I definitely saw a lot of hyzer routes and a lot of anny's that were coming back at the end, so it's for sure a lot more stable than last year's Impact.

44 players came on out today, and a WHOPPING 17 Aces were hit from the shortened tees!  The winner was Chris Iwanski, who hit 3 aces and 4 metals.  He won 11 Discraft discs, a Discraft bag, and a Discraft banner.

It certainly helped that everyone was allowed to throw both of their discs each round.  It allowed people to test out their disc more and get a better feel for it.

Jericho was a great place to hold an Ace Race, and I hope to see an even bigger one there next year!

very fun time. every event you have held has been fun. jericho lake is a great park for ace races.

i think nims park in rockfalls, il(across the river from sinnissippi park) would be good for an ace race, its 18 holes with the longest being 170ft none of the holes would need a shortened teepad. most holes are 60 to 130ft. just a thought for next year.

thanks scott

The Ace Race disc is sweet!
The 2008 Ace Race disc is likely to go into production for either the Memorial or Bowling Green, according to whomever I was talking to at Discraft last week.  I could say who, but I don't want to get any leakers in trouble.

It is a small diameter overstable mid-range.  If you throw it hard, it does not flip.  Like Scott said, soft annies flatten out or S back.  Some were comparing it to the Wasp for stability.  It looks like a domey Buzzz.
