On Tuesday, April 1, 2003, the Professional Disc Golf Association announced that the organization will disband before the end of the month.  Disc golf, or "Frisbee golf", is a quickly growing sport using flying discs and the rules of ball golf.  The sport has been governed by the ruling body of the PDGA since 1982.

Theo Pozzy, Commissioner, released a statement today saying that "because of the increasing financial burden" and "inability to service all [our] members fairly", the PDGA will be dissolving.

The 12-stop national tour, which draws hundreds of player per event, has been cancelled. A local disc golf activist and PDGA certified official, Jim Klem, of Waukegan, told the Chicago Daily News, "This must be an elaborate hoax!"  Thousands of disc golfers worldwide plan to protest the abandonment of the organization. Klem also came public by alerting that this is just an April Fools Day joke.
