Any idea on when the bulletin board will be installed?

Quick course update. On Sunday, the water is the creek was very high. The bridge on B was holding up nicely. It looks like the height is perfect. Water was right under the bridge and I don't think it will rise any higher than that. Water had filled in the low areas to the right of basket B. There was no water within 10 feet of the basket. The bridge by Hole C may need some work in the future. The side closest to basket C was fine. The low side towards #9 had some water on it. We probably need to find a way to raise that side. Other than that, the course was looking good.

The WPD wants to move the bridge by Hole C 20 feet north (closer to basket C). They think the ground is a little higher and will not be in as much jeopardy.

The bulletin board should be installed this week, next week tops. It may even be in there now; I will check after work. I have color maps ready to go as soon as I pick up the key.

Played the course this morning. The bridge between C & 9 is out, looks like the heavy rains from a week ago created a couple very large dams upstream from C's basket and when the dams overflowed the whole bridge got swept downstream about 15'. I didn't try moving the bridge so I don't know its salvagable......

Oh yeah, the flyers and info in the bulletin board look great!

That sucks about the bridge.

A temporary solution will be to walk to the bridge on hole B & then to #9.

Had we thought about it, we could have built the bridge that Adrian & Al built right between holes B & C using it for both holes. Hmm, wish I would have thought about that a few monthes ago.

We'll have to wait until the spring to fix that bridge. There is now way to get that bridge back into place withoug getting wet. It's a heavy SOB.

It might be easier to build a new one anyway. Jim, think the park district would build one? This is their slow time of year & the maybe able to whip one up in a few hours?

I will talk to Trigg right after the holidays.
We built 2 bridges on purpose for less confusion. The WPD wants to move the bridge between C and 9 anyway - they would like to see people cross over right in back of C's basket. I think that is a bad place because that's where many 2nd throws might go.
I love Adrian's bridges and would like to salvage them if possible.

Well, the bridge on B is very solid and doesn't need anything except maybe some shovelling and/or salt this winter.

The bridge on C, however, wasn't originally built long enough so an extension was put on. I think if we had a choice I'd pick build a new bridge that is long enough to span the creek and then some.

I would have to agree. I brought some of that wood from home for the initial bridge on hole C. It wasn't quite long enough. A new bridge that spans the bank will not move. I think the Bridge on Hole B will be there for years to come.

OK, I'll talk to Trigg. If tthey don't build a bridge, I'll set a date (early Feb?) and we can build one.

On the March Calendar page under Saturday, March 6th there is an entry for Bridge build/clean up day at Bevier. When you click on it, the message says Saturday, March 8th at 10 am. Typo, Jim?

Actually, typo Al?

I'll fix it.

Do the bridges have supports that reach all the way to the bottom of the creek?  If so, we could drive a couple metal poles or stakes deep into the creek bed on each side of the supports and fortify the bridges that way.  I never really inspected the bridges, so I'm not sure how they're built.

There is a support right in the middle of Bridge B. Adrian dug down to the clay but did not stake it in. That bridge is heavy & secured quite nice. I don't think we'll have a problem with it.

Yeah, the bridge for B is long enough to require a support in the middle. The span from C to hole 9 is 12-14' depending on where its positioned & shouldn't necessitate a middle support. If we wanted to add one it shouldn't be a problem with how I've got the new one designed...

Agreed.
A big part of the March 6th Work Day is clearing out a lot of the floating debris in that creek, near both bridges.  It will probably have to be an annual thang.

mirth

Along those lines.... WPD isn't willing to kick in any lumber at all, or did we even approach them about it?
