i was at bevier 2day and on hole 16 the tree fell over so it was fun playing that hole

mirth

It was only a matter of time. Is it blocking the fairway now?

Stan the Blue Man

yea the fairway is blocked u can throw it under the tree but it has to get cut or moved

A lady I work with is a volunteer with the Waukegan Park District and they had some sort of banquet last Thursday where volunteers were honored.

She told me there was a plaque presentation for a volunteer, where they specified that this person has done alot of work at the disc golf course at Bevier Park over the past several years, expanded the course to 18 holes, and helped organize tournaments.

It didn't take a genius to figure out this was Brett Comincioli.  Good work Brett and everybody else (espeically Adrian Sr.) who have apparently made a positive impression about disc golfers in Waukegan.  Bevier has definitely come a long way since I first played the course in 2003.

I assume you are talking about the tree covering 17's fairway.

Thank you for the hard work!

New photos of the course are on the to do list this spring.

For those of you who have not been out to Bevier lately Mike Clark has added directional arrows to all the baskets. They look sweet and players who have never played the course will be able to navigate the course easily.

Congrats Brett and all the volunteers who work on Bevier and other courses!
You deserve much recognition and appreciation.
I attended on behalf of the club in 2002 when we received the 2002 Community Service Award.
I'm looking at the plaque right now.

Played Bevier yesterday with a couple friends... Didn't have enough time to get in all 18, but 14 out of 18 is better than no holes.
The cottonwoods, especially around hole 6 were in full effect... It was kind of pretty looking from afar until you get into it looking for somebody's disc. Could hardly breathe without sucking in floaties.
Liked the new placement of hole 4 and the new tee for hole 9.

Back in the woods, hole 13 has a tree almost down & blocking the end of the trail by the tee. I'm sure the next good storm or two that comes rolling through will finish knocking it down.

Hope this post doesn't offend anyone who plays here and I haven't played here in a month but myself and friends who came with me were NOT impressed with the holes across the street!

The front 6(?) were nice easy holes to play and so were the ones in the woods but across the street, it was all about power!   No challenges except for maybe the wind and you have to have a strong wind.  Throughout the entire time we were playing, we kept asking each other what will happen to those holes if the park district decided to sell the land or develop it to just have soccer fields etc.  The mud and dirt was also really annoying to walk and play in though we did go there a day or so after it rained.

It was an alright course I guess but what we really need is a course that could be possibly close to a 5 star.  Adler was that back in the day but thats the past.  We need a course that is really enjoyable to play.  Something how Parkside has been setup

WOW....you've got to be kidding me...Mundeline?!?!?!?! Have you ever heard of such a thing as a disc golf course?

Dan Michler

Its true they are wide open and maybe not the most exciting holes on the course, but there aren't really alot of other options seeing as there are few trees.  If you don't like them, obviously you have the option of skipping them and heading straight from Hole 5 to Hole 12.  That being said, those holes across the street will work your game and do provide a challenge for those that want to play them.  From my experience, most courses around the country have atleast a few wide open holes.  So get used to it and develop some distance!

A few things.

Until Bevier expanded to 18, Fairfield Park in Round Lake was the only 18 hole course in Lake County. Now there are 3 with the addition of Antioch. IMO I still believe Bevier is the best course in Lake County and will teach you how to throw a wide variety of shots. Although the course was pieced together like a puzzle it's decent. It would cost too much money to just scrap the cement tee pads and totally redesign the course. Each year Bevier has gotten better and we'll continue to work on it.

I would disagree holes 6 thru 11 are all about power. Holes 7, 9, & 10 are all under 300ft.  Hole 11 is just over 600feet with an elevated tee pad. It has never been 2'd and is a par 4. Any player who can throw accurately 300ft can take a birdie 3. In May I saw a recreational girl throw pin high on hole 2 which is 302ft long. That leaves us holes 6 and 8. I'd agree hole 8 takes more power to get to but in these days of disc golf 350ft is not that far. Hole 6 is a true risk/reward hole at 390ft. It takes good power to get to that hole for a birdie opp. I see more 4's on that hole than 2's. Any smart player that doesn't have 400ft power is going to play a safe shot to the left, make a good upshot, and take a 3. There is a very wide scoring range on that hole.

I can tell you that land is not going to be devolped as it's owned by the park district. It's an old landfill and it's still settling so you will never see soccer fields on it. Waukegan Park District just spent millions of dollars turning a golf course into a soccer complex with tons of fields. They have even told me there is a possibility that the soccer field at Bevier could be used for the expansion of the disc golf course.

Of course we'd love a championship calibur course in the area. Find some land that isn't being used and we'll get to work on that.

I didn't say it was the best course out there.  I was talking about how it can help you improve JUST your putting and midrange game.

As with Bevier, In MY eyes its really lacking across the street but hey...  I thought this was the place to express our OPINIONS on what we thought of the courses we play.  No reason for you all to get bent out of shape for my disagreeing with the Waukegan group who play there

Im not in the Waukegan group who plays there, and I dont see why you would go to Mundeline to practice putts and your short game when there are plenty of other courses you could do it on. I appreciate your opinion though because mostly all I have heard about Mundeline is negative. AND in the first place it wasn't me who started the rumor about your favorite course is Mundeline. Try look at the post above the one of mine you quoted.

Bevier will be closed from noon today until 8am Sunday. The park district has an event going on thru the night.
