The Palatine course baskets were pulled last week. Kind of late for the normal November to March winter closure. ???

Ron Huebner

The course was reinstalled today. Curious that the park district would close the course for a month...

It looks like the park has been flagged to mark the location of the new 9 holes on the north side of Wood St. Does anyone know who is doing the course design?

I met with Keith Williams, Palatine Parks Superintendent, today to discuss the expansion of the Palatine DGC expansion from 9 to 18 holes. This project is budgeted and will be moving forward this year. The current plan is to have the official opening in July. Equipment bids will be going out this month. Local players and Boy Scouts will be supporting the Park District with some workdays in March / April. The new course layout will be finalized with a walkthrough later this month. Baskets could be installed in April, tee pads and signs in May/June. The course should be ready for a tournament in August. Some course enhancements will wait until 2014 when portions of the Palatine Trail are redone in the Margreth Reimer Reservoir Park. The proposed new layout is shown in the attached image.

Thanks for the update.  Glad to hear about the expansion.  It seemed like there was potential for a better course on that piece of property.

Any word on who is handling the design?

Ron Huebner

The Palatine course is ready for tee pads on the new 9 holes. The Park District has asked if anyone could recommend a concrete contractor for the tee pads. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Ron

Thanks Brett.

The course baskets were re-installed yesterday. The course is in very good shape with aggressive mowing last fall and the snow pack beating down the tall grass. The tee area on 16 is a little muddy but otherwise the course is dry.

The park district has reinstalled the baskets and the course is now open for 2015. If you haven't played the course since the expansion to 18 it is worth a look. Also, if you haven't played since the new expanded mowing patterns started last September you will like the expanded fairways and landing zones and will definitely spend less time looking for discs. On the negative side, a number of trees were removed (emerald ash bore) so holes #2 and #17 are pretty open now.

Thanks, Ron!  I  might get over there today.

Thanks for the tip, Ron.  I played there today.  Shot -2 and got a 3 on the long placement on Hole 9.  Could not find the long placement for 11.  Course played well and mud is not a concern.

Jim,
The long tee for hole 11 is from the top of the hill (where 15 tees from).

Ohhhhhhhh.  That explains it.  Thanks, Ron!
