If you don't get Sunkings monthly newsletter he has a lot of new stuff in stock this month. The one that is exciting me though is the Innova "1st Run" Pro Line Classic Roc. He's listing weights from 145 to 180 and the link is here. The price he has listed is 8.99 if ordered before they arrive in the warehouse on 5/28/04

So is anyone intrested in orderig any of these or anything else for that matter?

I have a question for all the Roc lovers.... I just recieved my first Roc (as i read everybody loves it) and i have a problem with it.  First off i throw mainly forehand.  Now this disc appears on innovas webpage to be overstable.  To me this disc has a ton on wobble when i throw it.  I throw my TeeBird or Valk fine... i don't get it

The disc is in glow plastic so it is really soft and kind of gummy.  I'm new to the game so i don't have 30 discs yet... and i wonder if it is my release, or my head getting in the way... any ideas, thanks...

While I'm not really qualified to diagnose other's problems yet (got too many of my own to fix ;) ), it does sound to me like off axis torque.  I won't go into an exhaustive description as the below threads cover it pretty well.  Also, I don't know that the Roc is really known as a forehand disc.  I throw it for forehand approaches occasionally, but that's about it.  It could be that the wider rim is messing up your release.  Hope this helps.

You should keep throwing it until you can smooth it out.  Because a Roc has a wider diameter and a narrower wing, it takes more to get it to spin, and that's why it is wobbling.  It will be good for your forehand form if you can smooth out the Roc.

In my experience, Rocs get better as they age :) Keep throwing it and you will learn how to make it work for you!

Quit work, play disc golf :)

I've heard almost all roc throwers say the same thing:

"I used to hate the roc.  Couldn't throw it at all.  Took me about a year to figure it out and get one beat in right, but now I realize it's the best disc on the market."

I've got a little different opinion.  I hate the roc (commence your barrage of negative comments).  Why should I have to take a long time to "figure out" a disc?  Why should I throw a disc that takes forever to break in and be useful?  For me, the buzzz works so much better.  The Star Cro is turning out to be a great disc as well.  The Cro should be OK for sidearm as well.

I agree that if you can get a smooth release and eliminate the flutter on the roc, you will most likely love it (I am definitely in the minority in my dislike of the roc).  But from what I've heard, it will take some adjusting to before you like it.

I remember people telling me the wonders of the Roc years ago back when I first started to actually try to improve. I tried it a few times, didn't like it, and also didn't want to take the time to practice it. Fast forward to this summer, about 4 or 5 years later, and I am now starting to throw the Roc. My release has improved since back then and I am able to throw the Roc a lot further than I could before. I am really amazed. This week I went out to Willow Stream a few times playing one disc with just a regular DX Roc that I bought a couple of weeks ago, and  I'm finally beginning to see why people love the disc. I can throw the Roc about 330-350ft now, and with much better accuracy than the drivers I threw before. I max out with the wraith at about 400ft so I was really surprised to see that a midrange would go that far. I will keep playing with it and see if I can hit 400.

So I guess my point is you don't have to throw it for a year to get used to it and to beat it in just right. Have one in your bag and throw it once in a while when you feel you need a little more distance than your putter could give you, and get a feel for it that way. You'll eventually figure it out.

Working Stiff

I did just that.  I bought a Roc shortly after I bought a bag and decided to get "serious" about disc golf.  I hated the Roc, but my bag was a Wall City Cube.  If you remember those, they had no framework and a soft bottom.  The only way for it to sit up was for it to be full of discs.  So the Roc went for a ride to keep the bag full.  Every now and then I'd pull it out and throw it, hate it and put it back.  About a year and a half after I bought it I threw it off the tee on a 270 ft hole and hit the pole.  At that moment I forgot why I hated the Roc.
