The Great Lakes Open was well run and they had very good payouts for ams.  The pro payouts were over the top, as always.

Wisconsin boy Chris Heeren lost a sudden death to Cam Todd and tied for second and third with Mike Randolph.

I played very well today and moved up from 16th to 10th in a field of about 80 players.  Felt good to get my game back.

Kelsey won twice in the jumbo toss, first on a women-only toss and second on a junior-only toss, both aces.  She donated the second prize to the next junior which I thought showed some class.  I did something I've never done before:  I aced a jumbo toss that I was eligible to throw on and won nothing.  The jumbo TD ruled that the other disc went in first so that dude won a basket and I got nothing.  Mine was not a late throw; it just went in second.  Only in Ann Arbor!

Terry Calhoun announced my appointment to the PDGA Board during the awards ceremony so I guess I can announce here to an equally limited audience.  Don't post about it on PDGA.com.  I don't know whether the runner-up has been informed.

This is the story of the day:

The GLO players guide always mentions the dangers of poison ivy, stinging nettle and Missasauga rattlesnakes.  Of these the third danger is the most theoretical.  You see one occasionally but they are not aggressive and they run from people most of the time.  Or slither anyway.

During the pro final nine I was standing in the rough and there was a stick under my foot.  The stick began to buzz like a cell phone on vibrate and then it snapped the heel on my shoe.  I moved my foot, looked down, and the "stick" slithered away.

A couple of holes later I was telling Tomcat about it and he had me show him the shoe.  I had not looked at the shoe but there in the foamy part of the heel there were two little fang marks and a small spot of moisture.  Tomcat took a picture but I don't know what will show up in the picture.

The perfect end to the perfect weekend.

I really don't know what they are thinking unless they really want to deal some tough issues I've raised and need someone on the board who is not too nice to raise them.  I'll initially be working on a Constitutional rewrite, and Oversight Director has full voting privileges so I'll be involved in pretty much everything that comes before the board.  I have to run for election immediately.
