The only thing they say is it's being built at Campton HIlls Park, just north of Campton Hill Rd. I was wondering if anyone here had some more info on the course itself and when it might be done. All St. Charles says is they are building a course.

Campton Hills Park slated for upgrades

The St. Charles Park Board has approved a master plan for improvements at Campton Hills Park.

A $400,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources will be used to assist the Park District in beginning implementation of the master plan.

There will be a new water-based playground, expected to open in summer 2005; a permanent dog park; basketball courts; expanded pedestrian hiking trails; new landscaping along Campton Hills and Peck roads; and a new 400-car parking lot and entry off Peck Road.

Soccer fields will be developed south of the existing fields.

To the north of Campton Hills Road, a disc golf course is planned. A shelter will be developed.

The aero field will be relocated south of Route 38 on property owned by St. Charles.

The long-range plan includes construction of an outdoor swimming pool, a community center and a nature center.

Call Denny Ryan at (630) 584-1885.

Saw that this park is now in the ground. I'm going to make a trip this weekend to check it out & will post a review here on Monday. Has anyone played this yet??

Cool, I might check that out. Is it in place where they originally said it was going to be? North of Campton Hill Rd? How many holes?

The park is in the ground but is the course in the park?  The website makes no mention of disc golf anywhere.

That's pretty much the way it's been for a year now. Their website says the same thing it did last year about it. And that is in some PDF newsletter that I have to google to find. I do have to go out to Geneva this weekend. So, maybe I'll pop over there and see what's up.

A guy at work, who lives out near there called the St. Charles Park District just now. 4:20pm. The lady he talked to said the course was not in the ground yet and all she knew was they have major plans but have not started work yet. So, unless I hear different, I probably won't go out there yet.

I played this course last weekend, 7/30. Short course completely in the woods, but elevation change on every hole. A few holes have you shooting upward w/an elevation change of +50'! I threw 4-5 on every hole and only felt like I needed to play it once. Check it out if you're in the area, but if you have to drive a distance I wouldn't recommend that as your only stop.

Chris

BTW, I meant to say I threw 4-5 discs on each hole, not scored 4-5 as it sounds. (JEEZ!) Just had to clarify that for my own sanity.
P.S. Check out playdg.com. Wish the whole PDGA directory were in that format...

The course just opened about a week ago - the holes are short, but the elevation changes and the technical shots required make it worth playing.  I was there yesterday and there were never less than 10 cars in the small parking lot - most cars carried a few teens.  this was a suprise since there seems to have been no announcement that this is open.  I live in St. Charles and have never had any luck getting info on this since the first announcement that they were going to use this land for the course.  I shot  well on the first outing (-5), but have no problem recomending this course.  The elevation changes required the park to build out staircases that probably cost more than any other part of the course.  The tee pads are wood frames with crushed lime stone - the baskets are Innova DiscCatchers - I am not ashamed to call this little course my home course.

Good to know I will check it out. It's also good to know the park district is so up on it's own affairs. Jeez.

I should be able to post some pics on this course after the weekend - I think that the pics will suprise people - this is a short course but well guarded by trees, and alot of uphill and downhill play - just walking the course is a workout.

I have a few pics of this course - here is the 6th tee - looking down to the basket

There was an article in Saturday's Daily Herald about this course. I'd link but it just asks for name and password. If you want to find it, do a search for "disc golf" on the daily herald website and click on the article, "Disc golf takes off in St. Charles" by Rachel Baruch.

It talks about the course a little bit and who helped them out. Not great, but getting the word out at least.

This course is a very short course. Of the 4 courses we played today, I enjoyed this course the most. There is some great elevation & they put some nice stairs on this course. It's a great place to bring out a few putters. It is a birdie or die course but they are not gimme birdies for the most part. You have to make quality shots to take birdes.

This is a great course to work on your short game and accurate approaches.  They did a really nice job of creating an interesting couse on this small patch of land.  I know that the distances are all very short and that will keep some people from checking it out, but IMO it is worth drive.

can't putt

St. Charles was closed for the winter but is now re-opened.  I was talking to a Park District guy there today and he said so many people were cutting through neighborhood yards to access the course that they either had to pull the baskets or re-open.  They decided on the latter.  He also said they were going to redo the tee boxes in the spring and add rubber mats like Mokena (they didn't want to mix concrete on site).  I suggested he visit the PDGA site for design guidelines and lengthen the tee boxes on #'s 1,5, and 8 (at least).  I also suggested that they dig in logs (old telephone poles) to terrace the hills on #7 & #8.  The Park District guy liked that idea, but we'll see...
