Just got off the phone with Ray Baker, the parks admin.
Here's the scoop:

The course is going in the ground @ the Township Center, corner of Almond Road & Washington.
Its located back in the woods on the West side of the property.
Course is currently 9 holes as laid out, however there is mucho room for expansion in the coming years provided the course is accepted well.
Tees are gravel for this year, they're considering the concrete upgrade for next year.
The tees and anchors are in the ground. Basket installation could be as early as THIS WEEKEND!

Colin Glancey & Parker Russel apparently have been working with the Parks Dept. in proposing and designing the course. Anybody know these people?

I didn't see Mirth's post until I got home tonight. I happened to call Mirth after I got done doing some work at Bevier. I was surprised about the information. I couldn't resist & headed straight to the course. The collars are in & they have bright orange snow fence around them so it was easy to see where the baskets were.

I started playing the course. I'm 99.9% sure I played the course right.

The tee pads suck really bad. I usually can throw off any type of surface but these were awful. It's big gravel & loose. Most of the tee pads weren't really aiming towards the basket either. It was awkward. 2 of the holes had two tee pads. A short & long.

I'm really excited that this course is going into the ground from one sense. It will bring more players into the sport in this area. It has several very long tough wooded holes. I used a putter to throw 3 of the wooded holes as well. The hole on the sled hill is fun throwing off of. 4 of the holes were really easy birdie holes.

I however from a selfish stand point am very disappointed as well. This park has plenty of room for an awesome 9 hole course & possibly 18 if routed right. Many areas were not utilized. There are plenty of 9 hole courses in the suburbs. We need an awesome championship calibur course in this area to push our games to the next level. I still can't get the saying from Uncle Joe out of my head. At the Ice Bowl there were several IL players there & he said "so & so from IL, the state of the 9-holer."

Discontinuum should create a design committee and address the the current climate in Lake County. It should consist of Lake county residents and use advice from outside sources. Keep the group small maybe three at most. Create examples for PD"s that do not have courses and address matters for the ones that do.. Then address bigger problems that the sport is faceing...

Warren Township is old news..."Disc Golf in a Box" Easy to assemble.

as for 18 Hole course in LAKE COUNTY it is closer than you think. I will not discuss this on the board however. If you want to talk Im easy to get a hold of.

I just hope it's a good one. We already have every type of recreational & intermediate type of course anyone needs. Just think, Fairfield is the premier 18 & Adler is the best 9-holer. Even playing Safari holes I can't even come close to practicing & getting ready for Peoria, Worlds, or Am Nationals if I was going.

Ill be at Fairfield Saturday and Sunday Morning. The ball is rolling and my time is limited. If you want 18 than someone with more time than myself will have to get involved.

I can make time for the right project. I'd like to see the land and make an evaluation. I'll talk to you on Saturday, Al.

Played the yet-to-be-installed course today on my way home from work.  I didn't think the tees were too bad, both in composure and direction towards the basket. Yeah, there are some that could have been positioned better but honestly I like the concept of pointing you towards the best route to the basket versus straight at the basket.

Baskets aren't in the ground yet, and the orange snow fence surrounding the anchors has been removed... It was hard to figure out where I was throwing, thats for sure! The walk in between the 3rd basket and 4th tee is begging for another hole, I'd say the walk alone is 350-400 feet! It would be sick for them to put a tee just over the walking path & put the basket on top of the big dirt pile towards #4's basket.

Get out there & you'll see what I mean. Maybe it could be a winter placement for one of the sled hill baskets...

All in all, it looks to be pretty fun. There are some pretty tight corridors you need to weave through. I drove a roc on 2/3 of the holes.

I played this course this afternoon.  I think it has real potential to be the best course in the northern suburbs.  There is room out there to make a good 18 holer out there if they wanted.  the terrain is good for golf because of all the trees.  As the course is now it will prolly be a fun 9 holer.  the tee pads are ridiculous.  they are composed of big frickin rocks instead of fine gravel or dirt.  I'd rather tee off from the side.  There is so much more room out there I think we could easily make some alternate tees and have a really challenging 9 holes.  I really have hope that this could become our premier course in the long run.

Turns out only basket #9 is in the ground for some bizarre reason.

Perhaps its to say 'hey, we got a disc golf course going in here!'

Lost my green Viking on my drive on hole 9. Looks like this:

Reward if returned... No idea where it went. It sure didn't look like it got caught up in the crap on the side of the sled hill, in fact I'd swear it made it around the corner. Thought I'd be parked & instead the disc vanished...

mach 5s?

where is the challenge?!?!

mirth

The challenge lies within the tree lined fairways... Think hole A or any of the wooded holes @ Parkside.

Well that sucks Mirth :(   If it doesnt get returned I can always dye it up again for you!!

mirth

Yeah, I was thinking that Joe... It could have very well been the first disc lost out there. :(
