Went to Warren yesterday and the course is in the process or a redesign. It looks like the objective is to get the holes away from the school, because hole 2 and hole 3 are gone(i'm going to miss hole 3 :'(). New hole one is by alt. 1's tee and plays towards old hole 1's tee, old hole 1 is now hole 2, hole 3 is old 2's tee and plays along the parking lot(it's not a bad hole), hole 4,5,6,7,8 are the same and hole 9 is changed it's a strait short roc shot with the basket on the ridge close to the pond. Overall I think it's a change for the worse >:(

I suppose if I had my own course I would be constantly working on it also. The big difference is that I would be constantly working on it to improve it. I get the feeling that every change that Warren Township has made has been a compromise to the design to accommodate some other consideration. Whether it be other park uses, adjacent uses, insurance/liability concerns, whatever it is. It just doesn't seem like they are making any changes to improve the course.

Found out today why the changes were made.

Old hole #2 & #3 were across the fence on school ground. Something happened between the school & the township so the school made them move the baskets. #9 was moved because someone was hit in the pavillion near the basket.

They added a hole prior to old hole #1 which is now #1. It's a pretty good hole. You can go thru the tunnel or try the hyzer. Both are challenging shots. The tee pad is lame. It's about 5 feet long.

Old hole #1 is now #2. I has a concrete tee finally.

#3 is a midrange shot. Has a few routes to take. If you play the fence and path OB it's a good hole.

#4 thru 8 is exactly the same.

#9 has a lame short tee like #1. The moved the basket farther to the right and on top of the hill.

I miss this course alot too. It really annoys me that Warren had to take out holes 2 and 3. I loved hole 2 because it was always possible to get an ace there. Hole 3 was enjoyable becuase it was very tough. With the changes to the Warren course I feel that the difficulty has dropped a level and I am dissappointed, but what can you do. It's too bad that the school had a problem with the disc golf course on their property. Maybe someone will care for us disc golfers someday. :crybaby2:

Disc golf is not really multi-use area friendly. By the same token neither is tennis. That's why it says "no skate boarding" on the tennis court door. However, disc golf is spread out over the entire park so other activities and people are always encroaching on the disc golf park. Wherever disc golf is in multi-use parks there will be compromises made. The alternative is to get disc golf into parks dedicated to the sport and to get pay to play courses put in.

I went to this course a couple weeks ago with floyd (my dog) and was very disappointed to see the huge "NO DOGS ALLOWED" signs posted along the way thru the parking lot.  When I got home and looked it up on pdga.com, i was very disappointed to see that there is no mention whatsoever of this animal hater rule!!!

With all of the recent changes previously mentioned at warren, i'm in no rush to get back out there.  But whomever Colin Glancy  (listed contact @ pdga.com) is should take care of this issue.  Although I have already sent him an e-mail, I have not received a response or seen any updates on the course directory.  It's hard enough to find a decent, usable course around here!!!  Is it really that hard to make those changes?

Are you joking? There are a lot of things that aren't listed on the course descriptions. I didn't realize that there were dog friendly indications on those pages. Certainly there's lots of other info missing also. They don't say which parks are smoking and which are not. Note that BG does not allow smoking in their parks which rules out both of them to you smokers out there if you can't wait until the round is over. The PDGA does not list which courses are clothing optional even though I know of at least one that is. Trust me...you do NOT want to be in the group behind me when I mark my disc on THAT course! Somethings you just have to take responsibility in finding out for yourself. As a dog owner I'd think you'd know that not every park is dog friendly and that you should call the PD before planning any outing with your dog to a park you've never been to.

jon, while i appreciate the fact that not every detail for every course is listed at pdga.com, it would not take much effort for the "course contact" to reply to my original inquiry to this issue, or to simply add a note to the course description.  After a few weeks went by without a response from Colin, I figured this would be the next best place to ask for an update.  If you and or Colin would like to decline my request, that's fine with me.  However, i can guarantee you that a simple update to the course directory would be more helpful than your suggestion to call every park district before visiting every course.

If you have played any area courses besides Waren, then you already know that the "no dogs allowed" rule is not the standard for Chicagoland.  I know this because I have played most of them.  If this is not the "proper" avenue to address this issue, please let me know.  I am certainly new to this discontinuum site and maybe i am just barking up the wrong tree.  While it is certainly not a life or death issue, I believe it would be helpful for others like myself who prefer to bring their dogs along for golf.  While I have only been playing disc golf for about 4 years, this is certainly the first time I have encountered a fellow golfer who was not helpful with a simple inquiry.

I think Jon was more so saying, what's good for one person may not be good for the next person. While most people will be cordial with such simple requests, then where does the requesting stop? It's like the good land for the courses around here, if they gave some of it to disc golfers, then the soccer clubs would want a piece too. If they updated the site to tell dog owners to stay out, then they have to alert the nudist colony as well. Obviously I'm stretching it a bit there, but you get my point.

Unfortunately the PDGA system of courses is a bit archaic and the correct contact info may not even be in place for the contact that you emailed.

Anybody can edit the course directory on pdga.com.  It gets filtered and edited before the information is posted. I updated several of the course descriptions- some were just horrible descriptions. The PDGA is pretty responsive when you ask them to change some things. I emailed  Brian Graham about a poorly written article about a tournament in Tulsa. I received a response the next day and the article was rewritten.

I updated the course description, lets see how long it takes. Jason

Sorry Jason C, maybe I was too acidic. Your post came off as kind of whiny and pissy. It seems a bit much to warn people of every possible situation that they might come upon on every course. When I owned a dog I did not expect to be able to take him every where that I wanted to go. I often checked ahead of time. If I were still a smoker I'd probably be keeping track of what parks allow smoking. I don't think I would expect the PDGA to warn me what parks I couldn't smoke at. I could be wrong.

jsun3thousand,

thanks for the update.  i was not aware that pdga.com allowed anyone to update course info.  i will certainly send my future requests for these updates directly thru their site.  maybe i provided a  little too much info on my first post in regards to this issue.  my main point was that if this was a problem for me, there are at least a handful of others who would also find this info to be useful for future fun on the courses.   -_-

I have a chance to go out to Warren tomorrow and was wondering if there is a recent map?   Also the Warren Township website says the course is closed.  How closed is it?   ???  Any info or tips would be great.  Thanks
