I'm a southsider who would love a course nearby.  I actually semi-scouted that area and thought it might make a nice disc golf course, but I had no idea about the steps required in setting it up.  A permanent course there of any kind would be awesome.  If you need help with setting things up I might be able to help out in some capacity.

Eric (screenname Eroc) is a Quest rep.  He can get you some.  Scott Pitner might also be able to get them.  I would PM them.

I'll try to contact Eric and see what the word is on the Quest baskets.  I'm sure that we'd be able to pick some up.

Good luck finding some baskets.

I went out there a couple of days ago to check out the area.  I didn't have a whole lot of time, but I only found a few holes.  I wasn't really sure where to start.  That might have made things easier, then I could move from hole to hole.  It's a great location though, good mix of open and wooded and there's a lot of space to work with.

Any chance the Forest Preserve would consider a permanent course there?

Played out here this morning with two discs while drinking my coffee.  Only parked a few holes but I wasn't really trying that hard.

The course plays pretty well I thought, fairly easy and mostly righty hyzer, but that's how you described it so no surprise there.

Some suggestions:
there seems to be a lot of walk to the next tee on most of the holes.  It seems like you could easily have a short and long tee on almost every hole just by backing up forty feet or so and moving left or right to give a different longer, shot.

The area in the northeast corner I think could be utilized a bit more.  Here's a rough sketch of what I envisioned (granted this was only my first time walking it).  After 8 you could have a hole that runs along the bushes to the group of trees with brush at the bottom.  Then a longish dogleg hole around the other group of tree/brush that ends in the cut out area of trees by the dry creek.  Then a hole that plays back to the center of that woodsy area.  Then a hole like the current 9 but further west that plays back out toward the open grass area and the tee for 10.  I like playing through big trees like that and I felt it was a pretty big area for only three holes.

There's a dry concrete basin near the basket area for 14 that I think would make a cool obstacle playing across from the west.  There's a tree out there that could make a good tee area. You've got an opening maybe 30-40 feet wide and OB in front.  You'd have to move the basket area for 14 to the right a bit, maybe back against the tree line, but I think it's a feature that would be cool to utilize.

There was only one other person out there.  It was the middle of the day on Wednesday, but I've never really seen anyone out there any time of day.

Nice job setting up a pretty good little course, thanks for putting in the work with paint and flags and such.

Only a few tees that I had trouble finding.  15, 16, 17, 18.

Now we gotta get some baskets and play it for real!

airspuds

just throwing an idea out there

is there any interest in having a free clinic/ intro to disc golf event at this location
on the Sat after Thanksgiving  11-24-07

i have access to a couple of baskets and would need several more
obviously ( any type would be ok )

the insurance requirement is
____________

In order to protect the Forest Preserve District of Cook County from liability arising out of the activities permitted as Special Use, the District has found it necessary to require that all individuals, groups and organizations, desiring to utilize District lands and/or facilities for any uses requiring a Special Use Permit must first obtain a certificate of insurance, verifying comprehensive general liability insurance. General liability coverage must be in effect as of the date of the event idemnifying the District in limits of not less that $1,000,000.00, combined single limit. Also, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County must be named as "Additional Insured" on the certificate.

Special Use Permit
--------------------------
so i guess all i would need is the club ok as the club has the necessary insurance

-----

here is the cook county website

http://www.fpdcc.com/tier3.php?content_id=51&file=picnic_permits
----------------

i would be glad to donate the cost of the permits up to a certain amount
i would like to present the idea of disc golf at this location or at rotating locations to teh FPDCC

P.S.  dont go out here as i m sure the paint and flags are gone without contacting me
